President Theresa Two Bulls declared a state of emergency for P.R.I.R.

over increased suicide attempts. "Right now we're just trying to get a

handle on it," said Angie Sam, director of the tribe's Sweet Grass Suicide

Prevention Program. The organization works to reach youths at risk of

suicide and to educate them and their families across the reservation.

"We're working with families of those who are at risk of suicide…None of

the recent suicides are believed to be alcohol or drug-related." She pointed

out that other longstanding social issues may be contributing factors, such

as poverty, bullying, or tenuous family relationships. Anyone who may be

thinking about suicide is encouraged to seek help. Everyone should watch

the warning signs in others. These warning signs include talking about

suicide, talking about feeling hopeless, being a burden, extreme mood

swings, risky behaviors, or an increase in alcohol or drug use. The teen
