The articles used in this paper explain whether one officer or two officers patrolling is effective in maintaining safety among officers. One officer and two officer patrol cars has been a never-ending debated issue. The reason why it has been highly debated is because some agencies view two officers in a patrol car as less effective or no difference at all than one patrol officer. According to Frank Day (1955), agencies with one officer in a patrol vehicle have reported having signs of success. (p.) The advantages for one officer in a patrol car is that there is less distractions, and they respond faster to calls. In a two officer per car method officers can be distracted by conversations with their
However, I did find that the LAPD uses Lenco BearCats (“LAPD Police Car Web Site”). According to AcronymFinder.com BearCat stands for Ballistic Engineered Armored Response Counter Attack Truck. These Armored vehicles can cost around $230,000 depending on the upgrades purchased (Schlueb). Not only does the equipment they use carry a heavy monetary cost, but it also carries a heavy social cost. According to an article written by Cheryl K. Chumley “More than four of 10 respondents said they weren’t confident police could use military-grade equipment and weapons appropriately…”
Having had the opportunity to see both sides of the argument play out in the City of Memphis and as a member of the Memphis Police Department. I have become an advocate for requiring entry-level police officers to have at the very minimum an associate degree or the equivalent college credits. The college requirement can only be avoided with military experience. However, my position is not that more education makes you a better police officer or less education makes you a lousy officer. I believe that there should be a “happy medium” when it comes to police work. A good officer will be empathic, fair and in tune with the needs of the community and its members. Requiring a level of education for your entry-level officers speaks volumes about your agency and their dedication to professionalism. The benefits of having a college educated officer have shown to make a difference in the way they do their jobs. An educated police officer is less likely to utilize force when interacting with his co-workers or civilians. A department with educated officers also has shown to see a reduction in misconduct and disciplinary issues(Gómez-Mejía et al., 2016). Some years back the Memphis Police Department had relaxed their
The greatest financial challenges to a health care provider are its revenue cycle and receivable management. The revenue cycle is the process that includes all the administrative as well as the clinical functions that are essential and important for capturing, managing, and collecting the patient service revenue whereas the receivable management deals with the planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the receivables. Therefore when all these are taken into account with proper measures they can serve well in making the health care provider sustainable in financial decision. Well if we look at the health care organization we can concatenate many of these who are actually available for the discussion of their alternative to the

From the night watch in Boston, to the present day policing, law enforcement has behind in the world of technology. As time rolled through the political era, professional era, and community-oriented era, police patrols would use the rapidly advancing technology in their favor. "Those were desperate times for policemen in a hostile country with unpaved streets and uneven sidewalks, sometimes miles from the police station, with little prospects of assistance in case of need.... It took nerve to be a policeman in those days," this was reported by Chief Francis O 'Neill of the Chicago Police Department in 1903. With only having a printing press and a multiple-shot revolver over a hundred years ago, the advancement in technology today has helped improve the policing methods in patrol quite significantly. However, technology would eventually out-run the police.
communities in order to achieve goals and avoid conflicts. Racism, discrimination, and miscommunication have been the cause of countless police/immigrant community confrontations, and that in return diminishes the chances of recruiting Asian-American candidates towards a career in law enforcement.
Police departments are too militarized because they are using vehicles that are regularly used by military or higher grade departments. The News Cazette says, The county will have a new vehicle available soon — the Champaign County sheriff's office this year received a demilitarized Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle that it is currently modifying for use in police activities. The county acquired the vehicle, free of charge, through the state's Law Enforcement Support Office, which distributes surplus military property to state police agencies. Police departments are too militarized because they are using vehicles that
Wendy Williams was born on July 18, 1944 in New Jersey. She spent most of her life there, but would eventually rise to fame when she moved to New York to Pursue a career in broadcasting. She is now best known as a radio and television personality. As of now, she is the host for the Wendy Williams show, along with being a designer, a host, and a comedian, among other things. When watching her, it is very clear that out of all the Big Five Personality traits, she is more of an extrovert than anything else.
Lack of training and policing standards are closely linked to the myriad problems bedeviling police work, especially in small departments (Brodeur, 2010). All over the country, police departments report cases of officers being caught in uncompromising and unprofessional situations, resulting in disciplinary actions such as redeployment, suspension or sacking. These cases of unprofessionalism have led to questions being asked about policing, occasioned by recurring series of questionable and controversial encounters with police officers (Brodeur, 2010). The consequence of such encounters is increasing public distrust in law enforcement agencies.
Over the last several years, most police departments have been facing numerous financial challenges. The main reason is law enforcement agencies are expected to do more with less and the stagnant economy. The combination of these factors has been placing pressure on many departments to begin imposing budget cuts. Evidence of this can be seen with a survey that was conducted by the University of North Carolina. They found that 67% of police departments made some kind of budget cuts for 2011. The most severe reductions were occurring in large police departments such as Los Angeles, Atlanta and Detroit. (Delfem, 2011, pp. 199 - 205) This is illustrating one of the most pressing issues affecting a wide variety of police departments across the country. To fully understand what is happening requires: examining the situation, how they are able to interact with other agencies (i.e. state / federal) and recommending the way this relationship can be improved. Together, these elements will offer specific insights about how police departments can effectively address this problem.
The militarization of the police force would mean supplying them with military grade equipment and having them use military tactics ("Police Militarization"). The United States should not militarize the police force because it is not a necessary expense for a country with a lot of debt, it increases the chance of police violence, a topic that has been in the media a lot recently, and it would lessen citizen's trust in the police.
Many people know of the police officers of today’s world and that it is their job to enforce the laws set by their government, but not many people know the history of your typical everyday United States police officer or how they came about. The idea for neither your everyday police officer nor his or her department they work for or how a police department operates, originated in the United States. Over the years though America has made changes and adapted its system over the years to make it more suitable for its countries beliefs and practices.
Chaucer's Pardoner is unique within the group travelling to Canterbury. While the Parson, the Wife of Bath, the Clerk, and others would love to sway the group toward their respective opinions and views, the Pardoner intends to swindle the group out of its money. His sermons are based on sound theology, but they are rendered hollow by his complete lack of integrity in applying them to his own life. He is a hypocrite - his root intention is to accrue money. Curiously, the Pardoner is openly honest about the nature of his operations.
Automobiles and two-way radios dramatically affected police patrol in the twentieth century. As more and more of the public got into cars, so did the police. Motorized police patrol was deemed necessary to pursue motorized criminals and to enforce traffic laws. Motorized patrol also came to be seen as more efficient than foot patrol, since a larger area could be watched by police in cars. Then, the addition of the two-way radio made it possible for personnel at police headquarters to contact patrol officers in the field and dispatch them to respond to citizen requests for assistance. The impact of these two basic technologies should not be underestimated. Before cars and radios, police response to emergencies and other crises was more like the fire department model—from the station. Officers on patrol were out on the streets watching, but they were not in continuous communication with headquarters.
