This quote was adapted from the novel “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”. The reason I chose this quote is because I realized how fast high school was flying by. I remeber the scared, timmid, little grade 1 girl on her first day of school. So nervous . Wondering if I would make any friends? Now look at me - I’m more confident than before, I have many friends and I’m all grown up, we are all grown up. Isn’t it frightning? Thinking about how close we are to the end of our schooling careers? Thinking about having to leave friends that we’ve known almost our whole lives? It frightens me!
"Feeling infinite" means to be in tune with the infinite, to achieve your own self-fulfillment. In other words, to feel superb in your own unique ways. A person who is self-fulfilled is someone who sees beyond the normal boundaries that most people accept as the norm.
High school is the period of time before adulthood

I spoke to my mom who gave me advice on how to approach this obsticle. She asked me whether I wanted to be a mother. It took me a while to answer being so young and all but finally I came to a conclusion. Of course I want to be a mother! I want to be able to look after a little child and have a personal relationship or personal ties to. She then told me that not everyone is cut out to be a mother and that many people don’t want children. So I then realised that this quote may have not been one hundred percent accurate.
There can be little doubt as to the significant role a mother has in the life of her children. She will either provide a strong foundation upon which her children can launch into their future or she will provide obstacles they must overcome. We often pay tribute to the virtue of motherhood, Mother’s Day but we may not understand the potential of a mother on her child. Perhaps it’s just too easy to take mothers for granted. We need to change the perception of motherhood and we need to value it
I have not figured out a way to summarize this, I really feel the whole quote is a foundation of my point on how moms today feel because of the ridiculous standards society has set forth.
Perks Of Being a Wall Flower 1)"I Don't know. This is my first date, So I don't know what to compare it to" -Charlie page 115 - Charlie was talking to Sam and he was getting advice for his first date because he didn't know what to expect. - This struck because Charlie is in high school and he never went on a date.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower also shows the importance of family and friends in a young adults’ life. The juxtaposition of Charlie when he is well connected with friends and when he is isolated shows how important his support system was. Charlie often goes back to the idea of being infinite. “Sam…Started laughing. Patrick started laughing.
No matter what actions or words a mother chooses, to a child his or her mother is on the highest pedestal. A mother is very important to a child because of the nourishing and love the child receives from his or her
In The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky there are many literary devices used to convey a point. Devices that are used are simile, allusion, imagery, tone, hyperbole, and metaphor. The author uses these to show that when you are alone and don’t really ever talk to people you start to see who you are. If you plan everything out in your life you will look like a fool because no one has complete control of their path and just try to stay on for the ride. When the author says “what it would be like on the last day of my senior year” the person doesn’t know what to expect and they are comparing what they think about themselves now to what they think they will be in the future..
Being a mother is a gift. Every women dreams of being a mother one day, and having that precious gift of a child. Women dream of being a mother one day even as a little girl. The instincts of doing motherly tasks starts during a woman’s childhood. Playing with dolls and playing house is just the beginning of those tasks.
The term “literary canon” refers to “a body of books, narratives and other texts considered to be the most important and influential of a particular time period or place.” What books fall into the canon has, in the past, been determined by older, rich, religious, white men; this heavily restricted what books were deemed a socially acceptable influence. Books from authors like Shakespeare and Jane Austen were widely accepted, while more modern readings were not. Today, there is a lot of debate about what sorts of books are appropriate for the literary canon. Generally books in the Young Adult Category are not seen as adequate for the canon, but “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky belongs in the literary canon, despite its
In the movie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the main character Charlie is on a journey with his mental health. There are many high and low points, but it is obvious that he has a serious mental illness. Throughout the movie, Charlie shows many symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which is defined as “A disorder that develops in some people who have experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event.” by the National Institute of Mental Health, and can be diagnosed through the DSM-IV method. Firstly, there needs to be signs of deviant behaviour. During the movie there are multiple occasions where Charlie blacks out and loses his memory. Whether it was drug, rage or anxiety included, this is still considered both deviant behaviour and a symptom of PTSD. Secondly, there needs to be signs of maladaptive behaviour. At the beginning of the movie, we see Charlie writing letters to his deceased best friend about his negative thoughts and feelings. While it is good to express these thoughts and feelings, it is not normal to articulate them to a dead person. He also experiences multiple flashbacks to the trauma he experienced from his Aunt Helen. Flashbacks are one the most common symptoms of PTSD, and can also develop other mental illnesses such as depression if not correctly treated. Lastly, there needs to be signs of personal distress, which can be seen when charlie expresses quilt about his Aunt Helen’s death before he has a blackout in the snow. When his feelings
Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of being a Wallflower is an explicit coming of age novel that gives teenagers a sense of relation with the 16 year old protagonist, Charlie. This book was a bestseller in the year 1999. This book definitely has a more mature content and is very straight to the point, it includes drug usage from parties, sex, and violence. Although this book has explicit content, definitely do not let that distract you from the story.
I believe that The Perks of Being a Wallflower should be a required reading, because it genuinely dives into the issues of mental health and all of its complexity, alongside complications that result for sexual abuse. I feel that this reading specifically should be required because I legitimately feel that it can change people's perceptions on those important issues. This is because I honestly never gave thought to those ideas and values. And If i were to be told that mental healthiness should be regard witht the same care and expenses as physical healthiness, before this reading, i would have objected.

Every kid who grows up in the suburbs loves to visit the big city. Stephen Chbosky’s novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, is based in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that is filled with the problems most suburbs face. The theory of Maternal Role Attainment was first introduced by Reva Rubin in the late 1960s. Rubin argued that the maternal role is a complex cognitive and social process that is reciprocal, learned, and interactive. She regards maternal identity as the end-point or culmination of MRA, which is characterized by the comfort of the woman’s role. The work of Rubin was mainly focused on the “traditional” mothers and hat she handled the MRA from the acceptance point of when women is pregnant to the one month postpartum.
