Lionfish come with red, maroon or brown stripes and specks on their body and flashy fins. Their beautiful long fins flowing gracefully in the water and dramatic colors are fascinating and inspiring. No doubt lionfish are one of popular aquarium fishes as well as painting subjects. As my final project, I want to create a captivating image, while enjoying exploration of the beauty and details of lionfish. For the underwater backdrop, I want to suggest a coral reef environment. A solid or simple blue underwater backdrop would be sufficient to show the beauty of lionfish, but it is too plain for my taste. I decide to paint underwater ripples along with a brain coral. The challenge is creating a background that doesn’t compete against the flamboyant and colorful lionfish, yet adds enough interest to the viewer’s eye.

1. I sketch out the Lionfish first on tracing paper. I have a few reference photos of lionfish, however none of them has a perfect form of their fins. After I select one which has a good body shape, I alter the imperfect fin shapes. Once I finalize the shapes of the fins, I draw the details of stripes on the body and fins. I also pay close attention to fin rays and specks. When I finish working on the lionfish, I draw the outline of the dome-shaped brain coral and a few lines across the
Blackfish was released on the 19th of July 2013 in New York. Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s award-winning documentary is about a captive killer whale that has taken the lives of several people. This documentary explores the different stories of Tilikum’s attacks and the reasons for why these accidents are occurring in the sea park industry.
Most people would not appreciate a stranger walking into their home unannounced, taking their food, and making themselves at home. That is exactly what lionfish are doing along the Florida coastline. Lionfish are an invasive species that need to be contained. The reefs that they consistently invade off of the coast of the Florida are not the lionfish's natural habitat. This invasive species takes shelter and resources out of the reef that other species need to survive, and they destroy the environment around them. Humans have complicated the balance of the ecosystem by introducing lionfish, and now they need to help rectify the situation.
My critter is fish. The name of the fish is called the Goldfish Saurus meaning it is half dinosaur and half guppy. This type of fish is a hunting fish, it mainly eats and kills tiny animals. It lives in the deep seas of the Pacific Oceans. The Goldfish Saurus hibernate for half a year, it likes to sleep in little burrows of seaweed. The Goldfish Saurus eats small fish and baby octopi and squids that is smaller than itself. It kills its prey by using the scaly fins on top of his back to directly jab its opponent. For self defence the Goldfish Saurus The tail of the Goldfish Saurus is very strong and its function is to move forward in upward swimming strokes. This kind of fish moves pretty quickly and catches its prey instantly. The Goldfish
The second piece, “Drawing of the ship Pass of Leny as a three masted square rigged sailing ship,” is an illustration created by dry media, this one using graphite pencils. It focuses on one ship, the Pass of Leny. The creator of the illustration is unknown, but the piece is held by the John Oxley Library.
In 1985 a fearsome predator was introduced to the northwest area of the Atlantic Ocean. This predator has spread rapidly for decades, destroying the habitats in which it invades. No one has been successful in keeping this predator under control. This invasion has been like no other for a marine species.
Steller sea lions (Eumetiopias jubatus) are the only member of Eumetiopias and are one of the biggest of the eared seals. Steller sea lions feed mainly on fish, and sometimes even various types of shellfish. Many Steller sea lions can be found along the coast of Western Alaska. Generally, Western Alaska has relatively warm summers, cold winters, and mild temperatures during the spring and fall, with the highest amounts of rainfall during the summertime. Steller sea lions have recently come under the scope of many researchers because of their sudden and significant decline of population in recent times. In some places such as the Aleutian Islands, which is an island chain found in the Western part of Alaska, the population of Steller sea lions
A venomous marine fish, known as the Lionfish, is native to tropical regions in the Indo-Pacific Ocean. In 1992 Hurricane Andrew tore through South Florida and was labeled the most destructive hurricane in the history of the United States. The category five storm is thought to have caused the accidental introduction of the species into FLorida. An aquarium was devastated by the winds, and released several Lionfish into Biscayne Bay. That, along with owners who became dissatisfied with the animals after realizing they’d eat other fish, and ignorantly set them free in the Atlantic, allowed the organisms to populate the waters very quickly.

“Into the Deep” by Stephanie Faleski is a naturalistic, oil painting showcased in a simple black frame, which measures roughly four feet in length and three feet in width. Its’ frame successfully manages to serve as an outline for the work without serving as a distraction. On either side of the painting there are two correspondingly painted ocean scenes. It depicts two sea turtles, each surrounded by a group of several medium sized fish around them. Each of the fish, except for the one directly behind the main turtle which is only half visible, have four fins in view, with their dorsal fins displaying a separation above their gills. Altogether, there are three separate types of fish, with two of them both displaying brown stripes, and all three of them are grey in color. The main thing that distinguishes the different types of fish are their body structures. The fish along the bottom of the ocean are smaller and oval in shape while the ones above the primary turtle are larger in size with tail fins that are arrow
Marine life is a mysterious and clouded mystery, although there are somethings we know, such as the damage that indigenous species, like the lionfish, can cause. Lionfish have affected marine life by feeding on various species, harmed tourism, and are almost impossible to remove from the affected oceans, this will have an absolutely chaotic effect on the surrounding land.
This history will lead kids and adults to navigate the waves of imagination, on an exciting adventure, which begins on the seabed and culminates with a fight for life between brave goldfish, captured by a fishing net, and his enemy – the terrible Mr. Cat.
Earth is home to many diverse and mysterious species. These species thrive within their own ecosystem by adapting to their living habitats and food source. Though when human actions introduce new species to a foreign area where that species never lived before, this is called an exotic species (Phelan, 2013, p.640). Some of these exotic species normally do not cause a threat to the ecosystem to which it is introduced, however some do and these are called invasive species. Invasive species tend to have no predators therefore they can multiply at vastly large numbers and outcompete the native species’ food source and living space. Furthermore these native species have no prior mechanisms to defend themselves from the new invasive species therefore they can fall prey to these new invaders (Phelan, 2013, p.640).
There are many sea creatures live in our ocean. One of the cool animals is the starfish. Starfish are found nearly all marine environments. A lot of the species of starfish include Arctic Cookie, Blood Star, Bat Star, Crested Star. These animals are one of the most noticeable and attractive creatures in the world. They are free-living organisms that have a unique flat body.
In the past weeks, we have had a few changes, first our second fish, and our second snail has died. Secondly, our plants are bent down a way. We have many more observations in our lab that It could be a few paragraphs long so, be warned.
In March 2003 Mark Richardson decided that he was going to take the ultimate plunge into commitment by proposing to his longtime girlfriend, Jeanette. Instead of getting down on one knee in a crowded room to profess his love, Richardson came up with a much more novel approach. After enjoying a meal at the Coral Reef restaurant in Disney’s Epcot Center, Richardson arranged for a professional scuba diver to appear inside the large fish tank holding a sign, among sharks and zebrafish alike, to pop the ultimate question: “Will you marry me?”
