The Period Is Pissed Essay “Today seven in ten Americans use social media to connect with one another, engage with news content, share information and entertain themselves.”(Pewresearchcenter) Social media is beneficial to our language and to our communication. Social media has improved our reading, stay connected with others around the world, and makes us literate. When reading text messages, facebook posts, tweets, blogs and much more each american could read up to 200 books. Social media helps us stay connected with people that live all over the world. For example, I have a foreign exchange family that lives in Copenhagen, Denmark and I am able to talk to them on a daily basis because of snapchat, instagram, and facebook. I am able to take pictures of what is happening over here in the USA and they send pictures of Copenhagen. We will probably not see each other for a long time so social media is able to keep us in touch. …show more content…

On the other hand, social media could be detrimental to our language and communication because young people have grown up fearing conversation and have not been able to have conversation. Although, young people are growing up fearing face to face conversation we need to use our knowledge of social media and use to our benefit to help us get better communicating skills.“16 year old boy relies on texting for everything.” (Turkle) The 16 year old boy is more concerned about what’s down on his phone rather than looking up on what is in front of him in real life. “I have 422 friends yet I lonely, I speak to all of them everyday yet none of the really know me.”
