Over the past year, I have served my school and community in many different ways. Whether it be through volunteering or participating in organizations that work to make changes in the lives of others. I try to stay involved in my environment. Currently, I am a student at Rockford Lutheran High School. With the multitude of clubs, my school offers, I am able to interact with other club members to promote student participation. Every year we participate in drives and fundraisers. In Key Club, each year we put together solider boxes. We collect a variety of small items and send hand packaged boxes to our fighting soldiers, as a gift for christmas. Other drives that I partake in are the canned food drives for the local food pantries, and the clothing drives to give winter clothing to those less fortunate. This helps to provide this vulnerable population with warmth during the cold winter months. …show more content…
This past month we put on a global awareness project. My society advisor and I discovered this foundation, The Pulsera Project. The organization sought to help individuals working in textiles gain freedom from their poor conditions and give them respectable jobs making bracelets, referred to as pulseras, that are sold all over the world. So, we joined immediately in the cause selling bracelets at our school, telling our peers about the Nicaraguan workers lives, and helping to provide financial relief. Our society decided to not use this as a fundraiser, but instead send all our profits back to the Pulsera Project. Not only do I help others through clubs, my high school sports teams I play for also run sports camps over the summer to help smaller child learn the game and improve their skills. The players, like me, help mold and sculpt the younger generations of
I went to high school in Edmonton where I was VP of Key Club, on the fundraising committee of grad council, and involved in a bunch of clubs at school. I'm passionate about community service and I believe that it s very beneficial for personal and professional growth. I received the Seymour Schulich community service award and I plan to continue being involved in the
Over the past two years (2014-2016) I have participated in the National Junior Honors Society. As a member, I commit to completing community service and to learning among my peers in order to develop into a superior leader. I have taken part in activities such as fundraisers, team building activities, and several forms of community services such as working in a soup kitchen, daycares and organizing social events. Recently, I volunteered for a week as a vendor at a temple in Tacoma, raising money for the establishment during the Cambodian New Year festival.
While volunteering at Discovery Challenger I have exclusively worked with a blind man named Geno. My service to the Discovery Challenger Program has positively affected the community in that the athletes that required a helper were able to have me as one despite the limited number of volunteers who helped the athletes. Another community service I committed myself to while in high school was the club Life is Delicious. Life is Delicious is a club that between two and three times Year members of the club cook a warm meal at the high school, and then some go to the St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter in Waterbury. At the end of my sophomore year I was named Co-President of the club. As a member of the club I went to all of the cooking and serving activities and was able to help the homeless of Waterbury by giving them a warm meal. The most impactful service I performed in my opinion was during my junior year when I was the organizer for the Penguin Plunge. During my junior year I thought that it would be a good idea for the basketball team to do the Penguin Plunge in order to raise money for Special Olympics Connecticut as I had done so in the previous two years. So, I approached the athletic director
Throughout my senior year, I was captain of the cheer team and the basketball team. I really enjoyed leading them through the challenges and the successful times. Also, every other Friday I travel to our elementary school with some of my fellow classmates, and help the teachers and students out with any necessary tasks. We work one on one with the students, and sometimes we just listen to them read and pronounce words correctly. I think that I serve my community with great effort.
The great Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” I deem this to be a vital question that everyone should ask themselves. I wholeheartedly agree that serving others impacts your community in a positive light. Therefore, I've made it my duty to volunteer with students throughout my community. This is because I’m very proactive about seeking change in the area I grew up in.
A community service where I continually volunteer my time is the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Homework Club. I have been a part of the club for three years with the Holy Family Catholic Elementary School as a Mentor. The Homework Club is a after-school mentoring program offered to boys and girls in grades 3 to 8 who require academic, social and emotional support, and would benefit from one-to-one homework mentoring with a high school student volunteer. The Homework Club meets for one hour every week after school. Currently, I have volunteered around 80 hours with this program.
I have been very involved with serving my community throughout my life, and more so in the past few years because of my experience in the International Baccalaureate program and its service requirements.
To begin, being involved in the betterment of the community will always be an act that I wish to be a part of for the rest of my life. In my high school career, I was able to become involved in service leadership during my senior year. As the treasurer of the Nature Coast Technical High School's National Beta Club chapter, the president and I work closely together to fundraise, collect food, and volunteer in the community. Although Beta Club does many volunteering events throughout the year, the biggest project I will help lead this year is Spring Hill's annual Relay-for-life festival. For this festival, it is my duty to fundraise, organize our booth, and help volunteer. All of the proceeds that our club earns during this festival will go to
Serving my community and giving back to others has always been a huge part of my life. From a young age, my parents instilled in me a love of helping those around me and a want to make my community a better place. One of the biggest areas of community service I have been a part of is at my local church and through my high school’s mini cheer camp.
I am able to show my passion of service above self through many different activities I have been involved in within my four years as a Eureka High School student. With being involved in National Honors Society and Key Club I have chosen two clubs that requires community service to be apart of. By taking leadership roles in both organizations it has helped me build my character and see that community service is not just for hours, for a club, or for looking
I have also tried to reach out to my community.During my sophomore and junior year,I volunteered to help with special olympics.Special
I am always working to improve myself and my community. I may not be a part of every organization in school, but I focus my energy on the organizations I am in. I am in TSA, Technology Student Association, a club centered around technology and engineering. We help other clubs with technical aspects of their projects and teach others about technology. I am also
While in high school, I have been able to give back to my community through my
In addition to school, I also volunteer for organizations that raise money for the homeless, wounded and active veterans, when I have additional time. I cannot think of a more worthy group of people to devote my spare time to. I also appreciate spending time with my family as much as possible. Numerous times my entire family has volunteered to help raise money for veterans.
Throughout my life and academic career, I have continually provided service to the community in various different ways. My first such experience came during my time in elementary school when, each year, myself, and many of my classmates, would engage in a day of service on Martin Luther King Day. We made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a local food cupboard, played bingo and did arts and crafts with elderly residents in a retirement community, and even played music for nursing home residents. These early year activities introduced me to the idea of giving back and helping those in need and since that point, I have continued to prove my dedication to serving the community.
