A nutritionist is an individual whose work is to advise people on matters related to food and its nutritional impacts on health. Nutritionists are known by different names in different countries such as clinical nutritionist, nutrition scientist, sports nutritionist or the public health nutritionist. In some instances the terms nutritionist and dietitian are used interchangeably. However, there is a big difference between the two terms in the United State with the term nutritionist being less protected and can be used with anyone, while dietitians have to meet certain professional requirements.
Traditionally the term nutrition has been associated with alternative medicine with notable example in the work of Robert O. Young. However, this association has been disputed with celebrity nutritionist and self taught nutritionist being classified as a danger to the public. Nutrition is now recognized as a scientific discipline that employs standard scientific formula and scientific evidence in its operation. Today the Association for Nutrition keeps a log

In “Nutritionism Defined”, Michael Pollan uses a metaphor to construct an argument that shows nutritionism is defined by “empires.” Pollan shows that the “empires” are at war with each other. These “empires” are “refined carbohydrates versus fiber; animal protein versus plant protein; saturated fats versus polyunsaturated fats; and province of the polyunsaturates, omega-3 fatty acids versus omega-6s” (Pollan 492). The metaphor with these empires being at war with each other is able to show the reader that in the eyes of the consumer and their bodies, the nutrients are competing with each other to be the ultimate nutrient. Although these nutrients are said to be the top nutrient empires, they are not the same for each person. Some people may not eat many foods with the leading nutrient for the majority of other people, so for some people it might not be the same. People consume nutrients each and every day,

The movie, “In Defense of Food” is written and created by Michael Pollan. In this movie Pollin addresses the question of the correct way to eat. Additionally, he explains how the food industry gains from the confusion over what is nutritionally correct, an idea created by scientists called nutritionism. Pollan discusses how control over what families ate shifted from cultural factors, such as mothers and traditions, to marketing and the food industry. He concludes that

Natural Science: Health and Nutrition Concrete Experience I started to learn more about health and nutrition when I started my home childcare at the end of 2009-2010. I thought I knew what was healthy and nutritious for myself, my son, and the children attending my home childcare. In 2010 I joined a food program through Rainbow Fleet that helps in home childcare and childcare centers get federal money to help feed the children attending a healthy, nutritious meal that they may not be getting at home. They give me yearly training on what the guidelines are on what they think will be healthy and nutritious for growing children.

I asked her, “What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word ‘Nutrition’?” She shocked me by saying, “Confusion”. With so much conflicting and confusing information from both the scientific community and the lay press, many people simply don't know what to eat to be healthy or to lose weight.
Despite the fact that I have enrolled in DTC 101, I currently have no intentions on becoming a registered dietitian nutritionist. Personally I would work in the Computer Science or in a Computer Technician field as I have a very high interest into working with modern day technology. However, for the fall semester I have decided to enroll in DTC 101 as during the time it has peaked my interest and curiosity. Hopefully by the end of this course, I will enjoy it and have a greater understanding towards dietitian nutritionist.
Junk food, junk food, junk food is around all corners of schools. Chocolate, cookies, soda, potato chips, and Sour Strings may sound delectable to some people, but are they nutritious? Some people wonder if there should be a change. Encouraging exceptional nutrition in schools is essential by reasons of students will consume foods that are better for them, schools will pay less for meals, and fewer students would go hungry.
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are
