Gun control is an extremely argumentative social issue in the United States. Many people support of gun control, these people want stronger laws to ban certain groups from bargaining and buying weapons and use those in the public. They have many reasons for gun control because as citizens, they want a safe and secure society for their families. Although, there are some groups who are not satisfied with this decision and have their reasons. They believe, using gun in the public is necessary. One of the reasons they have is, in case if the mass shooting happen they can defend people in this risky situation. This is logical, if citizens want some rights to have gun and wants safer life for their families, but at the same time gun rights can make tragedy for many other citizens. The government has to find a law that can protect all or majority of citizens. Many mental problems or unhappy people live in this society and they want to have gun and they believe this is their right per second amendment of the Constitution. For that reason maybe they want to use their gun and bring awful tragedy to other people. Killing or hurting people is not second amendment of the Constitution, so the society need stronger law that can control the society. This is obvious that the law has to control the act of the people in the public not the emotion of the people.
The U.S. has one of the big problems of civil society in the past and now. Unfortunately, the victims are not member of government or member of congresses or lawmakers, they are innocent people like children, women and men who does not even own a gun, but they are still victims of government ignoring the situation. The question that citizens ask their government is, how does this government care about people in the world that even send soldier and money for protect them and fight with their enemy? Why this government cannot find solution for own country and own citizen? The united nation is located in the United States which wants human right for the rest of the world. To find the best answer, is better have some theories, so maybe these theories help the readers finding the best solutions. Maybe for this problem it is not an answer for all, maybe behind this story is
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Courts have universally agreed, however, that the right provided by the Second Amendment is not absolute and that many kinds of gun legislation designed to protect public safety remain valid ("Gun Safety & Public Health," 2013). The ongoing debate between the gun rights versus gun control has caught more attention as number of cases involving gun violence increased significantly. In one study, it stated that major mental illnesses are associated with increased risk of violent act. In recent years, there were several news headlines on
The Constitution states the second amendment as, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”1 This amendment gives the people the right to own and carry guns for their protection and for the security of their homes. There are many controversies surrounding the issue of people owning guns and gun related violence because of the second amendment. One of the biggest controversies is the regulations on gun control regulating what type of guns people may possess and what kind of registration is required. The tenth amendment says, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”2 The second amendment (along with all the other amendments) is under federal jurisdiction; therefore the states do not have power in this case.3 The second amendment gives the right to all American citizens to bear arms, therefore, the States do not have the power to regulate what type of firearm they may possess and how they carry or keep it.
As opponents against gun control have numerous reasons as to why guns should not be restricted amongst the American public but pointed to the Second Amendment to the United Constitution as the main reason why gun control should not be permitted in the U.S. However, what these critics do not want to accept is that since 1980, several crucial events in the United States have led to excessive gun control movement. Remarkably, it takes a lot more than one appalling catastrophe to influence Americans that more attention should be taken into monitoring the number and types of guns the public can get access to. However, some major shooting calamities in the U.S such as assassination attempts on President Reagan’s, Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook have all triggered majority of Americans to take a stance in favor of gun control legislation. The first key push in the direction of the gun control movement begun during the era of Ronald Reagan presidency since he happened to be of one of the most “pro gun” presidents in American history.
The second amendment states that “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” taking away our second amendment takes away our protection that was given to the people in the original rights of the constitution. Gun control has been a topic of controversy since the New Deal in which the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Federal Firearms Act of 1938 were enacted. Although some forms of gun control are useful such as background checks and the National Firearms act of 1938, people should not be limited by concealed carry permits or open carry laws. American citizens should not be restricted from the type of firearm they are allowed to buy, how they use them, or where they keep them unless it is unconstitutional.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." - The Bill of Rights.“The 21st century” a backdrop for the War On Terror, has since changed that view on the right to bear arms enough to call for major gun reform. Orlando, Florida 50 killed and 53 injured June 12, 2016. San Bernardino, California 16 killed and 24 injured December 2, 2015. The media slanders two weapons of so called “terror”, the infamous AK-47 and the AR-15. The AK-47 a soviet made weapon a by product of the cold war, and the AR-15 a weapon invented to combat the AK-47. Both weapons are used in many mass shootings, in fact the New York Times calls both assault rifles
Although I did not agree with the article How Gun Control Advocates Could break the NRA’s Blockade by Ronald Brownstein, it states some points that were hard to refute about gun control and that helped shape my argument. My stance on gun control is that we should not ban guns as a whole, but have more of a centralized approach on how people can obtain a gun. Being an American citizen allows you with certain alienable rights that are outlined by the Bill of Rights. We as a nation were given these rights at the creation of our great nation based on the fact that all men were created equal. Some of the rights that are given include things such as, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, and the right to bear arms. The Bill of Rights was made because they wanted to place specific limits on government power. The author of the article is suggesting that we as a nation should ban all types of guns. This topic of banning guns or not banning guns is important because in recent events there has been a lot of mass shootings that have ended lives too early. These mass shootings are becoming more and more common the number of people that have been killed by guns within the last year has been four hundred and sixty-one. Also, there have been over three hundred mass shootings in the last 477 days.
