I have spent several days trying to start writing this assignment. I was afraid to start because I have never tried to write a story about myself. I promise to do the best. The perspectives of leadership are different from one to another. People have their own stores and their own concepts of leadership. We all have that sense of leadership. Sometimes the events create the leaders. Always there is a need of leaders in families, communities, or nations. We found ourselves influenced by others positively or negatively. My childhood was perfect. I was born in a big traditional Saudi family. My family is consisting of my parents and three sisters and six brothers. I am the sixth after one sister and five brothers. We all have lived under the same roof. We have different personalities. Our house was very active. My mother is a full time mother and she is a strong, loving and caring person. She did so much for us. My father has never attended any kind of schools, he just knows how to read and write, but for me he is better than thousands of those who graduated from great universities. Raising a big family is not an easy work especially in a society like ours. My father is now 72 years old. He always inspires me to be a good responsible and committed person. When I remembered his life and what he did for us and for our relatives I figure out that he is a great leader. My father worked very hard to meet our needs. He has a strong personality. He always said nothing is
Throughout this course, our textbook readings, the posting to threaded discussions, my responses to a classmate’s post, and reading various classmates’ responses helped further digest, comprehend, and synthesize the leadership content within Daft’s “The Leadership Experience” textbook. Our weekly lectures with various classmates’ interpretations and responses during the open discussion forums about the textbook themes brought a variety of unique viewpoints to the specific leadership topics. This reflection paper was an extension of this learning, and provided a deep introspection about leadership concepts; how did I, how am I, and how can I apply this knowledge in my workplace. This writing exercise uncovered new meaning and insights while both challenging and supporting certain personal views and ideas about leadership.
During this class we took many assessments and I learned a lot about myself and what kind of leader I want to be. On your leadership potential I learned my behaviors are the same as leader, these are people who are opened minded, share ideas and values with the company and open to change in the organization. For another assessment t rate your optimism test I found out I am someone who is optimistic and I agree with the statement that people want to follow a leader that is optimistic, rather than someone who is pessimistic. Another assessment I took was called the 5 saboteurs test. There was a scoring grid and what each category means like BP-(be perfect), HU-(hurry up), PO- (please others), TH-(try harder), and BS-(be strong) I found out the my highest score is PO-(please others) and some characteristics include being happy when other others are happy, cares about other people’s needs, can have a hard time saying no, doesn’t like to annoy other people in the work place. Body language and verbal language include facial expressions and saying sure I can do that for you. For another assessment I scored a six which means I right in the middle between high and low resistance to change. I agree with this statement because I think for certain situations my resistance to change will be high or low. After taking all these assessments. I learned that as a leader why it is important to learn about yourself. These assessments can help you improve as a leader figure out your weak spots
The belief of leadership is constantly changing, with many theories and frameworks available. Today’s organizations face ever-increasing change, which includes increased patient demands and work needs, which requires a more adaptive flexible leadership that is becoming increasingly important in the 21st century. Leadership theory and philosophy can be divided into several well-known styles. Within this paper, we will discuss the basis of autocratic, democratic, laissez faire, servant, charismatic, transformational, and situational styles of leadership within the nursing profession, then conclude the writer’s personal philosophies of leadership.
The current issues that are facing the Native Communities across United States is not the slot machines, movie sets or the football fields, as there many other problems facing the Native communities such as insidious, systemic, life or death problems; which will take years and many votes, marches to resolve the issue at hand. However, it will be given the attention to be recognized. The Federal government recognizes 567 tribes, 229 Alaskan Native villages and through this the Bureau of Indian Affairs is the federal agency that is in charge of relations with indigenous communities. Although each Tribal Nation is
How important it is to understand a leaders worldview is vital. When we are a leader or employee of a business a huge aspect of business ethics is loyalty, if we are in sync of the vision, policies, and model of the business then in order to succeed in our contractual duties is to believe in the direction of the business and display it. Loyalty is really forming us as an living billboard of what business we are associated with. How can we know this to be true let us take an interpersonal survey of how many conversations we have with family, friends, and others that the content of the dialog without fail is threaded with questions about the business your associated with and the direction it is going.
