In this era, gun control has become a very controversial topic. People have debated whether any person should be able to obtain the privilege of handling or carrying a gun. Scholars, teachers, and politicians consistently go over the fact that guns can be a potential threat to society, especially with the current uprising of shootings across The United States. However, they fail to further analyze the feelings of those who believe that obtaining a gun is essential to feel safe and to ensure their survival. Over the years, violence in our communities has increased significantly, which frightens people and inclines them to carry their own gun. There are several factors that can cause someone to want to carry a firearm such as, a recent …show more content…
The need to protect their family could essentially cause a person to bear a firearm to ensure their family's safety. Throughout the years, there have been a variety of home invasions cases where members of the family have been kidnapped, murdered, raped, or robbed of valuable property. It is these cases that have surfaced feelings of fear and agitation throughout the nation. For instance, there are families that live in desolate areas where the nearest police station is twenty miles away. Individuals who reside in these areas might want to carry a firearm in order to protect their family in case an unfortunate situation were to occur, they could defend themselves instead of risking their lives waiting for help to arrive. In fact, firearms serve as a deterrent for intruders. Families that own a firearm could be less susceptible to being hurt during a home invasion because intruders will fear and less likely attack the family knowing they are able to properly defend themselves. Also, home invasions are not the only threat to families, a simple night out can turn into a menacing situation where a burglary or mass shooting can occur, carrying a concealed weapon provides a measure a safety for the individual and their family, as well as the lives of others that are

For many years, people have been pushing the American government to implement new laws that deal with gun control. Supporters of the argument claim that increased gun control will drastically reduce the crime rate in America. Nevertheless, a majority of gun control arguments are formed from strict control of data and emotional appeal. The mainstream media picks up these stories and broadcasts them to viewers without providing any context to them. While gun control activists assert that gun control is necessary, the American government should not ban guns because of the following reasons: potential vulnerability of innocent people being shot at by criminals and the inability for people to defend themselves against their own government.
Gun control is defined as the “regulation of the selling, owning, and use of guns” (“Gun Control” Merriam-Webster 1). Gun control is a heated topic that many Americans concern themselves with today after recent mass shootings. Suggested solutions are posed and debated between different viewpoints. The laws in existence today should be carried out and tightened before excess laws are passed. Many Americans have turned to face the issue of gun control after recent mass shootings like the one in Las Vegas or in some Churches. Some Americans with a more liberal view believe that tighter gun control laws should be enacted. More conservative Americans believe that the gun control laws already passed should be followed through. The gun laws that have already been passed should be followed through opposed to enacting new laws because many laws are already in place, gun control laws do not stop illegally obtaining a gun, and strict gun control laws have failed to prevent mass killings in countries.
The most common reason why people argue that they need to have a gun is for safety, so they can protect themselves against burglars. If a burglar would come into your house, you would have a better chance defending yourself and your family with a gun, than if you did not have a gun. The number of concealed weapon owners is at an all time high. In comparison the number of homicides had drastically decreased alongside the growing rate of legal concealed weapons. This number had been nearly cut in half in the past 20 years(Goldberg).
The development of arguments surrounding gun control corresponds to the increased violence and problems related to weapons and firearms use. This then prompted the expansion of gun control initiatives and has shapes public opinion particularly in the promotion of increased regulation to banning. Due to this, it became controversial as it split the opinions of the citizenry particularly in their stance to advance different objectives. Arguably, the process of developing gun control remains to be detrimental due to its capacity to challenge individual rights and liberty, undermine the value of guns and firearms in the promotion of deterrence and self-defense and inability to recognize the commitment of
In the recent months, gun violence has become more common than ever. It seems that we cannot go a day without turning on the news and learning of a shooting. As a society, we are worried for our safety and question whether or not guns should be held by everyday non-government citizens. It seems that individuals turn to guns when they are not heard and are upset by other events.
