The Procrastination Proposal

Procrastination is a trait that “hides” in many of us. It is very easy to acquire but difficult to shake. Though it is not good to have, I have learned that with hard work you can overcome this ailment. Procrastination is never a good trait. It always seem to be something I couldn’t avoid; however this time I think it made my end product even better.

The topic I chose to do my project on is “The Dreaded P Word”, procrastination. This topic interests me the most out of the course because it is a huge problem in my life and I want this project to teach me not to be a procrastinator.

One of the biggest problems in modern day society is procrastination. Procrastination is delaying a task until the very last minute to try to avoid doing it. In the passage “Structured Procrastination,” the author describes how to harmlessly procrastinate. In the passage “A Stitch in Time,” the author describes how horrible procrastination is. These are the different takes on the habit.

The strategy I have used for reading and writing has been the SQ3R survey and skimming the information, questioning what needed for my lesson read it to myself recite it to myself and then review the information. However, my thinking too much on the subject have me second guessing, because the information I write I would like for it to be perfect. my struggle in this class has me running to the computer checking to see if grades posted or what errors need to be addressed but let me tell everyone I reached out to the tutoring service and they are awesome, they encouraged me and gave me confident to keep writing. While attending high school or college, you find there are other things in your life to do. When there are other things for you to attend, it can often make you not do what is most important. If you do not complete the important things first, then you are procrastinating. It is often easy to procrastinate. You may think you will find the time to get it done before the due date because you just do not feel like doing the project at the time. Tough it out and push through it because if you do not complete it, then you are more than likely going to run out of time and be doing the project at the last-minute. If you do not procrastinate then it allows you time to work on the project and it could allow you to make a better grade. Do not let procrastination, take over your life.

Procrastination is a tendency to postpone, put off, delay, reschedule, take a rain check on, put on ice, hold off, or to defer what is necessary to reach a particular goal.(Roget's 21st Century Thesaurus, Third Edition. Philip Lief Group 2009.) While attending College some students find it hard to juggle work, family, and friends. Leading most students down a dangerous path to procrastination; that negative impact affect students from their physical health, mental health, and social health.

Synopsis: Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed and stressed about assignments? Are you rushing to finish full paper the night before they are due? Do you have no self-control against your procrastination and fear it will soon get the better of you? How badly would you actually not have to worry when a paper is due the next day because you already did it. Procrastinators everywhere, trust me, I hear yeah, I have been there, but stop complaining and start helping yourself. No, I cannot do your assignment for you, but this book can surely help plan your time wisely to help stop your procrastination. I promise it will not take that long to read unless you procrastinate.

I am evenly split among both Quadrant 1 and 2 because I do check at was has to be done and prioritize my material in order of importance but there are also material that are urgent that has to be completed within the day such as homework. In order for me to spend more time in Quadrant 2 instead of Quadrant 1, the procrastinator, I will need to learn how to be more productive with my time and in managing my assignments more correspondingly. In doing so, I will be able to spend more time on Quadrant 2, the prioritizer, than in any other Quadrant such as the procrastinator, the yes-man(Quadrant 3), or the slacker(Quadrant 4).

Procrastination is the act or habit of putting tasks on hold. It is the unnecessary postponement of starting or finishing an undertaking, which eventually leads to distress (Solomon & Rothblum, 1984). The intentional delay of due tasks is very common among students and lately, it has become prevalent in college settings (Rabin, Fogel & Nutter-Upham, 2011).

I am procrastinating on getting my driving license. A lot has gotten in my way so I couldn’t even practice driving such as car issues and not having time to because of being a full time student and working four days a week. Another thing I am procrastinating at is saving up money for my future car and an apartment and bills in general. It is difficult saving up when I still have the expense of my mother’s funeral over my head. It is also difficult saving for my future when I have to help my father out with money.

Back in dark ages, when people used to have to tune into their shows once a week, it seemed like people would get a lot more done. If nothing was on that interested him or her, they would simply find something else to do such as yard work or reading a book. Now days, with options such as Hulu and Netflix, it is easy to fall into the trap of binge watching.

Many people believe that procrastination is derived completely from laziness but the culprit could be multiple things, including perfectionism. This can become a huge problem for perfectionists, especially perfectionist students. They most likely will overthink projects and put off getting started because they’re afraid they won’t be able to make them as perfect as they want them to be. Luckily this is a common issue among students and there are many different techniques to cope with it. Students can overcome procrastination due to perfectionism by setting S.M.A.R.T goals, creating detailed to-do lists, and by just getting started.

Procrastination; one of the biggest enemies of collage students. Have you ever told your self “I will do it tomorrow, I still have time left” and then find yourself working on the paper the night before its due, stressing yourself out and wishing you could have done it with time? This is problem that the vast majority of collage student face. What collages students are not aware yet is that procrastination causes lower grades, stress, self-esteem, and health problems. "In 2007, estimates of procrastination in college students ran as high as 75 percent, with 50 percent reporting tat they procrastinate consistently and consider it a problem"(Burka & Yuen).

Imagine living in the world of WALL-E, where everyone is riding on floating chairs everywhere he/she goes. Becoming obese and not being able to support your own weight anymore because of it. Well this is what the world today is going towards; everyone wants to “relax” and not be as active anymore. People have thrown the words laziness and relaxation into a blender together and mixed them up. However, there was a little too much laziness added into the recipe. Relaxation has a whole different meaning, compared to laziness, unfortunately people can’t see it. They are blinded by the thought “Oh I can just do it tomorrow” or “Well it’s not due till next week”. These thoughts throws people into traps that cause much more suffering than what

“Disinclined to activity or exertion: not energetic or vigorous,” is how Merriam-Webster defines “lazy”. To me, being lazy is simply lacking the motivation to accomplish duties that should be put in priority. Yet, at the same time, the many individual perspectives of psychology see laziness all in different lights.
