The way a bill is passed into a law is by going through Congress, specifically through the three different branches of the United States government. The first stage that the bill needs to go through is for a member of the Congress to come up with the idea of said-bill and propose it to the other members of Congress to become a law. The bill gets sent to the head of either the Senate or House of Representatives, depending on which part of Congress the creator of the bill is in. The Head Clerk of the Senate or House then reviews the bill and, if necessary, sends it to the "appropriate specialized committee" to be reviewed even further. There a many different specialized committees under Congress that are used to review proposed bills that may fall directly under or close to the area in which this committee is focused on. The Sedition Act is one of the most controversial laws in American Government history. The reason that this law is so controversial is because it can be easily argued as going against the First Amendment, specifically our right to Freedom of Speech. This law states that prohibits the writing, speaking, and/or publishing of any sort of speech that goes against any branch of the government. This is an obvious and blunt violation of the First Amendment, but because of the fact they Judicial Review from the Supreme Court wasn’t used I the law making process yet, the law was able to be passed as long as the president approved of the law. The fact that this is still a law in our government is disgraceful to the United States. It goes directly against our Constitution and I believe that it should have been appealed and overturned when judicial review
