Here at The Tooth Booth Family Dental Clinic in Fraser, MI, we hope to one day count root canals as outdated practices because people of all walks of life are able to maintain proper dental care. However, due to many reasons, root canals are still a part of routine dental procedures, but what are they and why are they required?
What is a Root Canal?
Teeth are made up of three distinct layers:
Enamel - the hard outer layer
Dentine - a softer middle section
Pulp - the inner, living tissue located in the root canal
When dental decay allows bacteria into the pulp of a tooth, infection sets in, causing extreme pain which often results in the inability to eat without pain. A root canal removes this infected tissue from the tooth.
Why are Root
Root canals are needed when the dental pulp inside of a tooth becomes infected. This infection has a few different symptoms that should be addressed immediately, if noticed.
During your first appointment following your root canal, your dentist will inspect your tooth and make sure that it has healed properly. Then, your dentist will numb the area around your tooth. They are going to have to file down any rough spots on your tooth to prepare it for the crown. After that, your dentist is going to put a putty-like substance over your tooth. You will have to keep your mouth open while this substance dries. This process can take a while, and you may be a little sore from having your mouth worked on.
Bacteria: These are the root of the problem, and roots are what they target. A buildup of bacteria on your teeth can result in slow tooth decay.
Root canal therapy. Infection? Pain? We can eradicate decay and restore comfort with root canal therapy. If you are experiencing pain when chewing, you may need a root canal.
In a way, a root canal is a dental procedure similar to cutting off a limb in a zombie movie. The dentist removes the infection from the inside of the tooth to keep it from infecting the rest of your body and eventually killing you. However, in this instance, you actually get to keep your dead tooth.
As a dentist who has an established family practice most days I have a good day taking care of my patients. Unfortunately, I also have a few patients that make my day stressful and unenjoyable. On this particular day I am running a little behind due to a long root canal procedure where the patient showed up late.
It's important to take care of any problems that occur in your body, especially pertaining to dental health. If you have a root canal, and you let it go without treatment, inflammation will occur. The bone, the gums, and tissue will be affected if the root canal is left untreated, especially for a long period. It's bound to lead to death, although, death isn't that common. You can take antibiotics, but it's not as effective as it could be if you follow through with the root canal procedure. The longer you go without getting it done, the worse that it gets. If you get the procedure, the pain will cease.
If you are suffering from some of these symptoms, root canal treatment may be the best course of action to improve your oral health. Although we may refer you to

"St. Michael the Archangel" For my saint, I picked Saint Michael the Archangel. I picked St. Michael because Michael is my middle name. Saint Michael is a name meaning "He who is like God" in Hebrew. He is said to be placed over all the angels. He is the Patron Saint of soldiers, security guards, and sick people. Saint Michael is one of the seven archangels, him being one of the three mention in the Bible. He is the leader of the army of God during the Lucifer upraising. It is said by Pope Gregory the Great "Whenever some act of wondrous power must be performed, Michael is sent, so that his action and his name may make it clear that no one can do what God does by his superior power." Saint Michael is one of the principal angels. In Latin,
The main goal of endodontic treatment is to prevent or heal apical periodontitis. The cleaning and shaping procedures are adversely affected by the highly variable root canal anatomy. The presence of additional canals needs to be detected in to avoid incomplete instrumentation and preservation of bacteria and their toxins, which can compromise the outcome of the root canal treatment. Therefore, the knowledge of the internal anatomy of teeth is a prerequisite for successful endodontic therapy(1).
This literature critique reviews Brennan and Bakken’s article, “Nursing Needs Big Data and Big Data Needs Nursing” (Brennan & Bakken, 2015). Brennan is currently the National Program Director of Project Health Design involved in informatics and telehealth within the field of nursing. She has degrees in Nursing, Industrial Engineering and Health Systems Engineering. Bakken currently serves as Director of the Center for Evidence-based Practice in the Underserved. She has her master’s and doctoral degree in Nursing. Their combined experiences have placed them at a unique advantage in this area of “big data” within health care, making them the experts. The title is a true representation of the study, reviewing how data when interpreted can make a difference in patient care. This study utilized a qualitative approach, as stated within the article, by viewing the life experiences of the participants.
According to the research, those who are frequently exposed to dental x-rays have double or triple chances of developing meningioma, a type of tumor that is not malignant. This has created a lot of speculation as a lot of Americans have increased dental visits and treatments that involve dental x-rays. The frequent use of bitewal x-rays have been found to increase the risk between 1.4 to 1.9 times than the rest. Bitewal x-rays are carried out to detect the severity of tooth decay and any bone loss due to gum diseases. Panorex x-rays are found to create the most damage, and has more than five times chances of causing meningioma in the future. These x-rays are not supposed to be carried out on children under 10 years
Dental implants are prosthetic tooth roots, typically made of titanium, that are surgically placed into your gums and allowed to fuse to your existing jawbone structure. This creates a solid foundation for the replacement crown. After the implant has healed, a post is placed on top (if it isn’t already attached) and a replacement tooth is crafted. The replacement crown, beautifully crafted to look and feel like a natural tooth, is cemented directly
My major paper is going to be about my father. It is going to include all different types of things about him but it will probably be mostly about why i hate him so much. I chose this subject because it is something sensitive to me. Everyday it is a heart break to me because i do not fully understand why he does the things he does. It simply does not make sense how a father could be so terrible. I look around at everyone else who has a dad or at least grew up with a dad and it aggravates me because i never got the chance with that.
