The purpose of schooling should be to shape and mold students academically and socially. I also believe that teachers should teach to a student’s full understanding of the topic. In some cases students are only learning the basics and not enough to successfully complete a state exam. How much are students actually learning if they only know the basics of a topic? Are teachers actually teaching to the test if the students don’t even understand? Students learn when the teachers show compassion for the subject and have the willingness to actually teach the lesson to its full potential. Students also learn best when the teacher has a positive attitude towards the subject and the students. Patience is another key quality that helps students to learn. This is why when I am a teacher I will make it a point to have patience and a positive attitude. I understand that all students are different and each and every one of them is unique, which is why, as a teacher, I will do my best I make myself accessible to every individual child’s special needs.
At some point in time we were all students sitting at a desk learning our ABC’s, learning how to problem solve, and learning many more topics that all prepared us for the real world that which we live in today. As the years progress, and we (the students) get older, the curriculum changes, the teachers retire and new ones take their place, and the styles of teaching changes.
