In the streets of Atlanta where most shootings happen a young gentleman was walking and had a conversation with this young man they told him that his job is not paying him enough and should come and sell drug to get more money the young man told them to give him time to think about it. Later on that night as he was thinking more and more about he came to a decision to start selling dope. He planned to go to them early in the morning to tell them his decision. So he did that they were glad he was joining and had his package ready and set for him. They told him the amount of what he was carrying and where he need to bring and how much it was worth they also had given him some money and a car to use as a transportation. So they also gave him …show more content…
So he said okay and went to the bathroom and remember where he remember her from and why they have the same last name it was his sister and haven’t seen her for 10 years because she got taken by social service and now working at a gas station. He told her that he was her brother and she was surprised and started crying and sobbing so did he they started taking and what he was doing. He told her that he was a gang member and had some money for her to come move to Atlanta with him. She thought and asked him how much money you have he said I have 1.5 million in the car I drove here. She was surprised and said okay and they left. They start to chat and have a couple of small talk conversation and half of the way she was asleep. They got to Atlanta and went to his gang and gave them the money and where surprised he pulled it off with the whole package across the country. He was really happy because he got 450k for that job which gave him a lot of money to take care of his sister. As he was going to his sister another gang member from a different gang saw what he had and robbed him and shot him 3 times. The police got there and found he was dead and called his sister to come verify the body. She came and crying her eyes like her eyes were about fall out. She remember when she was working at a gas station now she got
“ My biggest frustration so far is the fact that this society has not been willing to take some basic steps to keep guns out of the hands of people who can do just unbelievable damage… This is becoming a norm. We should be ashamed.” President Barack Obama said in regard to the shooting in Newton Connecticut in June of 2014. “We're the only developed country on earth where this happens and it happens now once a week, and it's a one day story. There's no place else like this,” he added. America is a unique country in that it is one of the only countries in which the right to bear arms is constitutionally protected. It is also the sole country with the most civilian owned guns and the highest rate of gun related violence. A mass shooting is defined as a single shooting incident which kills or injures four or more people, including the assailant. Between the years 2000 and 2014, the United states witnessed 133 mass shootings which is ten times more than those observed in developed countries such as Germany, Switzerland and Finland. According to the Mass Shooting Tracker, in 2015 only, there were 372 mass shootings in the US. 475 people were killed and 1,870 were wounded in these shootings. Excluding suicides, some 13,286 people were killed in 2015 in the US by firearms and 26,819 people were injured. According to the most recent data, ninety-two people on average are killed in the United States by guns.
“Since the start of the year, there have been 105+ mass shootings in the United States” (Arnold). The number of mass shootings this year alone has only grown and has left people wondering what there is to do. A common viewpoint across the country is to have stricter gun control around put into place. Stricter gun control brings the value of safety to mind. If guns that are used to carry out the mass shootings are taken away, then overall people will feel safer due to the assault weaponry being taken away from psychopath’s access to them. Take the Orlando night club shooting in 2016, which was the deadliest shooting in United States history at the time, for example: during the month that the shooting took place, requests for background checks by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) reached a monthly high; However private gun sales and sales made at gun shows do not require background checks, the number of background checks could underestimate the number of guns sold (Stroebe). If every gun sale that was made had a proper background check then the number of guns sold would see a decrease. James Hodgkinson was a 66-year-old with a history of alleged violence against women, he opened fire in Washington at Republican lawmakers; his only reason for opening fire was because he voted for Bernie Sanders and disliked Donald Trump (Daniel Dale Toronto). Decreasing the number of guns sold to people not mentally and/or physically capable of handling them would make the general population safer incase the incapable person had an outbreak at used the gun to harm someone and/or themselves. It would eliminate the people like Hodkinson who are using guns purely for hate crimes, and who have a history of violence.
On Sunday at 1:30 a.m. police responded to New Orleans shooting in the French Quarter. The police have not found a motive for the shooting, but two men have been arrested on firearms charges. The victims included: two females and eight males, which one had died later on in a hospital.
