The vote on whether a natural gas pipeline should run through the state's federally protected Pinelands region in New Jersey, which includes more than a million acres of farms, forests and wetlands However, the Pinelands Commission expected to make a final determination Friday morning on the proposal that has set off a battle in the nation's most densely populated state. However, even though supporters say it will increase energy reliability, the environmentalists fear damage to the pristine Pinelands region could occur. However, the plan put on hold in 2014. But since then, Republican Gov. Chris Christie has replaced several Pinelands commissioners with supporters that agreed with the pipeline. However, with the new Republican in power in
To indroduce, "the government of Canada granted approval for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project to proceed with 157 conditions (NEB)." The project includes a lot of infomation for operating. "The project proposes to expand the existing Trans Mountain pipeline system between Edmonton, AB and Burnaby, BC ,and this project includes approximately 987 km of new pipeline ,and there is new and modified facilities such as pump stations and tanks and reactivate 193 km of existing pipeline (NEB)." Moreover, this project increases the capacity of shipping from 300,000 barrels per day to 980,000 barrels per day, which brings a lot of benefits to Canadian economy (NEB). Therefore, the approval of this project not only contains many economic benefits
After reading more and more about the debate on the Dakota Access pipeline, there is just so many benefits and loses that would happen if the pipeline continues. The negatives are mainly historical land that is precious to the Native Americans. There has been lots of fights and lots of riots going on in the area. What really needs to be done is have a sample taken over the population of the Native Americans and the public people. A sample is a number of individuals or cases drawn from a larger population. This was learned in chapter six. This would almost act like a jury in a court where there is a random sample of people chosen to make the decision. This decision could be on what happens with the pipeline. This could be a great outcome in
The Dakota Access Pipeline needs to be stopped. Recently, Bernie Sanders called upon the Obama administration to cease the Dakota Access Pipeline, if he can ask that of Obama, why can’t either of the presidential candidates. It’s appalling to find out that Clinton hasn’t said a word. This is big news in the country right now. Native Americans from all over the United States have never come together, not in a 100 years, like they have for the Dakota Access Pipeline protest. This pipeline sparked up enough for that to happen, so shouldn’t something be done.
Almost 95 million barrels of oil and fuel are produced each day in order to provide energy and fuel to people the world over. A major component of the oil industry is the transportation of oil through various means including oil pipelines. These pipelines are capable of transporting thousands of barrels of oil thousands of miles per day. In the United States one possible pipeline has caused a lot of controversy and discussion on the impact it will have on the United States. The difficulty in deciding if the Keystone XL Pipeline should be built is in whether the possibility of economic growth outweighs the possibility of environmental destruction. In order to make a decision, one must first look into the history of oil pipelines. It is crucial
American Indians are being treated in atrocious, illegal, and terrifying mater, while peacefully trying to protect water for all of us. On the Other side of this battle, sits Energy Transfer Partners who fund the Dakota Access Pipeline, the real outlaws. This is part of a bigger picture, Native American lands are under threat, and being stolen.. Now is the time that we must fight this if we don't our future is threatened. This is more than about water, but the bigger threat of climate change. This is a story of courage, culture, environmental protection, climate change, and the real world danger facing all of us.
There are many pros that come along with the building of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The pipeline will have a low cost, safe, and environmentally friendly effect if it gets put in (Energy Transfer, 2016). It also has many economic pros. It will create many new jobs and will also increase demand for those that manufacture steel pipes, pumps, and other materials that will be needed to build this pipeline (Energy Transfer, 2016). The pipeline will also have a great impact on different local services. Local economies will have a direct impact as the use of hotels, restaurants, and other services expand along the route. Local schools, roads, and emergency services be impacted positively as the pipeline will produce an estimated $55 million dollars annually (Energy Transfer, 2016). Nationally, the pipeline will have a great impact as well. The United States will become more energy independent with the addition of this Dakota Access pipeline. With the significant increase in the North Dakota Bakken, there needs to be transportation networks that are reliable
The controversy surrounding the Dakota Access Pipeline Project is becoming increasingly harder to ignore, as Hollywood stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Susan Sarandon, and Shailene Woodley have even shown their support for protest. Similar to the denied Keystone XL oil pipeline, this massive creation would only be seven miles shorter. The on-again off-again construction of the pipeline is due to an overwhelming amount of pros and cons, making it hard to determine what the final outcome will be.
