Introduction There are many reasons that the Philippines would be a natural choice to expand call center operations, including access to their highly educated and eager workforce, the ease of business transition, including numerous favorable tax breaks, and the ever-increasing growth of the industry in the country. Therefore, now is the time to move our call center operations to the Philippines so that we may take advantage of these, and many more, benefits.

Many of the recent college graduates are choosing to stay in the Philippines to start their career instead of emigrating to other countries. Since the Philippines is considered an island nation that is only accessed by plane or boat, the country’s people are considered captives since emigrating to other countries could take more work than in land-locked countries. Also, as other industries are becoming more streamlined through the advancement of technology and the push for six sigma lean operations, more people are finding themselves looking for work in a different industry and are flocking to the call center industry as an industry to pursue as well. Local colleges and universities have taken notice that there is a large demand for call center agents, and have started or are considering implementation of training and education programs for students who would like to pursue careers with the call center industry. In addition, the Contact Federation of the Philippines (CFP), a trade industry for call centers, as well as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) of the Philippines are working towards opening and accrediting schools dedicated to training call center agents (Garrido). On any given day, many call center companies that already have operations set up in the Philippines have their lobbies full of applicants looking to join the team since supply of applicants is far outpacing the demand of positions
This would have been my sixth trip to the Philippines. However, this trip was different. Our detachment never had a trained Intelligence Sergeant, so our senior Communications Sergeant took it upon himself to prepare a cultural study and information brief for the detachment. I was so impressed; he broke down the demographics, the religious conflicts, and addressed political and economic considerations. The historical context of this topic deserves to analyzed with reference to both the primary and secondary readings assigned.
