The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a 2012 film based on a book by the same name. The film, released on September 21, 2012, pulled in $228,359 its opening weekend and $17,738,570 total. The screenplay for the film was written by the author of the book, which is very uncommon but makes for a more accurate movie. The film was primarily filmed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and stars Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, and Ezra Miller.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is about a boy, Charlie, who is battling multiple mental illnesses which cause him to distance himself from others. The story begins when Charlie is starting his first year of high school. Charlie struggles to find friends and eventually gets taken under the wings of two seniors who have personalities
The book and the film were both simular, and yet different in many ways. An example would be, in the film, Ponyboy was walking to the drive-in and meeting Cherri and Marcia. Although in the book, Ponyboy began his journey by telling the readers about his experience about being jumped by the Socs and being threatened. The director probably had some options to pick from to leave out from the movie, and the director chosed this to leave out. Leaving out the part where Ponyboy was jumped was an effective move because without the experience Ponyboy was lost and helpless because he did not know what to do when he and Johnny got cornered in the park by Bob and other Socs.
With the number of people suffering from depression rising at excessive rates due to the presence of social media it is important to look back and reflect on the depression that Stephen Chbosky created in Perks of Being a Wallflower. Charlie is a teenager about to enter high school and for many people that can cause anxiety and fear that can plunge them in the darkness many people know as depression. Throughout the book, Charlie’s depression progresses to a point where it has become a form of self harm and he needs serious medical attention.
I absolutely adored Stephen Chbosky's (Beauty and the Beast, Allegiant) ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ for its captivating and emotionally driven storyline that will intensely connect with all. The movie is filled with teen angst and struggles we can all relate to and discusses topics our society shuns from. This is captivating to an audience and makes them think about mental health and trauma in a way they haven’t before.
The book, and the movie, “the Outsiders” is about a conflict between greasers and socs. Up until the point where Johnny kills a soc, there are mostly only small fights and arguments between the two. The story “the Outsiders” takes place in the 1960’s, when there were two main lifestyles. Greasers and Socs. Greasers are known for greasing their hair. Socs are rich kids who have good clothes, drive mustangs, and always have an argument against the greasers. The main character in S. E. Hinton’s book “the Outsiders” is Ponyboy Curtis. He has two older brothers Darry and Soda. Pony is 14 years old and his best friend, Johnny, is 16 years old. S. E. Hinton wrote “the Outsiders” when she was 17 years old. Her book was published in 1967. The
I’m comparing the novel and the movie of the “Outsiders”. In my opinion the movie was better than the book. By reading the book and watching the movie they both seem similar in some ways. Therefore, after watching the movie they do have several differences.
The movie and novel both share similar qaulities in many way”s .The “Outsiders”movie and novel are both gruesome and sad .After finishing both movie and book they are actually somewhat similar .
Overall, the movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower tells the story of a teen with significant trauma and depression. It shows how his friends help him through tough times and give him a good high school experience. He finds himself and receives help from his friends, family, and doctors. It shows how mental illness is normal in teens and that it is okay to seek
Two mediums used to produce The Outsider are compared using the advantages and disadvantages of both the movie and the novel. First the movie is more visual and the novel requires you have to use your imagination. In the movie you can see what the characters look like and you can see what happens to them. For example Dally got shot by the cops, or Johnny rescuing the kids and getting injured.
The Outsiders was first published in 1967, it’s a book about Greasers which are a group of boys who some don’t have a good life at home, most of them don’t go to school, and they are a gang. Also, about the Socs who are rich kids that usually get what they want. They main characters are Ponyboy, Darry, Sodapop, tow-bit, Johnny, and Dally. Ponyboy, Darry, and Sodapop are all brothers that live alone because both of their parents died by a car crash. Two-bit is the oldest out of the gang and he is the wisecracker out of the group. Johnny always has a nervous look on his face because one time he got jumped by the Socs. Also, he always carries a switchblade with him ever since the Socs jumped him because he almost got beat to death. Dally was in
The film Almost Famous and the novel Perks of Being a Wallflower both show how William, Charlie, and their stories are very similar. These were the big similarities that I noticed the most.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a coming-of-age epistolary novel written by American novelist Stephen Chbosky set in the suburbs of Pittsburgh in the 1990's (Wikipedia, 2012). It follows the life of a teenage boy named Charlie.
In The Perks of being a Wallflower, the author uses interpersonal conflict to educate the reader that when times are rigid you can still get through the negativity. For example the story first introduces this type of conflict when Charlie explains the suicide of his best friend, Michael. He goes on to say, “But Dave with the awkward glasses told us that Michael killed hisself”, and “I don’t really remember much of what happened after that, except that my older brother came to Mr. Vaughn’s office in my middle school and told me to stop crying”. This tragic event sparks an interpersonal conflict with Charlie and his past. This indicates theme because even though this event hurt him, he moves on piece by piece, even though he misses him deeply. Although he experiences conflicts that happens now, the ones from the past still haunt him. Additionally, the death of his aunt is another internal conflict. When Aunt Helen died, he wanted to believe that she wasn’t killed. He says, “My brother and sister cried. But I

Paper Towns is definitely a teen fantasy movie, also based on the book by John Green. They both have important messages for teens, but when analysing, film does not focus on these morals, which is why there is a misunderstanding of what the film is really about. Perks of Being a Wallflower is also about teens facing real issues – peer pressure, fitting in, bullying - so it is a form of a more realistic representation (EXPLAIN) Because teen life is not all about what we see on movies, school does exist…. The themes are not the only thing that these two movies have in common, they both share scenes of partying and teenagers breaking the rules and engaging in illegal activities. It’s not entirely focused on the negative circumstances, but in attempt to represent teens and portray a message, clashes occur, so the whole purpose of the film and effect on the public is
Charlie, the main character of the novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky, is a wallflower. He’s a quiet person who blends in with the crowd and analyzes his surroundings. However, Charlie is trapped in his own mind. He’s confused and his head is filled with dark and happy thoughts, which evolve into intense feelings of distress. All Charlie needs is a friend and I want to be that friend for him. But to be a friend, I need to get to know him. Yet, the only way to get Charlie to open up is to create a comfortable and peaceful atmosphere for him. So, I want to take him for a drive along Skyline Boulevard in north California. This will not only create a lighter atmosphere between us, but also initiate a conversation. We’ll
