The Psychology of Games and Gamers What is a Gamer? This question is thrown around today with more accusations and people trying to defend themselves than anyone had thought possible before. A gamer used to be someone who simply played games, but now it 's been branched off into so many different types of gamers. The main types I will be focusing on are as follows: The Casual Gamer - Someone who primarily plays casual games or plays games less frequently than others. The Core Gamer - A player with a wider range of interests than a casual gamer. More likely to play different types of games. The Hardcore Gamer- Players that are usually very competitive, usually are tech savvy, prefer to play games that have depth and complexity. The Pro Gamer - Players that play on a professional level, usually deeply study one specific genre or type of game to master and play it in competitions. These types of gamers are the main builds of the gaming community, and, without them, the community of gaming as we know it would be non-existent. These gamer types tend to play different types of games stretching from adventure, action, role-playing games (RPGs), and many more. The list is actually too long for me to name in this one paper. Scientifically, each type of game has been shown to help people on a physiological level. First-person shooting games, for instance, have been shown to increase reflexes, hand-eye coordination, and multitasking skills, while RPGs
