As many of you are becoming the age when Ohio University allows you to live off-campus, I wanted to give a few tips for what you should keep in mind when looking for a place to live Athens. Houses/apartments go fast and force you to sign a lease within the first few weeks of the Fall Semester. Being someone who signed a house with three girls, whom I have known since freshman year, I thought it would be no problem, since I have already lived with them. I am not a person to confront someone when an issue comes up, but instead let it roll over. Don’t let that happen; speak about what you want out from each individual so things are clear before signing a lease to live with them for the next year. Know your rights when it comes to being tenants,
The education conflict in Texas is a major factor of chaos. There is kids without college tuitions. The 2011 Texas Legislature chopped more than a billion dollars from higher education, dashing the dream of college for many Texas students. While scholarships disappeared, many campuses were forced to raise tuition costs, a deadly combination for families without the resources to make up the difference.
Two weeks ago,my family and I moved to Texas. I saw the flat lands, dried up trees, and lots of dirt,I knew that I was no longer in Colorado. For starters,Colorado has many rivers and unlike Texas they don’t. Colorado also has so much traffic, but Texas hardly has any traffic. Colorado’s economics is producing electricity and Texas economics is producing oil.
The Texas Constitution of 1876 Certainly once one becomes familiar with the Texas Constitution and the Reconstruction period, they would recognize the need to redraft an entirely new document. Even though we can amend outdated legislation, this has contributed to the excessive length of the Texas Constitution. To date, there has been more than four-hundred and seventy- four amendments, and instead of organizing or thoughtfully placing these amendments with their correlating articles in the constitution, the amendments are scattered haphazardly throughout the body of the document. This exorbitantly long and restrictive document can be thought of as a model of what a constitution should not be.
Michael, after reading your post I had to research A.B. 109, Prop.47. Residing in Texas, most of my attention is in the Texas legislature and future impacts. I definitely understand your stance of the dangers of mandatory supervision versus state prison and not beneficial for our communities. Many of the pros and cons may be from an individual perspective and larger counties may see many more negatives from this change. There is much “hope” placed on the investments made today in realignment will result, positive public safety outcomes, effective rehabilitation, and lower recidivism.
European immigrants were sometimes pushed out of their homelands, and other times, came in hope for a better life. The German immigrants, the largest group of European immigrants to come to Texas, came for affordable, fertile land, but they were also forced out of the overpopulated Germany that had become overrun by industry. The Irish came simply for economic opportunities, and because an Irishman by the name of William Kennedy wrote a book encouraging (Texas: The Rise, Progress, and Prospects of the Republic of Texas) immigration to the prosperous Texas. France was also encouraged by a piece of writing- The Republic of Texas’ Treaty with The Kingdom of France, signed in 1840. This treaty communicated the amity between the two countries,
The Texas Constitution, a piece of paper that was created in order to help the people and the state. The Texas Constitution provides many ideas and articles that would be used throughout the state’s government, legislature, and community. Some of which that would be great for many propositions, and some that are simply not reasonable according to time. Which is why the Texas Constitution has its pros and cons, whether it is within its lack of modernity, or its reasonable understanding of the Bill of Rights. To start off, the Texas Constitution can be seen to have strength within its ability to understand the Bill of Rights.
The annexation of Texas in the 1840s had many advantages and disadvantages to our country. The divisions between those who supported and opposed this annexation were divided, mainly between the North and South and those representatives supporting each area of the nation. Southerners saw the acquisition of Texas as a way to expand our nation, spread slavery in the South to help empower them, and provide a place for the immigrants pressing the borders of our country. The North did not want Texas to cause the South to overpower them, they feared a war with Mexico, and believed that the growing slave population would cause the lower class of Northerners to be without work.
Finally, the main reason to move myself to Texas is my parents lives there. If I move to Texas, I am near to my parents which can increase my moral support and I can feel more attached with them. As the days passes, they are growing older. Therefore I can help them with their health issues and I can take care of them. My parents are retried so i don't need any babysitter of my kids. And my kids can be shower with all love and care of their grandparents.
The Texas population consists of people with a variety of different cultural and racial background. The Texas population seems to be very young with an approximate 27.3 percent of the population being under the age of 18, and about 11.5 percent being over the age of 65 (U.S. Census Bureau, “Texas.”). Factors that increase the Texas population include higher birthrates, lower death rates, as well as immigration from other countries and states. The population is changing from a primarily white population as recorded during the 1990s to a projected primarily Latino population by 2050. However, Latinos were not a considered a separate ethnic group until the 1990s but were counted to the white population which consisted of European whites and the Latinos. The African- American population decreased from over 20 percent during the 1850s to below 20 percent population as of 2015. Asian- Americans are considered the smallest population in Texas at 4.5 percent (The Asian Population,” 2010 Census Briefs). Due to the changing economy and
Texas, nicknamed “The Lone star State”, has always been very unique compared to any other state in the United States of America. Texas have a sense of great pride in where they come from. Texans hold their heads a just a little higher than anyone else. Texas is the second largest state in the U.S., Texans have their own pledge of allegiance to the state flag, and is the only state whose flag is permitted to fly as high as the American flag. So, why is it that Texans take so much pride in their own state? Texans take great pride in their state because at one point before Texas was a state belonging to the United States, it was its own country. This is how Texas got its name as the “Lone star” State. In nineteenth century, Texas fought many battles against Mexico and its leader Santa Anna, to gain Independence from the country. After many hostel wars and lives lost, Texas made a break through at the Battle of San Jacinto and conquered the Mexican government in the year 1836, becoming the new Republic of Texas. It then remained Independent for almost ten years. Our Independence and history of secession runs through our veins. The topic is a reoccurring one when it comes to politics. In recent years, there have been talks if Texas should secede from the United States again like they did in 1836. According to a poll in 2009, it showed that “50% Republicans, 40% Independents, and 15% Democrats believed that Texas should stand as an independent nation.” “338157 Texans have already
Robert Rodrigues once said “I’ve always tried to be that little kid with his hand in the air. It really works to be that Naïve, to really think you can do anything.” My hope is by attending college I will continue to be naïve about everything that comes to my way in life. The University of Texas, home of the longhorns, is a bold, ambitious top university and provides a place to explore my opportunities in the business world.

Texas Legislature met for the 85th time last spring since statehood. The Texas Legislature passed several laws from State budget, protecting children, schools, sanctuary cities, and many more, at the same time some laws where not passed.
Texas has a reputation throughout history of differing views from the federal government in laws and politics pertaining to social, fiscal, and educational issues. On the whole, Texas operates as a largely conservative state. Because of this, policy-making is often right wing. With the institution of a Democratic, liberal president, the State’s dissent from the Federal government has only increased over certain issues. One hot topic of the 2012 Presidential election was immigration. With the major increase in immigration, it is no surprise that the issue was so emphasized. Between 2000 and 2011 there was a 30 percent
The History of Texas Texas history itself had its own amazing story. The small number of American settlers moved to the land of Texas had led to the dramatic war with the Mexicans. The land of Texas was used to be owned by Mexicans. Due to the argument between Texans and Mexicans caused the battle of San Jacinto and Mexican War. In long ago before American settlers moved to Texas, this place was so rich and an abundance of land.
