Two years ago, in 2013, the government was shut down due to disagreement between the two parties in Congress. There may be another closure. On September 9 at 7 A.M., The Washington Post published an article stating the possibility of government shutdown on October 1, 2015. Congress is way behind on passing spending bills that would allow funding for the government; the problem lies within the disagreement about spending and where cuts should be made: it also stems from both parties trying to push their ideology into the agenda. All the disagreement prolongs the process for these bills to be passed. The deadline for the bills to be passed is September 30. If the government doesn’t receive the funding, then the government will be shutdown. When …show more content…
A government shutdown would ultimately bring everything to a standstill. When to political parties on a specific topic, it takes twice as long to come to terms since they cannot agree on what to cut and how much. The politics dictate what gets passed and when., and it is crucial to ensure the bill for government spending is passed on time. Government funding isn’t something that should be taken lightly. Without a bill passed to fund the government, all the agencies will not be able to function and support the general public. The primary people whose job are at stake are the federal workers, therefore leaving those people unemployed. Another pitfall of government shutdown is that each day that the government is inoperable the national deficit worsens. It costs money to shut down a government. The FDA and the EPA which help regulates businesses that portect the people from harm in their food as well as envrioemtn, can be put on hold as well, allowing no food inspections which can affect public health.Loans from the goernemnt will be on hold which stiffles small buiness needing a kick start to their buisinesses. Probably the biggest issue a shutdown would pose would be the toll on the pride americans take in their country. We are the xample fri democracy, and if we can’t keep our government running and upright that doesn't send a positive persona to the rest of the
The legislative leaders as well as Governor LePage’s administration downplay the possibility of a shutdown, and have all stressed their commitment to avoid this drastic measure. However, LePage’s often adversarial relationship with the legislature and battles over MaineCare funding must not be downplayed. LePage’s administration is not offering any insight as to how the administration would conduct state government if a shutdown occurs; however, it will fall to LePage to decide which government services are essential and will continue in the event a budget agreement is not realized and a shutdown occurs.
Before the Holidays, lawmakers passed a trillion-dollar bill which will keep the government open until the end of next September. This bill funded cyber security and renewed a health care program for September 11 first responders, and it also changed the visa waiver program which brought great discrimination
According to NBC News’ article, “Sorry, we’re closed: Government shutdown ripples across the country,” published on October 1, 2013, written by Matthew DeLuca, it describes how many of the general population were affected when Congress members failed to reach a consensus regarding the government’s finances and budgets. The Senate rejected laws proposed by the Republican portion of the House, which led to delays in the cancellation of the Affordable Care Act. This shutdown lasted sixteen days, which angered many people. People were upset over the fact while they were going to work, the government workers were not showing up for work. During the shutdown, many Senators’ offices were closed, meaning they weren’t able to respond to requests from
The word on the hill is that if Republicans don’t cave and fund Obama’s DHS amnesty scheme that they will be blamed by the people and pay for it at the polls. Where have we heard that before?
In the past America has been a dominant superpower in the field of military strength, but for the last few decades, our military has encountered abounding liquidations and sequestrations, which lead to huge budget cuts. Nevertheless, America has faced many politicians planning to cut down on our military by virtue of it is simply cost effective. The Clinton Foundation has been cutting our military for countless years. Also, under the Obama Administration has been enacting laws comparable to the Budget Control Act or (BCA) which has been siphoning our military for the past 8 years. For countless years, defense officials remain silent due to the Obama Administration, vaguely America could keep its budget under control. Consequently, all four
Executive order is a rule or order issued by the president to an executive branch of the government and having the force of law. Executive Order (EOs) were used since President George Washington but were not mandated to be publicly released until 1900. To date, there have been thirteen thousand eight hundred and seven executive orders. Many argue that these orders are unconstitutional as it gives one-person authority to make changes without consequences and without the consent of Congress. The term executive order is not a principle found within the Constitution. EO is derived from Article II, Section I of the Constitution in which it states, “the executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America”. The term executive power was never defined, leaving it open to the interpretation of each president. That statement coupled with Article II, Section III “he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed” has been the backbone of how presidents have been able to create these orders.
