The American Revolution led to the birth of our independence as a country and without it, life today, would be so much different. Many battles were fought during the fight for independence and the British were supposed to destroy the Continental Army and ruin the colonies hopes for independence. The British had the world's most powerful navy, they had 50,000 soldiers who were well trained and well equipped, they had German mercenaries called Hessians fighting for them, and they were the strongest empire in the world. There should have been no chance for the American people to win the war but yet, they ended up as free and independent colonies. The movie helped me understand who was really in the Colonial Militia and the things they had to do. When Gabriel and his father were looking for people to recruit to join the colonial militia there was a certain type of men they are looking for. In the tavern when Benjamin Martin says "All Hail King George" all the men in the bar stand up weapons in hand ready to take down Benjamin Martin. The men in the Colonial Militia are very patriotic men who are experienced with Guerilla Warfare tactics. They are not the best with weapons and that was where Major Jean Villeneuve steps in. He trains the militia men to be skilled with weapons and to become better at hand-to-hand combat. Additionally the militia men normally attacked British supply lines. In the movie we saw the militia men use Guerilla Warfare and they would hit the British supply lines and then they would run. They didn't go and attack Lord Cornwallis and his men but they went for smaller targets and won smaller battles that turned out very meaningful in the end. Additionally these patriot raiders were very passionate about their cause. First off, nearly all of the men came back to fight for the militia when they were given a one week break to tend to their families. Benjamin Martin told them that if they didn't come back they wouldn't be considered cowards, but nearly all of the men came back. Most men would stay home and protect their family after they've seen what the British were doing but not the militia. Secondly, when Benjamin Martin asked them to stand in the front of the line at the Battle of Cowpens they did. They knew that they had a high chance of getting injured or even worse killed, but yet they shot the two shot Martin had asked them