Situational approach is either applying supportive or directive behaviors to specific situations. Every situation is unique which is why different methods should be applied accordingly, depending on the dynamics of the situation. To determine what behaviors are needed, a leader must analyze his or her followers’ commitment and competence.
Enthusiasm, connections and a goal for positive change; these are the three most crucial ingredients in the making of a good, successful leader that makes people happy. Positive change is key since it is the end goal, but first must come enthusiasm. Commitment and dedication for change in the world steam from enthusiasm and create an open atmosphere where effective communication can take place. Connections are the building blocks of leadership and fuel to continue. They are the support, the network and the backbone behind successful leaders. Finally, Leadership is the ability a person has to create change and effectively move a group forward though either intellectual, social or physical change.

Throughout my life I have experienced a variety of things. Among those things I have dealt with is leadership. Leadership is having the ability to lead or guide others. Anyone can become a leader if they set their mind to doing it. A quote I always liked said “Leadership is unlocking people’s potential to become better” –Bill Bradley. This quote to me simply says that you have to enhance the lives of other if you want to be a great leader yourself. In my paper I would like to discuss a few leadership experiences I have been involved in while here at The University of Southern Mississippi.
I can honestly say that I am fortunate to feel like I have been training my whole life to be an extraordinary leader. Every experience has been a lesson and every lesson has paved the path to where I currently stand. I never really thought of it being something you are born with but something that needs to be nurtured and matured. I am not the same leader I was as a kid fresh out of high school running Little Caesar pizza in Willow Grove on summer breaks and whenever I would come home from Norfolk State. The role of leader has evolved as I am sure I have also. Today’s leader is multidimensional and has an integrative view of leadership that is based on building relationships through shared purposes and aspirations. As I think about the leader
Leadership is about the relationship and utilization of influence in various communication forms applied in a process that allows individuals and groups to work together to achieve collaborative goals (Ziegler & Degrosky, 2008). If influence is the driver of leadership, then power, is the engine. Having influence and power alone is insufficient to create leadership much like having a driver and a vehicle do not automatically create transportation. There are other components necessary to make the car move from one place to another. Power and influence utilized in an ethical and efficient manner gains willing compliance and commitment. Contemporary leadership theories based on efficiently reengineering older theories
Where do I even start. As I’m trying to type up this paper, I can’t seem to figure out how to describe my leadership. I mean I’m definitely one to say I’m more of a leader than I am a follower but in what sense? In order for me to fully explain this I need to tell you about my story first. About sixteen years ago I moved to America with my parents and older brother. My parents came to America to get away from the War that had just ended in my home country of Bosnia And Herzegovina. I know, I know. What does any of this have to do with leadership? , but just keep up with me. My father and mother started working only a couple weeks into our stay in the States, neither of them knew english but somehow managed to take care of
My leadership philosophy has been shaped by my personal life experiences, my mentors, my professors, my family, and especially my followers. In a publication by Dr. John Kline called “Kline on Leadership Theory”, Dr. Kline states that “servant leadership is way more than a way to lead; it is a way to live.” I whole heartedly believe that any person’s leadership theory speaks volumes about not only their leadership abilities, but their character. I once heard Bruce Johnston, president of JH Ranch California, when speaking on relationships say that “you fall in love with personality, but you marry character.” As a leader, it is my belief that my character is one of the key elements to my leadership philosophy. I believe that leadership is knowing that you are not in control of all of your circumstances, but knowing that there is a solution for all circumstances, and that as a servant leader, I have the ability to positively affect not only individuals, but also organizations. I believe the key attributes of a servant leader are a desire to see other’s succeed, a willingness to put other’s needs before their own, and an ability to motivate and encourage.
Leadership, as an intangible and conceptual figment, has no real methodology as to how to become a leader. There is no possession to own or geographical location to which, if one is present, they become suddenly available to the beckoning call of becoming a leader. Just as with currency, there is no intrinsic value in being a leader, except for the value that we ascribe to it, therefore deeming it a sought after trait. So how does one learn to become a leader? I would submit that we learn through stories. As far as I know, there has never been, and will likely never be a process to follow that “creates” leaders — but we do have the methods and disciplines and practices of others who have gone before us to guide us on our journey.