Since 1791, the United States has allowed citizens the right to bear arms; citizens have depended on the ability to carry and use firearms. What if that just, went away? Every citizen would give up their firearm and there would be nothing for civilians to use to protect themselves with, at least, not something that they are used to carrying or having in their homes. The government should not restrain the ownership, the use, or the concealed carry of firearms for the reason that owning guns has shown to lower crime rates; keeping guns prevents the Second Amendment from being violated; and banning guns does not prevent criminals from disobeying the law.
Gun control is a ongoing topic in American history that different people with different religious, political and social views have. The three articles that will be explained and argued against in this paper is all making the argument that if more gun control was implemented in today's American society then the violent crimes will shorty drop following the control of firearms. Gun control makes easy prey out of law-obeying people, who lawfully live in America. If criminals want to perform a crime, they will do so, whether or not they can get a firearm. It is illegal to drive drunk, yet people still do it. Marijuana is illegal, yet people still buy, sell and smoke it. Why would someone who does not exactly follow the law against murder
With mass shootings on the rise, street violence killing by the thousands, and suicide victims climbing as well, gun control laws have been a hot topic in today’s media. There are many state laws and a federal amendment that pertain to firearms. These laws try to restrict and regulate the sale, purchase, and possession of firearms through licensing, registration, and identification requirements (US. Legal, Inc.). These laws are in place to protect people who own or do not own guns from those who would be the most dangerous when in possession of one. However, there are large loopholes in these laws that allow people to get a gun without facing any of the laws’ requirements. It is these loopholes that give people whom wish to harm or kill other, the ability to purchase a firearm when otherwise they would have been prohibited. Stricter and more thorough firearm-related laws need to be put into place, so that previous loopholes will be eliminated.
There is no doubt that gun control is a topic that creates conflict between political parties, families, states, cities and neighbors. It is also obvious that all sides of the debate use information they gather to promote their own agendas and their own personal views. But what exactly is gun control? Who in society is responsible for gun control issues to have come to the forefront of one of society's biggest and most political debates? One could reasonably argue that criminals are what prompts the most interest in gun control and more importantly, gang members. According to National Gang Intelligence Center (NGIC) analysis, "Gang-related crime and violence continues to rise. “Many believe that gang members are responsible for an average of 48 percent of violent crimes in most jurisdictions
The results of the United State’s lack of regulation are evident through many events in our country. From horrifying mass shootings to suicide, guns only encourage violent behavior. According to the Centers for Disease Control in 2014, approximately 33,000 people die each year because of gun-related homicides, suicides, and accidents in the United States. As previously stated, advocates for gun rights argue that guns don’t kill people, people kill people. However, this idea has been proven not entirely true. In December of 2012, a Chinese man walked into an elementary school and attacked 22 children with a knife. While the act was extremely tragic, the use of a gun would have worsened the already violent situation. If a gun had been
On January 5th, 2016, an emotional President Obama broke down in tears as he introduced new gun control executive orders. He was clearly upset at the amount of innocent people whose lives had ended by being shot. The image of his emotions made many Americans realize: are our current laws not enough? Although gun violence has been on a steady decline for the last few decades, the U.S. is still the global leader in gun violence and ownership, according to U.S. News(McPhillips). Some people do not like that title associated with their country, so they push for gun control laws. Ideally, the best way to end gun violence is to abolish the 2nd Amendment, and illegalize guns. However, that would be an unheralded task. Banning guns would be impossible.
“The growing sense among many Americans that no one was safe from unpredictable gun violence fueled the debate over gun control,” (Baughman, par. 4). Gun control is a term referring to the set of law or policies that regulate the usage of firearms by civilians. In the early history of the United States, Congress passed a bill, known as the Second Amendment, which protects one of America's most controversial freedoms: the right to bear arms. The Second Amendment states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (Benson, par. 3). When it was signed it into law times were dangerous, and the “right to bear arms was initially related to the need to arm militias (citizens organized for military service) that could protect states from attack by foreign powers” or tyranny (Benson, par. 5). Today, the United States has the highest number per capita as well as a total number of guns in the world. Some citizens feel as if weapons are too easy to attain, and, due to the poorly structured weapon system, more shootings have occurred. However, people who oppose gun control argue that guns are not the problem, but the people who have them are. The topic of gun control is hotly debated because it includes the issues of violence and as well as issues of personal defense. Gun control must be more strictly composed through more thorough criminal background checks and analytical interviews of people buying guns, thus preventing those with criminal records or with malicious intent from purchasing a weapon.
In today’s time guns are easy to get regardless of who you are. Murders, thieves, terrorist, and more can buy weapons on the black market or steal them from militaries and responsible gun owning citizens. Leaders of nations need to come up with a solution for this issue and actually attempt to solve the problem. Too many of our loved ones are being murdered in schools, homes, streets, and public events it needs to stop.
For many years, people have been pushing the American government to implement new laws that deal with gun control. Supporters of the argument claim that increased gun control will drastically reduce the crime rate in America. Nevertheless, a majority of gun control arguments are formed from strict control of data and emotional appeal. The mainstream media picks up these stories and broadcasts them to viewers without providing any context to them. While gun control activists assert that gun control is necessary, the American government should not ban guns because of the following reasons: potential vulnerability of innocent people being shot at by criminals and the inability for people to defend themselves against their own government.
