What is the overall evaluation/research strategy or design?
The article that was selected is, “Assessing the impact of a year-long faculty development program on faculty approaches to teaching”, by Light, Calkins, Luna, & Drane (2009). The design is action research.
Why is this type of strategy or design selected for this study?
This design was selected because action research is a process and the seven-step process was initiated in the development of the design selected. There was a clear focus that was identified along with a clear research question. Then data was collected and the action or steps to collect and analyze was identified during this process.
What is the problem statement or reason for inquiry?
The problem statement or reason for inquiry was the climate of the faculty accountability was jeopardized. It was dependent on research and accountability and they were rewarded via promotion and tenure. The improvement in the quality of teaching is a concern.
What is the purpose of the study and what are the guiding questions?
The purpose of the study is to access the impact of a year-long faculty development program (FDP) designed for pre-tenured faculty on participant approaches to teaching. The guiding questions are: (1) Are there changes which might be attributable to the FDP and less so on the extent or depth of change?
