With the increase of diversity in the country, comes a wide variety of issues facing all sectors. In the criminal justice sector we see issues such as racial profiling, discrimination amongst others.

The criminal justice field has careers that provide an individual with great rewards and significant opportunities to an extent that the profession is considered as one with the bright spots in employment. Even though education in this field has had a checkered history and past, it probably has a bright future because of the increased quest for quality in criminal justice education. In the past few years, the criminal justice field has been characterized with an agenda that seeks to ensure quality while significantly extending the scope and dept of education in this profession. Consequently, few people would disagree with the fact that solid education has become an important facet of any career in this field just like other professions. However, the importance of college education and the extent of needed schooling are huge concerns for people considering criminal justice careers.

Many people studying in the field of Criminal Justice should choose their career carefully. There are many interesting careers that are arising as the years pass by. To become a successful employee you need to be able to fulfill many requirements, qualifications, and trainings.

Before the days when I had a confident mind about what I wanted to achieve in life in order to fulfill lifelong goals, committing to a career in service to criminal justice and law had always intrigued me as a way to earn a living. In high school there was an extracurricular Criminal Justice class that I remember having a profound impact on my life. The lessons of how the structure of the system worked as well as the importance of an honest and honorable way to earn a living played to a keen and personal interest I had in the field. At the time it was a very new post-9/11 world, and departments such as Homeland Security and other federal sectors of government were on my radar as possible outlets for a potential career. Criminal justice practitioners are necessary for a civilized society. Without those who form boundaries to our freedom, and the ones that reinforce those laws, our community would be chaos. Some of the main social issues our society faces are drug abuse, gang violence, child abuse, and terrorism. The criminal justice practitioners face these types of issues daily. These professionals must act on the morals and laws stated by society rather than their own opinions, sometimes facing hard decisions. The criminal justice field is always active and busy, dealing with countless amount of criminal activity throughout the country.

Law enforcement is a career that is both violent and rewarding in many capacities. Justice needs to be served in law enforcement and they have a responsibility to uphold the law and serve the people in the community. Law enforcement is crucial in the world today as a global realm as life continues to be more complex and law enforcement struggles to combat many aspects of crime. In order to combat these problems and have a positive future in the criminal justice system, everyone must work together on a bigger scale.

Roberts (2009 ), as jobs in the private sector pay higher wages, and develop higher-skill jobs, talent in traditional criminal justice settings will experience difficulty attracting personnel with such skills because police and corrections agencies will not be able to compete with competitive pay. What is more, another portion of the worker pool will be a large number of workers who are semiskilled, and unskilled. The criminal justice workplace may also be limited to more qualified workers because of displacement by reengineering. Given the smaller labor pool in the private sector, most highly qualified workers will seek employment. In the criminal justice workforce, entry level jobs will decline. Reengineering or a slowing of economic growth will stalls new job creation, and the criminal justice system will be forced to recruit from a labor pool with less qualifications. Some employees that are potential candidates to work in the criminal justice workplace for less pay are women, minorities, and immigrants.

Career development is a continuous process of handling proactively work and changes in life in order to move forward and reach the goals set for a better future. It involves learning new skills, moving up in the position within the organization or altogether moving to new organization or even starting up a new business. A career development plan is created to set goals and how to reach these goals using your talents and skills in the working world. A five year plan is ideal to start with, as five years are enough to reach bigger goals while working for and achieving smaller goals.

Criminal Justice is a wide and varied field, with jobs ranging from police officer to analyst to court reporter. Each occupation helps the community in some way, whether that be helping protect citizen from criminals, or analyzing the evidence that will help catch criminals. Despite the vast differences between jobs in the Criminal Justice field, each has one thing in common: Criminal Justice workers cannot do their jobs correctly without the necessary funding. The issue of funding affects some careers, like police officers, more than others, but lack of funding still poses a large threat to the entire field. This paper will examine five sources that discuss the lack of funding in the Criminal Justice field, as well as how various people and organizations are affected by the budget cuts and the limitations of these sources.

Did you know that 3.2% of the United States population is under some sort of control by the criminal justice system? This percentage consists of any offender from small crimes all the way to very large crimes such as murders and federal crimes. The field of criminal justice is very important to our everyday lives. The field is growing and needs more workers to support it.

The purpose of this professional development plan is to introduce my counselor identity, my plans for professional development, my clinical and academic training schedule and finally my plans for credentialing in the State of Maryland. I am currently seeking an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an anticipated graduation date of May, 2020. This professional development plan was written on September 27, 2017.

There are many opportunities for success in the criminal justice career field, ranging from computing in an office to directly being faced with the nation’s toughest criminals. However, the hard part is finding out which career would be best for you based on your interests, strengths, and weaknesses. If you look hard enough there is something that can interest almost everybody, even if you do not plan to pursue it in the long run as your career. As an academic adviser I will be assessing the criminal justice career I feel is in the student’s best interest as well as the career that the student has already chosen to pursue. I will advise myself as the student and explain why the careers I have chosen fit my personality and best interests so well.

I am a born leader. Even when I am not looking for leadership opportunities they always seem to fall into my lap. My life has been one that is based on service to others, so I regularly volunteer for committees and extend myself to help others. It is important to me to be the best teacher I can, I regularly attend professional development sessions and implement my new learning in the classroom. However, upon starting the Teacher Leadership Master’s program at Lamar University, I was just beginning my career as a teacher leader. I had not had many opportunities to show leadership outside of my grade-level team. During team planning meetings, I normally directed the discussions. My coworkers looked to me for guidance and interpretation of the curriculum. I regularly made suggestions about teaching strategies. Additionally, I was a member of various campus committees including the Campus Performance Objective Committee (CPOC) where worked together with campus administrators and community partners to develop the Campus Improvement Plan. However, I did not view these tasks as leadership opportunities.
