The Pros And Cons Of Abortion

There are two main political parties you can choose from in the United States, The Democrats and the Republicans. There are also third parties you can choose from. People can choose to be part of any party. We are divided by the left and right side on the political spectrum. The right are more conservative and the left are more liberal. These two political parties show philosophical differences through their viewpoints on major topics. With so many differences between the parties, finding topics or issues upon which constituents agree on can be difficult.

An issue that bothers me is abortions. While abortions are not frequently discussed in today’s news, due to the fact that they were made legal in 1973, by the Roe vs Wade case, abortions are still considered a ‘hot topic’ in today’s politics. This is a topic that gets me ‘fired up’, because my mother got pregnant with my oldest brother at a young age. When she was pregnant with him, many people encouraged her to get an abortion, so that she could pursue a future. Due to her pregnancy, my mother had to put a pause on her education, in order to raise my brother. Despite everything people told her, my mother still managed to pursue her education and career goals. Today, she is the mother of six children and is a registered nurse.

This quote, by Martin Luther King Jr, represents how Martin Luther King Jr really feels about abortions, and how abortions relate back to the idea of slavery. As abortions are spreading all across the world many people have wondered if there are any positives to abortions? If there are not any positives to abortion then people may wonder, what are the negatives to abortions, and how do other people feel about abortions.

Abortion is a very controversial topic in today’s society. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks (Abortion). Many people have issues regarding this topic, while some support the idea. This paper will be covering the pros and cons, people’s attitudes, and how a researcher could possible change your perspective on the topic at hand.

I hold the belief that a woman should have the right to have an abortion if that is what she would like. This means I identify as a pro-choice supporter. If the government ever decide to illegalize abortion, it would mean that women do not 'own' their body and instead the lawmakers do. As soon as a third party, such as lawmakers, are given the power to decide that abortions are wrong and they decide to ban abortions, women are no longer in control of their own bodies which makes them powerless.

Abortion is one of the most controversial topics and many argue that it's wrong, but I disagree, I am a strong supporter of abortions. An abortion is when a woman deliberately terminates a pregnancy, there are many medical methods used to perform an abortion. The techniques used for abortion have changed drastically over time and many cultures developed their own forms of abortions. Originally abortions were unregulated and many women performed abortions on themselves at home, which were very unsafe and many at home abortions resulted in injury or death. The two main methods of abortion as of right now are surgical and medical abortion, these are much safer than previous methods and rarely inflict any harm onto the woman. The surgical method is performed using a vacuum like device to empty the uterus of its content. The medical abortion can only be used early in a pregnancy and requires a woman to take a prescribed pill for the first seven weeks of her pregnancy.

Of course when making any decision it is important to critically think out the whole situation. It is very important to not make irrational decisions. In order to help make the best decision the pros and cons should be taken into consideration. The pros of having an abortion could be but not limited to, being unable to financially afford a child. There may be health risk for the woman so an abortion may save a life. This ruling declared abortion a right protected by the federal government as dictated by the Supremacy clause in Article VI of the United States Constitution. The Supreme Court's assertion of unlimited access to abortion as a federal concern violates states’ rights as it was wrongfully justified. Evidence offered by the fourteenth amendment, various court cases pertaining to abortion, and several philosophical arguments from renowned professors support the shift of the decision from federal to state power. Medical necessity is the only exception in which an individual should be granted unrestricted access to abortion.

Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is immoral and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” 1 These pro-life believers do not support the idea of induced abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staffs. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions1. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice.

The debate on whether or not to make abortion legal has been an ongoing conflict since Roe v Wade. On January 22,1973, The Supreme Court made abortion legal in the United States.This decision held that a woman, with her doctor, could request an abortion without legal restriction. State restrictions could be applied in later trimesters. There are usually two sides in this debate. Those who believe in pro life and the others that believe in pro choice. Although another question arises, is there a blurred line between being pro life and being pro choice. Are you able to be both or is the line straight and clear. I myself would have to be in the percentage of people that stay in the blurred lines not teetering on both sides but proudly standing on both.

Abortion is a dreadful matter that some women must face in their lifetime for multiple reasons. There is a great deal of controversy over this topic some say abortion is the killing of the unborn child known as the pro-life supporters, they do not agree with abortion being legal. The other side of this argument is the pro-choice supporters who do not believe that abortion is killing the unborn child, they believe it is the woman’s choice to do what she wants with her body and her future. It is the right of the woman to decide what to do when it comes to that situation because it is her body and her life. Pew research found out that sixty-three percent of Americans wouldn't like to see the court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision, as to twenty-nine percent would like to see the Roe v. Wade case overturned.

Thousands of babies are born every day but more shockingly thousands of babies die every day. Everyday thousands of people choose to have an abortion everyday thinking that there is no better option, but adoption is a very logical, possible, and safer. There are many reason for this such as the mother’s physical health, mental health, and more importantly it means a life for a child. Many people who argue pro-choice argue the mental distress it being denied an abortion causes but forget to look at the mental distress so many barren women go through every day. It is truly disheartening to see the number of babies that miss out on a wonderful life because their mothers didn’t get all the facts.

More than 86 million women in the United States have unplanned pregnancies each year, and over half of those unborn children are aborted; how many unborn lives will it take before America puts an end to abortion? While there are many people who defend the right for women to choose, the research on when life begins, harm to the mother, and Supreme Court rulings on death row inmates defend the unborn child against an unconstitutional death.

Ever heard of a person say they’re “pro-life”or “pro-choice” but not what they mean when they say that phrase. When a person implies that they’re pro-life, they are against abortions and believe they shouldn’t be legal, and when a person announces that they are pro-choice they believe it’s a woman’s right to abortion. Consequently, late term abortions is a procedure that occurs between 14-24 weeks of pregnancy, depending on the week the mother is the procedure involved a process called dilation and evacuation after the 20 weeks doctors inject a vaccine allowing stillborn birth. Today abortion/late term abortion is a controversial topic in society, people are either for or against them, the government should outlaw these types of abortion because there’s other options to look into, statics show a mother's life is rarely endangered, and viability.
