Have you ever wondered why abortion is such a debated topic. How some politicians use it as a political ploy and others are completely against abortion? Also, if the supreme court says abortion is legal, why have many states added so many restrictions and rules to it. If abortion is legal, why does the government try so hard to make women feel like it isn’t. When did it become ok for the government tell women what and what not to do with our bodies and made our decisions for us? These new abortion restrictions makes it even harder for women to have an abortions, then it already is.
Having an abortion is already an incredibly emotional thing to go though. Imagine sitting in a waiting room, shaking and nausea. You can’t afford it, you're too young, you were raped, or your parents would kill you if they found out. These are just some of the reasons why women get an abortion. You finally convince yourself having an abortion is the right thing to do. Then, the clinic starts naming off all of these restrictions. You have to go to counseling, you need to wait, or we need to call your parents. These new requirements add even more stress to women and make it more difficult for abortion clinics.
Missouri already has some of the strictest abortion laws in the country; Now, even more requirements have been added. Some of these new requirements are having a three day waiting period before abortion procedure, hold a conference before procedure, and all tissue removed from the abortion must be sent to a pathologist for examination. Some requirements that are already in place is mandated counseling to persuade the woman not to have an abortion, unnecessary regulations on abortion facilities, and funding limitations.
Republicans are pro-life (anti-abortion) and are adding more and more restrictions. Missouri’s governor, Eric Greitens (republican) issued a statement calling these new restrictions a “pro-life victory.” He also said "Today is a great victory for pregnancy care centers that help women and children all over the state. I'm proud that many of Missouri's lawmakers stood strong to protect the lives of the innocent unborn and women's health."