Violence. Murder. Sadness. These words describe a situation that has been occurring in the United State more frequently, a mass shooting. The thought of something so horrible happening to someone close or even oneself is hard to imagine. However, knowing that that possibility of a shooting happening is raising more concern on gun laws. The debate is one that is difficult to answer; there are those who, almost literally, love their guns more than their children and there are those who love their children more than guns. Both sides make valid arguments and can be quite convincing as well, although, to provide a unanimous solution we must analyze both perspectives. The question is then brought to attention; what are the perspectives on the gun
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." - The Bill of Rights.“The 21st century” a backdrop for the War On Terror, has since changed that view on the right to bear arms enough to call for major gun reform. Orlando, Florida 50 killed and 53 injured June 12, 2016. San Bernardino, California 16 killed and 24 injured December 2, 2015. The media slanders two weapons of so called “terror”, the infamous AK-47 and the AR-15. The AK-47 a soviet made weapon a by product of the cold war, and the AR-15 a weapon invented to combat the AK-47. Both weapons are used in many mass shootings, in fact the New York Times calls both assault rifles
Various studies have come forth arguing the ratio of gun related deaths to amount of conceal and carry permits show that while gun ownership increased in certain states, gun related deaths and violence for that matter decreased slightly . While only slight, a decrease in proportion to the amount of the amount of firearms sold, to deaths is significant in the argument that more guns does not necessarily mean more violence. In come instance, individuals seem safer when others around them are carrying firearms, as this acts as a sort of deterrent system. If someone has the idea or thought to commit an act with a firearm or any act or illegal activity for that matter, there is possibility for an average citizen who had a firearm on their
Although I did not agree with the article How Gun Control Advocates Could break the NRA’s Blockade by Ronald Brownstein, it states some points that were hard to refute about gun control and that helped shape my argument. My stance on gun control is that we should not ban guns as a whole, but have more of a centralized approach on how people can obtain a gun. Being an American citizen allows you with certain alienable rights that are outlined by the Bill of Rights. We as a nation were given these rights at the creation of our great nation based on the fact that all men were created equal. Some of the rights that are given include things such as, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, and the right to bear arms. The Bill of Rights was made because they wanted to place specific limits on government power. The author of the article is suggesting that we as a nation should ban all types of guns. This topic of banning guns or not banning guns is important because in recent events there has been a lot of mass shootings that have ended lives too early. These mass shootings are becoming more and more common the number of people that have been killed by guns within the last year has been four hundred and sixty-one. Also, there have been over three hundred mass shootings in the last 477 days.
Gun Politics in the U.S. are defined by two distinct groups: those who are for tighter if not outright ban on guns. And those who want to preserve every American’s rights to bear Arms under the second amendment. This of course led to disagreements when it came to the interpretation of laws and court cases related to firearms. Among other things related to the issue, like the effects gun control has on crime and the public safety (Rozsa, 2017). Debates regarding the access to firearms by the general populous and gun violence in the United States have been characterized by the concerns about the rights to bear arms and the responsibility of the government to serve the needs of its citizens. Such as the prevention of crime and
Since 1791, the United States has allowed citizens the right to bear arms; citizens have depended on the ability to carry and use firearms. What if that just, went away? Every citizen would give up their firearm and there would be nothing for civilians to use to protect themselves with, at least, not something that they are used to carrying or having in their homes. The government should not restrain the ownership, the use, or the concealed carry of firearms for the reason that owning guns has shown to lower crime rates; keeping guns prevents the Second Amendment from being violated; and banning guns does not prevent criminals from disobeying the law.
Gun control is a ongoing topic in American history that different people with different religious, political and social views have. The three articles that will be explained and argued against in this paper is all making the argument that if more gun control was implemented in today's American society then the violent crimes will shorty drop following the control of firearms. Gun control makes easy prey out of law-obeying people, who lawfully live in America. If criminals want to perform a crime, they will do so, whether or not they can get a firearm. It is illegal to drive drunk, yet people still do it. Marijuana is illegal, yet people still buy, sell and smoke it. Why would someone who does not exactly follow the law against murder
According to the human rights organization, thousands of people are dead or injured by shooting every year. These events are due to improper use of guns or other reasons. In my opinion, these unfortunate events must be prevented. There are thousands of reasons why using weapons should be banned. In fact, having a gun should not be allowed in general.
If guns are regulated, citizens will be left to the hands of the criminal who will acquire and use them contrary to the laws. Crimes are believed to be prevented given possibility of the victim gun possession; statistically violent crimes have gone down with an increase in the right to carry guns. Weaker individuals and women who do not have the mechanism of self-defense rely on weapons. Many American citizens who hunt as a sport or practice target shooting as entertainment, this privilege should not be taken away from them. A family legacy of gun ownership is many times a determining factor in whether a person will become an owner. The legacies of guns from family members do not pose a threat to an individual. However, there should be tougher laws for people who offer sales of fire arms at events and sell weapons that cannot be traced. Citizens are also believed to reinforce the police efforts to combat crime. Therefore, the crimes that are regarded as less harmful are aggravated by the addition of guns to the offence. Also, legalized gun holders increase the chances of the weapon falling into the hands of kids who are prone to cause deadly accidents either intentionally as revenge or
