The Outsiders Internal Conflict

The Outsiders message is about “Nothing Gold Can Stay.” It explains that nothing good can go on forever and nothing young can last forever. It tells you about how and why we should enjoy what we have and keep and cherish everything we have to its maximum limit. Why shouldn’t we cherish what we have? Why do we need more? Why can't we be equally treated with same amount of things such as money and houses? That is the real question. We have that to this very day. In The Outsiders, their lives are exactly like this. They have their awesome rich people lives and the poor have unhappy lives. Some of each gang just want to be normal, the same, or similar at least. But their money splits them up. The book, “The Outsiders”, has some similarities to the movie. For example, in both the movie and the novel Johnny died, also Johnny killed Bob in both the book and the film. For example, Johnny died in both the movie and the novel. “ ... The pillow seemed to sink a little, and Johnny died.” In the book Dally and Pony are at the hospital after the rumble and in the movie it’s the same way. Another example was when Johnny killed Bob. “” I killed him,” he said slowly. “ I killed that boy.” Bob the handsome Soc was lying there in the moonlight, doubled up and still.” In the movie and the book Johnny killed Bob when he attempted to murder Pony. Yes there are similarities, but there are also differences in the movie and the book, “The Outsiders”.

In the book the Outsiders, Ponyboy faces many conflicts, some had carried more significance than others. The author of this novel is S.E. Hinton. The main characters of this novel are Ponyboy Curtis, Sodapop Curtis, and Darrel Curtis (Darry). The Outsiders is novel about the wars between the two social classes formally known as Socs (The higher class/richer people) and the Greasers (The lower class/poorer blue collar workers.) This novel however is told from the perspective of the Greasers, more specifically a young boy at the bottom of a small gang or family of greasers. In the novel The Outsiders the character Ponyboy experience multiple conflicts with his family, his friends, and the law.

I believe the Outsiders are representation sped up by the greasers like Ponyboy, Dally, Soda, and the others. They are extracted from others and are people that don’t fit in with the crowd. The factor is they are poor and are unnoticed unless they make trouble. These are boys who don’t care they smoke and act like a family. Unlike the other gangs this has no leader and have individual leaders. Like for these examples to use Outsider it needs to be defined. Outsider or an Outsider is a man or woman or group whom doesn’t fit with the rest of the crowd and ends up sticking out like a ball in a haystack it is extractable but easier than the needle. There are many ways to describe this like how in a crowd of people the Socials could spot Ponyboy

As a young adult, it is difficult to grow up without parents and still be tough and brave. In addition, teens can be emotional and overreact at times. In the novel The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, a fourteen-year-old kid named Ponyboy Curtis feels different emotions that make him stand out from other Greasers, or “hoodlums”. Ponyboy, the youngest of all the Greasers, is a great example of a teen who feels isolated, brave, and emotional throughout the novel.

The quote “Conflict creates action, and action defines character” means how a simple conflict will lead to an action and depending on how the action is dealt with and is how people will “look” at the character. Conflict means a controversy between characters. The Outsiders is narrated by Ponyboy and his point of view, he is fourteen and apart of the Greasers. Darrel is 20, and Sodapop is 16, The three of them are brothers, they recently lost their parents in a car accident. In the beginning and in the end Ponyboy describes Paul Newman’s characteristics and how “perfect” Ponyboy thinks Paul Newman’s life is.

Have you ever thought about how life would be like without your family and friends? Throughout this novel, The Outsiders, By S.E. Hinton, three brother share many common conflicts between each other. Every brother and sister have been in fights or arguments, but after everything, you still love them. Darry, Soda, and Pony have changed dramatically throughout the novel.

Fracis Ford Coppola’s “The Outsiders” (1983) is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by E.Hinton published in 1967. There are many theories that can be found throughout the movie, victim precipitation theory, differential association theory, strain theory and labeling theory are the most prevalent. The story takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma and revolves around the story of a 14 year old Greaser named Ponyboy Curtis. The town is split into two conflicting adolescent groups, the Greasers and the Socs. The Greasers are of lower class standings with harsh upbringings, poor kids from the wrong side of town (north) and are considered delinquents. The Socs, are privileged kids living on the south side who have an easy life where everything

The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton was published in 1967. The Outsiders is about a fourteen year old named Ponyboy Curtis, the youngest member of a gang called the Greasers. The novel starts off with members of their rival gang, the Socs (short for socials), and they jump Ponyboy when he’s leaving a theater. Ponyboy’s brothers, Sodapop and Darry, and several other Greasers rescue Ponyboy and the Socs flee. The Socs are richer and they have a better impression than the Greasers. The main conflict in The Outsiders is man vs man and an example of this would be the rival gangs, the Greasers and the Socs. The two gangs don’t get along and members from both gangs fight each other like when Johnny and Bobby fought and Bobby ended up dying; Johnny was just defending himself.

The novel is based off adversity and how although it could have negative impacts it could still bring some positivity like finding the real image of actions, overcoming fears, and bringing a family together.

In light of the comparative study between Growing Up Asian in Australia and a novel of choice, I have chosen The Outsiders by S.E.Hinton as my novel. The Outsiders is a classic dramatic novel that was first published in 1967 and was set in Oklahoma, USA. The novel is a coming-of-age story that focus around a gang of young boys called the greasers, and is narrated by Ponyboy Curtis, the main protagonist. The major conflicts that appeared in the novel were man vs man, man vs society and man vs self( internal conflict).

In the novel The Outsiders by the author S.E Hinton, Johnny, Ponyboy, and Darry all have come across many conflicts. Ponyboy, Johnny,and Darry's parents died, and Darry was left to be in charge of the boys. Darry works all the time to be able to provide everything the boys need. Ponyboy faces many conflicts during the like, getting beat up by the Socs, when Ponyboy almost drowned, and when Darry slapped him after coming home late and making excuses.

“The Outsiders” identifies the 60’s, illustrating the violence between groups, often involving a group’s social class. For instance, the violent tensions between the Socs and Greasers lead to Bob’s death, Johnny’s death, as well as many injuries throughout both gangs. The book “The Outsiders” is written by S.E. Hinton and is portrayed through the eyes of a high school student in Tulsa, OK where S.E. Hinton grew up. Hinton began writing “The Outsiders” in 1965 at the age of 17 and the book was finally published in 1967 when she was 19. The difference in perspective upon the society and social class creates issues throughout “The Outsiders” and since the Socs and Greasers assume the problems will be solved with violence, they take action.

The feeling of being judged for the experiences an individual faces can be detrimental to the person 's personality by that these experiences result in you trying to become someone you are not so that you hide what society feels is your flaw, your race. Starr lives in two completely separate worlds, Garden Heights and the area surrounding Williamson High School. These two worlds hinders Starr’s ability to voice her opinions and thoughts about anything because in both of these areas there is this fear of overstepping boundaries. Overstepping boundaries in either area causes an individual to become threatened, for example, in Garden Heights, Starr silences herself whenever she is around gang members because she is frightened that the gang members will harm both her and her family for her opinions. Starr silences herself when she is at Williamson High School, especially since she is one out of the few African Americans that attends there, because her opinion is outnumbered by the majority of the population who are either ignorant about the issues that affects Starr’s race or cares less to even hear issues that occurs to others beside them.
