Someone's reputation often depends on his work, behavior, and achievements. Reputation is the opinion or beliefs that people generally have about a person based on his past. Some people see the Dalai Lama as an evil person and the others see him as a kind and peaceful person. He has a good reputation in the West. However, Chinese people hate him and accuse him of hypocrisy. So the Dalai Lama has two different reputations.

The Dalai Lama is the Tibetans’ political and spiritual leader. He is the most important leader in Tibet. The Dalai Lama is a monk of the Tibetan Buddhism. The 14th and current Dalai Lama is Tenzin Gyatso. Tenzin Gyatso was born Lhamo Thondup on July 6, 1935, in Taktser, China. He has been a monk all his life.

He has been successful in gaining western sympathy and support. To many people in the West, the Dalai Lama is a peaceful man who has a wise mind. A number of western universities awarded him honorary degrees. The Dalai Lama has met with many western leaders and has held talks about politics and religion and he has visited many western countries. He is the writer of hundreds of books and they are available in English and some other languages. He also made a lot of advertisements and appearances in the West. The Dalai Lama has received many awards and one of them is the Nobel Peace Prize that he received in 1989. The Dalai Lama has a charismatic personality as most of the people described. Some western people find Buddhism an attractive religion because of the questioning practicing. Buddhist practices such as meditation are popular and widespread. The Dalai Lama is the most important lama for the Tibetans, and also their most important figure as a religious leader. The Dalai Lama is known as an effective speaker and he has a significant charismatic status. Westerns, who don’t know a lot of the Dalai Lama’s tradition, see the personal aspect of his charisma inspiring. Unlike Tibetans who see his personal aspect is less important than his position as the Dalai Lama. There are two contrasting views to Tibet; the Chinese portray contemporary Tibet as an area where there is freedom of religion.
