There are two different versions to “the outsiders” a book by S.E Hinton there are many differences between the book and the movie in my opinion the book is better because it shows more detail and will always go that extra mile to have every little detail, and the book is more realistic but the movie is really good even though it cuts many parts that the book still has In the movie and also the book ponyboy curtis is a fourteen year old boy that at first has a really rough life, because he is always fighting with his bigger brother Darry in the book,he has dark blackish - brown hair that is always greased back and it is long, but at the ending of the book he will have shorter blonde hair that’s a difference ponyboy in the movie it’s pretty much the …show more content…
The reason that they fight
Ponyboy Curtis in the fourteen-year-old boy that explains the story in both the book and the movie, and also the youngest of the greasers. Ponyboy is very intelligent compared to the rest of the gang he is most defenatly the smartest to them all. Because his parents have died in a car accident, Ponyboy lives with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop in both the book and movie. Darry repeatedly accuses Ponyboy of lacking common sense in the book more so then in the movie, but Ponyboy is a much brighter then his brother takes him for. Throughout the novel, Ponyboy struggles with class division, violence, innocence, and familial love but in the movie they dont focus on his school as much. He matures over the course of the book and the movie both.
On April 24, 1967, S.E. Hinton published the book The Outsiders. Then sixteen years later director Francis Ford Coppola’s movie version of The Outsiders was released on March 23, 1983. The book is about a young boy named Ponyboy who lives with his two older brothers because his parents were killed in a automobile accident. Ponyboy goes through a lot of tough times because he is a part of this group known as the Greasers. The Greasers are a group that are known for being from the poor side of town and the Socs are the rich kids on the other side of town. Throughout the entire book the two groups kept fighting and then something terrible happened that changed Ponyboy’s life forever. The movie and book have many differences
A comparison between both mediums for The Outsiders can be made by showing both of their advantages and disadvantages to show that one of them is better than the other.
Comparing the differences in the book of “ The outsiders” to the movie there are a few things that have been changed. There is a significant difference with one of the deaths. A few situations are also changed . Such as the rumble and how the boys enter the hospital to see one of their friends. The intro and ending of both the book and the movies are different. There are scenes that weren’t added to the movie. The author, S.E Hinton, and the director Francis Ford Coppola deviated which parts were not as valuable and chose to cut some unimportant scenes.
The book and the film were both simular, and yet different in many ways. An example would be, in the film, Ponyboy was walking to the drive-in and meeting Cherri and Marcia. Although in the book, Ponyboy began his journey by telling the readers about his experience about being jumped by the Socs and being threatened. The director probably had some options to pick from to leave out from the movie, and the director chosed this to leave out. Leaving out the part where Ponyboy was jumped was an effective move because without the experience Ponyboy was lost and helpless because he did not know what to do when he and Johnny got cornered in the park by Bob and other Socs.
The novel of The Outsiders is better than the movie. The novel gives more vivid details than the movie does. Even though the movie shows actual image, the novel lets you have your own image of what’s going on. The movie did not show the part where Ponyboy was getting jump. That is where most of the conflicts started. It also didn’t show the part where they were at the court, which is a really important part in The Outsiders. The feeling and tension are more intense in the novel than it is in the movie. Over all, the movie is not better than the novel.
In El Dorado California, once called Mud Springs, lived two twin sisters Elisa and Elizabeth. These 11 year olds lived with their grandmother Myra whom took care of them since they were 4 years of age after their parents passed away in a tragic car accident. They lived humbly in a small log cabin. Elisa and Elizabeth’s favorite pass time was to play in the forest; they loved acting and playing as magicians attempting to do magic tricks.
The “Outsiders” movie and novel are very different and similar. The book and the movie have some similarities. After really comparing the two there was a lot of differences.
Differences (stick with at least four)- Ponyboy has a good relationship with sodapop and gets along better with darry but still has a very good relationship with his brother. In the beginning of the book, Pony gets jumped by some Socs, but he doesn’t get cut with a knife. In the movie, they cut him. In the movie when ponyboy is talking to cherry he says how the sun on the south side and she says”good how bout the north.” In the book it's written west and east. Also in the movie johnny never got his first beating from the soc in the book he does. In the book it gave more detail and information in the movie it starts like in mid way of the book.
The book is better because it gives more excitement and emotion. The book just explains each of the events in great detail. I don’t know about other people, but for me the more information there is, the more I understand it. And in the movie of “The Outsiders”, it does not really say much about what’s going on. For instance, when Johnny dies, in the movie, Ponyboy goes home but it does not tell how long he had been out. In the book, Pony is walking home from the hospital and a man asked him if he wanted a ride (Hinton 151). Though others might think that the movie is better because it visualizes the events that are happening. But, even though it envisions what the book tells about does not mean that it is one hundred percent better.
In the book “The Outsiders” there is more detail and the plot seems to go at a slower pace than the movie. The greasers are from the west side of town while
The first chapter of S.E. Hinton’s book talks about Pony getting beat up by Socs. “There just isn’t a whole lot you can say while waiting to get mugged, so I kept my mouth shut… He pulled a knife out of his back pocket and flipped the blade open.” (Hinton 5) In the movie it mentions none of the above. (The Outsiders) In the movie The Outsiders, Sandy is never showed. (The Outsiders) “‘You in love with Sandy? What’s it like?’ ‘Hhhmmm.’ He sighed happily. ‘It’s real nice.’” (Hinton 18) Later on in the book it states, “‘You going to take Sandy to the party?’ I asked… ‘No she went to live with her grandma in Florida.’... ‘does he have to draw you a picture? It was either that or get married, and her parents almost hit the roof at the idea of her marryin’” (Hinton 111) It can be infered that Sandy got pregnant and she left. Lastly, the reason for Ponyboy writing was because of his English assignment. “And I decided I could tell people, beginning with my English teacher. I wondered for a long time how to start that theme, how to start writing about something that was important to me.” (Hinton 180) In the movie, it doesn’t have the concept of school. (The Outsiders) In conclusion, the movie from 1983 is a little bit different than the book.
The Outsiders is a book that has been read by many people. Most of the people have enjoyed the book, but not the movie or vise versa. The Outsiders was very good and had a great story behind it. The reasons why the book is better than the movie are the book gives more detail, people can let their imagination go wild, and the movie leaves out key elements that the book has.
The Outsiders is a story about Ponyboy and his friends, called greasers, and their everlasting conflict with the rich and dominant socs. The book and the movie compare and contrast in many ways. For example, the book and the movie are both in the form of first-person, Johnny also stays the same for the most part. Another example includes the main contrast between the book and the movie which is, that they skipped over quite a few key scenes from the book in the movie. During the course of this essay, we will be sharing and discussing the details in which the film and book compare and contrast.
I think that The Outsiders makes a better novel than a book. I think this because the book has more detail than the movie
