In the United States, the gun laws need to be tightened, the laws that are in place now are too loose. If the United States tighten the gun laws we could cut down on deaths. It would also cut down on people acquiring firearms illegally like through families and friends, and legally but in unsafe ways like the Charleston Loophole. If the United States passes tighter gun laws the deaths would decrease and the United States will be a bit of a nicer place.
The Charleston Loophole is a big example of the reason the United States needs tighter Gun Laws. From the years 2010 through 2016, the loophole allowed about 23,000 guns to be sold to dangerous people (source 1). To buy a gun you had to go through a three business day background check. If that check could not be completed within the three business day time period, by federal law the stores were allowed to sell people the guns without the background check completed. If there was a larger time period for the background check the problem of dangerous people getting firearms, would diminish. All the background checks that have been completed have blocked more than two million dangerous people from getting firearms (also source 1). Also, most likely saved many lives which could have been taken if the people whose background checks were blocked.
Another reason we should place tighter gun laws is that of how easy it is to acquire a gun. An article from the New York Times reviews a documentary called “The New Radical”. That documentary talked about a person named Cody Wilson, who released the first known 3D printer plans to create a gun. He named the gun The Liberator, and it is a single shot pistol made in a 3D printer. His gun plans had people questioning the boundaries of the 2nd amendment. Most other people would use the easier way like Daniel Webster said: “When criminals get guns, they get them from friends, family, or from an underground market source.” (source 1 article 2) Meaning that criminals and dangerous people could have a friend who is not convicted of a crime or “clean” buy the gun they use to kill or hurt a lot of people. This just shows how easy it is to obtain a working gun or gun substitute. The people who disagree with the statement “We should
There are currently over 200 million guns in use, which means obtaining a gun in the United States mustn't be that hard. If gun usage could be regulated more by banning certain unneeded weapons to the public and requiring a more in depth background check, than miss usage of guns, and deaths caused by them would decrease. However, already existing laws need to be enforced and harsher penalties for those who don't follow the laws. If the country would agree on certain legislation for gun control, than The United States could be a much safer
More than 30 people are shot and murdered each day. Gun Control is becoming a huge problem in the U.S.. Numerous people have died due to terrorist and criminals who have guns. The rise of gun casualties has created a debate on whether or not you are allowed to own a gun. The amount of restrictions on owning a gun has recently made it hard to get a gun. If no one is able to have a gun, then people will not be able to protect themselves. There needs to be a limit on the amount of gun laws, however there needs to be stricter background checks so that criminals can not get guns easily.
The first reason why gun laws should be stricter in America is stricter gun laws will save lives. In 2010, 31,076 people died from gun violence in America, that is 85 people every day and three people every hour. There were also 73,505 people in emergency care because of non-fatal gun wounds in 2010. People often call the Vietnam War one of the biggest wastes of life in history, but more deaths occur in two years from gun violence in America than in all 20 years of the Vietnam War. Stricter gun laws would make it harder for people to access the guns that caused all of this death, and greatly decrease the number of deaths that gun violence cause. (Agretsi
The gun law controversy has been a public debate for the past few decades. With the current state of the nation, it is not uncommon to see mass shooting occur in schools, churches, and in public. The most recent current events would illustrate the use of these weapons can cause massive death rates: the church in Texas being attacked by an individual with a domestic abuse history, the country concert event in Las Vegas, even the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and the death of children who could not defend themselves. As onlookers watch these events unfold, ideas of creating more laws to regulate guns arise and a national push for legislation to act is engaged. Countering this movement are those who would oppose more laws as the fear that rights would be trampled, and personal safety removed. The answer to this heated debate of strict gun control laws is not to take them away; they are put into place with the intent to govern the safety of our society.