The handgun control debate demonstrates, a division into two sharply contrasting groups or sets of opinions or beliefs. In parts, of the country, shooting and hunting are a way of life for others they have no use in everyday life. Many people believe the gun violence problem could be fixed by passing stricter gun laws. This sparked a national conversation on gun control because mass shootings are becoming common in today's society. Many businesses are introducing universal background checks, and barring gun sales to people convicted of violent offenses. Gun control solutions are deeply divided along political lines. Gun control ownership vs protecting gun rights is the main deliberation. I believe in a society with hundreds of cultures, differences and arguments can arise out easily. It's best to control gun ownership rather than protecting the right of Americans to own guns. Guns give people power, with power inevitably becomes abuse. When President Obama called for new gun restrictions, the majority of gun owners feared that the federal government wanted to take away their right to own firearms; that increased
The debate between gun-control and gun-rights advocates is one that is fought on many fronts and has intermittently raged on for many years. Today, one such battlefront is that of national concealed carry: gun-control advocates see an armed citizenry as one with more potential for conflict and unnecessary killing while gun-rights proponents see it as a source of deterrence for violent crime. Yearly in the United States, roughly 12,000 people die because of gun-related homicides, and many more are wounded in hostile situations involving firearms. While implementing regulations that prevent certain individuals, like felons, from owning and using firearms certainly are worthwhile, the process for individuals who qualify to own guns should not be arduous. They should be permitted to legally purchase and carry concealed weapons for their own protection, as it is not the citizens who obtain firearms through legal means that are likely to incite a violent incident. Those who intend to do harm to others will do so by whatever means necessary, and that includes buying or stealing a weapon illegally. It is evident that gun-control laws have not stopped gun violence: lawmakers need to empower law-abiding citizens by allowing them to utilize their constitutional right to defend themselves and others with a concealed firearm.
There are alot of different views on the matter. Some people are for it and some people are not. According to the new york times the goverment has issued a bill that will try to keep handgun out of teen hands that pose a threat to themself and others. Another key fact is that studies have found that in 2012 most young teen that were sent to jail for gun charges in states that have terrible gun control lawswould have to face a ban on gun ownership in states with the strongest control according to the new york times. Now lets switch views for amoment. Now lets say u are a teen growing up in the ghetto that is trying do the right then. Like go to school, or go to work to take care of your family. Every teen has to go through all of this adversity
The war with gun violence worldwide had paved its controversy that struggled between sovereignty and public safety. Experts claim that the individual’s ideology, self-defense, and survival can cause the person to arm themselves. Although, gun related homicide cannot be stopped by banning guns alone, but by finding clues of a psychopath effected by emotional trauma before the purchase of weapons.
Do you realize the number of firearm deaths are steadily increasing each year? In 2000, there was 28,663 deaths, in 2010 there was 31,692 deaths, in 2014 there was 33,599 deaths (Alpers, 2016). Today, the chance of you being killed by a firearm is equivalent to the chance of you dying in a car accident. The dialogue on firearm importance becomes a more discussed topic everyday. We must be aware of the supporting and opposing arguments, for the better safety of our society currently. We must also be aware of the physiological needs after a gun related incident. The American Psychological Association mentions coping with the aftermath; discussing the event, turning away from news and gathering your emotions with a break, or even helping others do something good (A. 2017). Firearm violence prevention is crucial; not only to save lives, but also to prevent hurting individuals psychologically. New York Times, and The Atlantic have different perspectives on firearms, but all the same intent, to end the violence between Americans.
1, 2, 3, 4, Gun Massacres could be knocking at ones school doors. Since 2011 school shootings and other related crimes have been increasing. The two articles goals are to show that the NRA (National Rifle Association) has been selling high leveled guns to anybody without needing a permit. The two articles are both saying how easy it is to access guns without needing a background check. The article “We Call BS” is written by Emma Gonzalez and the article “Guns In America” is written by Bloomberg. Furthermore, the goals of the two articles is to show how easy it is to access guns in America.
