Open adoption is “an adoption that involves contact between biological and adoptive parents and sometimes between biological parents and the adopted child” (“Open Adoption” 1973). There are close adoption and open adoption. Thus, whether to adopt children openly is becoming an controversial issue. There is an argument that the adoption should be open. Now, let us start with the first aspect. Open adoption may be generally good for children. In the first place, open adoption could be conducive to the mental health of adopted children and may be especially conducive to their acceptance and understanding of adoptive relationships. Open adoption may make children have more sense of security and the feelings of abandonment are correspondingly reduced. The openness of adoption could make the adopted child have less risk of mental illness (Agnich 2016). The adopted children perhaps want to know something about their biological parents. In a closed adoptive relationship, a child's mentality is probably changed and they are likely to have an prejudice of for the adoption.
