Introduction Among the most popular educational technologies used in the nation’s schools today are computer and communication technologies that assist students with conducting research as well as provide them with the ability to access interactive learning programs and other online educational tools. Unfortunately, those technologies also offer students the opportunity to communicate with each other in harmful ways including sending insulting and/or threatening messages designed to bully others. As much as school officials are responsible for ensuring that students use computer and communication technologies appropriately, parents have the greatest responsibility in preventing their children from cyberbullying others both inside and outside of the school environment.

Counterargument A frequent argument submitted for who should be responsible for addressing cyberbullying among students is that schools, their administrators, principals and teachers should play the greater role in ensuring that students do not participate in this harmful behavior. Arguments like this are supported by the fact that students are given increasing access to educational technologies that support cyberbullying during the school day including access to communication technology like the Internet, which students can use to use to exploit online messaging in a variety of forms in order to target victims for cyberbullying (Qing, 2010).