There should be extended time required for background checks to be completed, will limit the law that one may be allowed to purchase a gun because the background check did not come quickly enough. In some countries, such as Germany, most people who purchase a firearm must also be given a psychological evaluation. This can limit the number of violent or depressed citizens from receiving firearms and hopefully encourage them to find the medical help they may require. Ultimately, whoever has purchased a gun may be inconvenienced through the process, but the reward is that guns only go to those who have demonstrated that they have the responsibility required to own a
“According to the Congressional Research Service, there are roughly twice as many guns per capita in the United States as there were in 1968: more than 300 million guns in all” describe in the article Guns In America, By The Numbers by Scott Horsley at npr.org. The number of guns’ sale is increasing every year. Some people might think more gun more peach, but some of them think more gun more violence. In common sense, a place where has the incredibly lax gun law, the country has the strongest culture of gun ownership, highest rate of suicide, highest gun violence per capita. In the EBSCO article, Gun Control in America: An Autopsy report by Collier, Charles W,described “the United States with less than 5 percent of the world’s population and nearly half the world’s firearms (pg. 81). United States is the little country that allows people illegal to carry a gun protect their life in the right way. They use to teach their children how to use guns when they are little. The more we learn, the more we use to. More people using gun as tool to suicide and killing another because the unlimited availability of gun sale. The more gun we have sale, the country will be becoming an armed society. As the number of guns increasing, the US homicide rate was increasing and higher than other country. In the Google scholar article, Violent Death Rates: The US Compared with OECD Countries, 2010, explain that US homicide rates were much higher than other high-income countries, the gun homicide rate in the United States was 49.0 times higher and the overall firearm death rate in the United States from all causes was 10.0 times higher”. This year, I have heard about two homicide case from customer in where I used to work. The death rate of gun violence having a certain relationship to the lax gun laws and policy. The above evidences show how gun violence has been affected to our lives,
Gun control laws should be strictly enforced because individuals can take advantage of the relaxed enforcement and harm others.
Guns laws should be lenient because it would ensure the safety of the innocent against criminals. According to the FBI, in 2014, a total of 8,124 gunshot homicides were reported that year(Sanger-Katz, Kevin Quealy and Margot. "Compare These Gun Death Rates: The U.S. Is in a Different World." The New York Times. The New York Times, 13 June 2016. Web. 15 May 2017.). If Americans were better protected from henius criminals than they could have defend themselves properly. Although to popular belief, laws don’t lower homicide rates. According to the FBI, 15,696 homicides were committed in the USA in 2015 ("Latest Crime Statistics Released." FBI. FBI, 26 Sept. 2016. Web. 15 May 2017.). If Americans weren’t limited by gun laws than more people will be able to defend themselves.
Congress, do not pass this bill! Smart guns are not any more effective at curbing violence than non-smart guns. Even if they would prevent some future catastrophes, they will also cause future catastrophes! These guns will cause more problems than they solve, and the negative results will be detrimental to the American people. Anything managed by software will have vulnerabilities; systems are hacked all the time. If this happened with the gun regulation system, it would make things infinitely easier for criminals, while possibly preventing the average American from defending himself. Even without anyone hacking the software, many reasonable circumstances would also prevent someone from defending himself. For example, what if multiple
Gun deaths are the twelfth most cause of all deaths in America or 1.3% of all deaths "Gun Control - ProCon.org". Unintentional deaths caused by guns is 0.5% of deaths in America and it's decreasing every year. Homicide rates with guns have been decreasing since 2006 with 41% and now in 2015 with 35% "Gun Control - ProCon.org". Why ban guns? Guns should not be banned. The research shows that gun deaths like homicide, unintentional deaths, and undermined deaths are going down. If you do the research you can find that there was a ban it was from 1999-2004 and didn't go as planned. After you read this you will see why you should say keep them.
A DAY HAPPENS like any other day. Then some guy asks you for all of your card information. You refuse. He then pulls a Vector (a sub-machine gun, still fully automatic) and points it right at you. Luckily, the police pull up and take him away for illegal assault. Automatic guns and rifles are banned for civilian use, mostly because of how dangerous they are. This is the gun control law.
Today there is a constant debate over whether or not there is a need for more legislation against guns and who can acquire them. With that the people who should be able to access these weapons must be responsible citizens who will use their guns for the purpose of protection or helping others. Although there are those who abuse their weapons and use them improperly, guns should not be made more difficult to purchase for the responsible citizens who could very well stop those individuals abusing their weapons. Adding more gun control laws will only disarm millions of americans in need of protection.
Guns are an evil tool that can end humanity. Most people are dying due to gun violence. Individuals don’t feel safe anymore. Gun can easily be purchased. Therefore, the U.S should put more restrictions on gun ownership and use for people's safety.
As you can see gun control should be stricter. This is so because it can lower the rates of the amount of gun related crimes such as murder, and robbery being committed. And the most important thing is that it can provide is safety, putting more stricter laws on owning a firearm and who can would make a lot more people feel safer in our country. A step in the
Too many people are being killed each year. If the United States has stricter gun laws there will be less shootings and kills. In the United States 33,600 people die every year from a firearm. I think there should be more gun laws in place because we have the police to protect us.
