This quote by Wayne Gerald Trotman describes how heartbreaking it is to contemplate on exactly how many people’s lives have been adversely impacted as a result of abuse. Child abuse, animal abuse, and sexual abuse are all major types of abuse; however, prescription drug abuse is a problem that is drastically skyrocketing in today’s society. While other addictions and abuses are equally significant, it is imperative that people put a stop to prescription drug abuse using two simple solutions: tighten the loophole for obtaining the medication and increasing communication between medical personnel. Prescription drug abuse has affected this society for a number of years. The National Institute on Drug Abuse provides several illustrations and outrageous statistics describing just how vast of a problem prescription drug abuse is in the United States. One statistical illustration states that “Fifty-two million people over the age of twelve have used prescription drugs non-medically in their lifetime” (Popping Pills: Prescription Drug Abuse in America).
