Many famous books have been transformed into Hollywood movies. However, since books are often containing much more information than a movie can handle, there is usually a lot left out in the movie version. The Outsiders is a famous American novel that has been transformed into a movie. However, there are many differences between the book and the movie. The book has more depth and character development in all of the characters, while the movie is missing these aspects and creates an inferior product when compared to the book. First of all, the movie seems to have less characters development compared to the book. Both of the works started with Ponyboy getting out of the movie and walking towards his home. In the book, Ponyboy starts to explain his family and gave a lot of descriptions about Darry and Sodapop. However, the movie skipped the whole description and changes the scene to Ponyboy getting jumped by the Socs. It made the readers get confused because the character started to appear …show more content…
Both of the works contained choice for the characters to make and they all choose their own choice. Teenager year is the time where it is hard to make decisions and both of the works represented the choices by using Ponyboy and Johnny. For example, after the murder, Ponyboy and Johnny both made the decision to get help from Dally and run away. It was their decisions to make; furthermore, they had the choice of running away or to tell the truth. In addition, setting was different compared to the book and the movie. In the book the setting took place in the southwest; despite that, the movie’s setting took a place at in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Also, it changed the conflict from the East Side versus the West side to the North side versus the South side. This change made the readers very
Ponyboy is in this state because he is devastated that his two friends, Johnny and Dally died. Johnny was a young nice kid who was the guinea pig of the group and Dally is this real tough boy that has been through a lot of hard times including prison. In the book, Ponyboy says “I had it. I stopped him. He was looking at me strangely. I had the knife. I killed Bob” (Hinton 165) and as the readers know, Ponyboy didn’t kill Bob. This shows that Ponyboy is really confused and is trying to think that Johnny isn’t dead. Then in the movie it didn’t show Ponyboy in this terrible mental state at all. Since the book mentioned Ponyboy in this state, the readers got to see that Ponyboy really cared about Johnny. Then with the movie the audience didn’t get to see how much Ponyboy cared about Johnny, so that could change their perspective on Ponyboy. Therefore this was a good thing that the book mentioned because it showed that Johnny was really important to Ponyboy and Ponyboy didn’t want to think that Johnny was
The novel and the movie share many similarities. The book and the novel share the same problems. A example johnny and pony run away since johnny killed bob.In both johnny gets injured badly and dies.
The novel has more detail than the movie because in the novel it showed more of the characters backstories it doesnt talk about Ponyboy’s school or about Dally’s past life was like before he moved and how Johnny got beat up by the Soc while the movie skipped all of that. Another is that in the novel you can hear the character’s thoughts you could hear what Ponyboy was thinking throughout the whole story and because the novel was in first person and the movie was in third person so you couldn't really hear what the character was thinking in the movie.
The movie is fairly similar to the book except for a few exceptions. One of the main things is that the movie is less detailed and is faster paced. Another thing is that pony never went to the hospital after the fire and didn't have a concussion. When Dallas was driving to the hospital with Pony and he got pulled over by the police who was on a motorcycle. While At the hospital Johnny’s mom comes to visit him but Pony and Dallas don't talk to her. When Dally leaves he goes and robs a store and the police are after him. Then when the police catch him he raises his unloaded handgun and the police shoot him. He gets shot once and does a few rolls stands up and gets shot more. The gang goes home after finding Dally and Ponyboy starts writing the “Outsiders”.
The change in characters in the two books are a very close similarity. Ponyboy says something when he is confronted by his enemies, the Socs, that proves Ponyboy
First of all, in chapter 1, Ponyboy is ambushed by Socs, in this part we get to know who the Socs are and what they do, this part wasn’t in the movie. Same with the part when Ponyboy introduces
The book and the movie of the Outsiders are two very different stories. The book has so much more detail then the movie. The movie is not the most detailed but it does get its point across. There are may similarities and also many differences between the two the book is by far more interesting and more detailed then the movie. I enjoyed the book a lot and the movies a lot but the movie was missing a lot.
Differences (stick with at least four)- Ponyboy has a good relationship with sodapop and gets along better with darry but still has a very good relationship with his brother. In the beginning of the book, Pony gets jumped by some Socs, but he doesn’t get cut with a knife. In the movie, they cut him. In the movie when ponyboy is talking to cherry he says how the sun on the south side and she says”good how bout the north.” In the book it's written west and east. Also in the movie johnny never got his first beating from the soc in the book he does. In the book it gave more detail and information in the movie it starts like in mid way of the book.
The Outsiders is a book that has been read by many people. Most of the people have enjoyed the book, but not the movie or vise versa. The Outsiders was very good and had a great story behind it. The reasons why the book is better than the movie are the book gives more detail, people can let their imagination go wild, and the movie leaves out key elements that the book has.
The book is better because it gives more excitement and emotion. The book just explains each of the events in great detail. I don’t know about other people, but for me the more information there is, the more I understand it. And in the movie of “The Outsiders”, it does not really say much about what’s going on. For instance, when Johnny dies, in the movie, Ponyboy goes home but it does not tell how long he had been out. In the book, Pony is walking home from the hospital and a man asked him if he wanted a ride (Hinton 151). Though others might think that the movie is better because it visualizes the events that are happening. But, even though it envisions what the book tells about does not mean that it is one hundred percent better.
According to the book, Pony wrote the book “the Outsiders” for his English project. The movie also has some events that the book doesn’t have just like the book has events that the movie doesn’t have.
The Outsiders was about the greasers and the Socs. The Socs always jump the greasers, one day Johnny fights back, he ends up killing Bob. Johnny and Ponyboy run away to a church and hide until Dally comes and gets them. They then see the church was burning, Ponyboy and Johnny run into it to save the kids inside. Johnny and Dally get injured, Ponyboy is okay. The greasers win the rumble, the Socs will stay out of the greasers territory, Johnny passes away from his injuries, Dally robs a store, the police shoot him, and he does not survive the shots. In the end Ponyboy decides to regather his life and he starts with writing his theme for his ELA class. The book The Outsiders book, the
To begin, the first difference I observed between the book and movie is that the movie has a different opening scene than the book. The movie starts out with Ponyboy writing in a composition notebook on a page titled “The Outsiders.” In the book the beginning scene is Pony boy walking
The book and the film were both simular, and yet different in many ways. An example would be, in the film, Ponyboy was walking to the drive-in and meeting Cherri and Marcia. Although in the book, Ponyboy began his journey by telling the readers about his experience about being jumped by the Socs and being threatened. The director probably had some options to pick from to leave out from the movie, and the director chosed this to leave out. Leaving out the part where Ponyboy was jumped was an effective move because without the experience Ponyboy was lost and helpless because he did not know what to do when he and Johnny got cornered in the park by Bob and other Socs.
The book is different from the movie because the book overall as more parts and better descriptions. In the beginning of the book it shows Pony coming out of the movie house and walking on the sidewalk as he gets jumped(Hinton). Also in the book when Pony and Johnny were searching for the church Pony talks to the farmer about where Jay Mountain is and lies to the farmer saying the church was the “army headquarters”(Hinton). In the book when Johnny is in the hospital it says that he is on his back. The last thing different in the book is in the end where Pony’s school teacher tells him to write a paper, and the movie ends with him writing the story.
