How much do you know about the businesses that you see every day? The deals that they make behind closed doors, the loopholes they find and the people they bribe to let them do anything they want. Given how much we consume their products, we should know what we are getting out of it. They are required to print the nutrition facts on their products, but they use alternate names for ingredients so they average consume does not know fully what they are getting. According to Chris Hogan, advocate for the international bottled water association, has gone on record to say that recycling has doubled in the past decade. Nearly 40% of all plastic bottles are being recycled, but that is still not enough to make change in the world. Millions of tons of plastic waste reaches landfills, roadsides and the ocean. In the pacific ocean alone, there is a garbage patch that is twice the size of france. It goes hundreds of feet below the ocean surface. He also says that, because of the rise of the bottled water, obesity has dropped because of the ease of access to clean drinking water. Drinking bottled water will replace 50,000 calories and reduce the chance of developing type two diabetes. Since diabetes and obesity are the biggest health issue in the U.S, being able to decrease the number of diabetic and obese people is a tremendous achievement. Many of the bottled water corporations are owned by Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Nestle. Coca-Cola and Pepsi still have their signature drinks that make most of their revenue. As long as their soft drinks are popular, their bottled water will not be as popular because of the lack of advertisement and where their products are placed in