Arras Sanchez 2AbstractThe violence of guns has become one of the most popular topics in the United States for quite some time now. People need to know facts and statistics on how greatly firearms are affecting our economy, environment, and our homes. Families are being devastated with their loss of loved ones. Reducing gun violence will decrease the death rate per year. Study’s has shown over the years death rates have been caused by: home invasion, accidental shootings, homicide, massive shootings, suicide, self-defense and/ or unintentional shooting. There are ways to prevent gun violence, but the truth is there will always be a loophole when it comes to firearms. Instead of creating more gun control laws, the government should enforce the ones we already have in place. For example, finger printing gun owners, requires gun safety training, ammo purchase limitation, etc. These are some laws that are in place, but are not currently being enforced which should since it’s for the protection of the people. Government needs to improve on restricting large capacities of firearms being sold and purchase. As well, have additional safety training and/ or renewing licenses for existing gun owners.
The latest mass shootings in aurora, colorado and newtown connecticut leave us all liberal and conservative, republican and democrat appalled and disgusted at the carnage now some people want to place the blame for this horror on things like 30 round magazines or semi automatic rifles. we want to blame something anything we can control, but what we really want to ban is violence and murder and insanity and we dont talk about that though because deep in our hearts each of us knows that violence and murder and insanity are built into the human condition and likely always will be you know there are 2 kinds of animals in this world, no one watches a leopard chase down a gazelle and denies that the gazelle has a right to use its hooves and horns to protect itself from the predator but there are people all around the country who deny that same right to self defense to other human beings such people seem to think that the way to stop the leopard is to cut the horns off the gazelle, that by somehow making it easier the predator the predator will simply go away my friends this is insane. When you make it easier for the predator you get more predators. So lets start with the so called assault weapons more properly known as semi automatic rifles, in 2011 the total firearm murders came to 8,583 according to the FBI. Now during that time the total murders committed by rifles alright, not just semi-automatic rifles, were 323 that's 3 percent of all murders hammers and clubs kill half
Another policy that could be put in place to help prevent spree killings are gun violence restraining orders. These would help with public offenses, but mainly private offenses and since private offenses are more common, it would hopefully lower a number of offenses. Gun violence restraining orders prohibit a person from buying or possessing a gun for a specified amount of time. This is an emergency legal step for potential victims and concerned family members. If they believe that someone who is close to them is dangerous and could hurt them or others, then they can petition the court for the restraining order. Family members and close friends are most likely to know if a person has violent behavior and could potentially harm others (Crockett, E., 2017). There is not much the law can do behind closed doors unless someone speaks out to them and this is a great way for them to do so.
A cartoon is defined as a simple drawing showing the features of its subjects in a humorously exaggerated way especially a satirical one in a newspaper of magazine, according to Wikipedia. In general, cartoons are often taken lightly, but not only are cartoons merely for entertainment; they are also powerful means of communication. Being that cartoons are created to showcase or relay a message to different groups of people they can often tend be very opinionated.
Barack Obama, president of the United States, and Congressional Democrats have tried again and again to reduce and regulate gun sales and perform thorough background checks for gun sales in the response of mass public shootings. One recent proposition was made to prevent social security beneficiaries from owning a gun because they thought that social security beneficiaries did not have mental capacity to manage their own affairs. Republicans harshly criticized this proposition because they thought that there is no direct connection between financial stability and gun safety. “The United States of America is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient commonsense gun safety laws – even in the face of repeated mass killing.” Mr. Obama said. (Shastry).
The active shooter, one who is involved in a shooting on an academic campus that is not in self-defense, has been at the forefront of news outlets over the last four years (Sanburn, 2015). There has been a marked uptick in the number of shooting incidents, including the notable event at Virginia Tech in 2007. There were 75 shootings on college campuses spanning the years 2013 to 2015 (Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, 2017). Umpqua Community College and Northern Arizona University were the most notable active shooter incidents during this time, totaling 11 deaths and 12 injuries (Sanburn, 2015). By examining the campus and its current policies and procedures, we can ensure a safe educational environment for students and staff.