The legislature's set up allows for corruption to exist in the government. The government shutdown of 2013 ended after a "deal was reached in the U.S. Senate that included a provision that raised the spending cap on a dam construction project in Kentucky" (Hudak). In this case, "2.2 billion" dollars were set aside for this project (Almasy). CNN's article stated: "So much for a "clean" bill" (Almasy). Despite the fact that the major issue occurring was the government shutdown, Senator Mitch McConnell still pushed for his rider to be added to the bill. Salient issues are not being addressed
Gridlock is caused by a variety of other factors. Both branches of Congress might have the same party majority, but the President may be of another. If this happens, the President may resort to his veto powers to stop a piece of legislation from continuing and or his executive order powers to progress a specific bill to be passed.. Another cause of gridlock is extreme party polarization. The gap between parties is quickly growing and there aren’t enough independents and moderates to even the scale. Back in 2013, there were only 6 moderates in all of Congress. The officials aren’t all to blame though. The people’s voting habits have an effect on gridlock. Through the years, incumbents have been repeatedly voted back into office. This continuous cycle is going to further increase the presence of gridlock. New ideas and minds are being kept out of Congress and having the same viewpoints in control is going to hinder
The definition of congressional gridlock is the inability of the government to act because different parties (usually rivals) control different parts of the government. When two major partisan parties have a differentiating stands when it comes to ideology that’s when gridlock occurs. The House of Representatives and the senate are controlled by different parties, and this is when congressional gridlock can occur. This situation is very common and is a bit complex because in order for bills to be presented, the house has to be in agreeance with it first. Many members fear losing control with the decisions they make, without Congress all being controlled by the same party. If congress were to side with the opposing party on an issue that could benefit many lives, they won’t because they feel that they will not be loyal to their colleagues’ beliefs and stand on that
When a government’s spending exceeds its revenues causing or deepening a deficit it is called deficit spending. Deficit spending is only one of numerous tools used to help manage the economy. Deficit spending is presumed to stimulate consumer demand by helping the consumer to obtain more money to spend, in turn, the demand of product will rise. There are advantages and disadvantages to deficit spending that we will discuss further below.
Growing spending and debt are undermining economic growth and may push the nation into a financial crisis in coming years. Edward then stated that the solution to these problems is to downsize every federal department by cutting the most harmful programs. This study proposes specific cuts that would reduce federal spending by almost one-quarter and balance the budget in less than a decade."
Answer: If there is a difference in the spending of government and the in income will lead to the deficits. More over deficits occurs when the amount of government total budget exceeds its total receipt for a fiscal year was said by US senate budget committee. From the US debit clock, largest budget items list are medical, social security, defense/war, income security, net interest on debt, federal pensions. As we can see that the largest budget items every item has its own importance for Medicare the budget is $949 billions, social security is $872 billions, defense is $591 billion, income security is $310 billions, net interest on debt is $245 billion, and federal pensions is $253 billion. A cut back in the spending of the government is not an easy task because which lead to so many issues. Every items has got his own importance consider defense which is a national importance, medical which is health importance, likewise every items has got their own importance. I would recommend cut back on income security in which the budget is allotted to maintain forester care, earned income credit, unemployment compensation, nutrition assistance, family support, making work pay this is meant for the citizens of the social welfare.
Adapted from the novel Wives and Concubines by Su Tong, Zhang Yimou’s Raise the Red Lantern presents a glimpse into the oppressive life as a fourth wife. The film follows the arranged marriage of Songlian and her the film presents a criticism of traditional Chinese customs and practices is displayed. The clip to be analysed is the climactic final of the movie as Songlian follows a groups of servants dressed in black as they carry the third wife along the rooftops. Their destination is one particular room mentioned earlier in the movie as a haunted place where adulterous wives were hanged. Its place in the overall theme of the film will also be analysed with a focus on the camera work in particular.
Deficit spending is when purchases exceed income. It is usually attributed to government spending within an economy. Although it can happen to both individual and business, when government spends more and not able to balance the budget, we say it is deficit spending. Deficit spending is created each fiscal year by congress and government because the spending by government causes the growth of the economy. For example, in the United State deficit spending is mainly caused by social, security, and medical cost. Government spends most of its revenue in each fiscal year into this payment. According to Kimberly Amadeo(2017) he said “ most people don’t realize that wars create more deficit spending than the create recession. The war in Afghanistan cost $28.7 billion in 2001.The war in Iraq for deployed military costs $72.5 billion by 2003. In 2008, the total cost grew to $186.6 billion.
We’re looking at the difference between Romanesque cathedrals and Gothic cathedrals. I know you all are so excited to learn what a flying buttress is because I know I was. Spoiler alert, it is nothing like what it sounds like. It’s much more cool and innovative, which is what these two periods were all about. Taking knowledge from the past and improving it.