One of the most controversial issues faced nowadays is the way we deal with the transport of oil. One of the proposed methods is The Keystone XL Pipeline. Although there are some pros associated with building the pipeline, the risk outweighs the benefits by far. Building the Keystone XL pipeline would negatively affect the environment, jeopardize the public health and is to no benefit to the American people.
“Standing Rock is part of an ongoing struggle against colonial violence.” The nonndigenous culture tends to think of Native Americans from a purely historical perspective because of their struggle for their rights and land ownership. As we know from our history books, dominant white society diminished Native Americans to the margins and continues to take their possessions out of their wants. The North Dakota Dakota Access Pipeline article by Ifeoma Oluo, an author of the Guardian, mentions that Native Americans fighting the battle for justice in a government stacked against them, as well as, mentioning African-Americans are in the same battle to withstand any more disrespect and brutally from the white dominance. Published on September 2016,
Jill Stein is against the TPP, but so are all the other presidential candidates except for Johnson. I believe that it is very important to be against pipelines and anything that can potentially pollute our country, and the world. Obviously, I do not agree with Johnson, but I am glad that the Trump and Clinton are both against it. But, Stein is the only candidate who is very pro green energy, which is something that is very important to me. Pipelines and fossil fuels are damaging our planet and Stein is the only candidate who is very, very pro clean energy.
Fracking, also known as hydraulic fracturing, is the process that extracts oil and natural gas from under the ground. Today, it is a controversial issue that requires a lot of attention. It is a very important topic that has both its positives and its negatives. As Fracking grows and expands, people should start to consider the advantages and disadvantages of fracking and what it really means.
There is a debate between people on the oil pipeline. The Keystone XL pipeline, which is suggested to be one of the biggest projects of oil transport, is the topic of this discussion. Some people think that the pipeline will provide many benefits while others believe that the disadvantages of the pipeline will outweigh its advantages. This paper will look in two fallacies that are found in the article named “Pipeline raises tough choices: Jobs vs. environment” by Bertha Coombs. These are false dichotomy found in the proponents’ argument, and slippery slope found in the opponents’ argument.
Climate change is a serious issue, or is it? Since the late 1990’s the temperature rose dramatically, but surprisingly since 1998 the average temperature only raised a little. (why climate change is taking a break) This is because of increase of Greenhouse gasses, and carbon. These are natural gasses, in many ways science proves Global Warming is a natural problem that overtime will figure itself out. The famous El Nino’s are a good example of this, in 1998 there was a very strong El Nino, and the temperature went back down. I and many scientist think Global Warming is natural and here's why.
The environment is a very important thing to take care of and can be very fragile. In the recent years humanity hasn’t been doing much to take care of the earth, and instead is destroying it in the name of progress. One of the harmful things that could really impact the environment is the North Dakota Pipeline. Some facts about the pipeline is that it is owned by Energy Transfer Partners who are the owners of Sunoco. Sunoco has had multiple onshore pipeline leaks and disasters that have devastated many environments. The planned pipeline is going to be 1,134 miles long and will cut through North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois, by doing that it crosses fifty counties in total. Pipelines in general aren’t really the most reliable things
Mother Nature gave us natural resources to patronize and natural gas is one of them. Small quantities of ethane, propane, butane and pentane are found in the natural gas composition but it is mostly made up of methane. The high volume of pipeline gas makes it difficult for it to be transported in its gaseous form. This is the reason why the oil industry is dominating because of how easy it can be transported. Pipelines are suitable for transporting pipeline natural gas but constructing the suitable infrastructure is very expensive and not technically feasible for global transportation.1 In addition, for you to be able to make it in the gas industry you need trading partners to buy your natural gas. Having said that, one can deduce that the only way to make a
