The reading presents three hypotheses to explain the causes of the strange sounds known as “ The Quaker”. The lecture does not agree with the author. He cast doubt on several beliefs that are presented in the text. To begin with, the reading avers that the Oscar Whales are one of the causes. The author mentions that the patrolling area f the submarine is their inhabit. On contrary, the speaker reckons that the suspected area was the whales inhabit, but it is not possible to record the sound from long distance. As the whales stay near the surface of the water and the submarines swim near the surface of ocean. He also points that the recorded sound presented that the source was near the submarine. Hence the lecturer dismisses the reading claim.
The central theme of both John Winthrop’s “City Upon a Hill” and Jonathan Edward’s “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”, is the prospect of religion in one’s everyday life influencing their future. In order to build up their ideas about acting in a way that pleases the Lord, both these authors use repetition, diction, allusions, and metaphors as a way to build momentum in their speech as they allude to teachings of the bible and their diction install a notion of uncertainty. However, while Winthrop uses his notion of uncertainty to give the audience a sense of security, in their endeavors to the Americas, with the prospect of religion, Edwards does the opposite and makes the audience fear God even more as he talks about his
In Warren St. John’s Outcasts United, the reader witnesses the struggles Luma Mufleh faces as she tries to get a suitable soccer field for her soccer teams composed of refugee immigrants from nations ravaged with war and terrorism; the conflicts she faces allows the reader to examine the changes (or lack thereof) that are happening/have happened across the world, even in our own hometowns. Without a doubt, the people of Clarkston are reluctant to accept the change that was beginning to envelope the town and that is the attitude that exemplifies the xenophobia that locks the closed minds of many Americans today. Truly, Luma would have had fewer problems acquiring the field necessary for the team to safely practice had they been a group of white

1. “When it healed, and Jem’s fears of never being able to play football were assuaged, he was seldom self-conscious about his injury.”
The Mt. The Peace Missionary Baptist Association of Western NC was established around the year 1890. The earliest recorded history is derived from the 44th annual session’s minutes. The Association was held at the Gold Hill Baptist Church, Lowesville, NC on October 16-19, 1912.
My unusual feeling upon my arrival is proving to have some validity but not what I had first thought. After examining my data collected I’ve come to the conclusion that the devil does not reside in Salem only the idea and the mass accusations are nothing more then just that accusations which seem to have no validity. I have been responsible for the killing of innocent people and for that I will pay. But for now I don’t feel right prosecuting the innocent citizens of Salem, I feel the time I’ve spent here has done nothing to destroy the moral fabric of the town.
The Sixteenth Street Baptist Church was a popular meeting place for rights (people who use action and strong words to support or oppose something) in Birmingham, Alabama. Like many other churches during the 1960's, it gave a safe place for African Americans to crowd together and worship. That sense of safety was shattered on the morning of September 15th, 1963 when a few members of the Ku Klux Klan planted nineteen sticks of dynamite in the basement of the church, killing four innocent girls (Bracks 289). Some would argue the truly awful act directly sped up (a process) the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because it showed the world no place was safe from the tension caused by the (the right to vote, to free speech, to fair and equal
Church, temple, sanctuary, or the Lords’s house, these are just a few names that your average person might call the place you come to worship God, I have always called it home. The Church I have been attending, Memorial Baptist Church, which is also where I attend high school, I have been attending since I was the age of three years old. Moving to the area that my family lives in now, I do not believe is any accident. At the age of two years old, my father was stationed in Tennessee for the military. After passing away from brain cancer, my Mother moved my two older sisters and me to Killeen Texas, to be closer to her family. Memorial Baptist Church was the only church we have ever been members of since moving to Texas, it has always felt like
I am writing to you today to tell you about an exciting opportunity I have through my school, Liberty Christian. My senior class will be going on a mission trip to COSTA RICA from Saturday, May 6, 2017 to Friday, May 12th. During this time, we will be working with the mission agency SCORE International in order to serve God by serving the Costa Rican people. We will have opportunities to serve and minister to the people we meet through various service opportunities, such as: children’s ministry, preaching, drama, and humanitarian aid distribution.
In the first passage titled "What to Do about Underwater Noise" it is stated, "It interfered with their communications and caused them to change their diving and feeding patterns." Since whales interact by sending sound waves to one another the intensity of underwater noise has interfered with the whales' ability to hear each other. Scientists also believe that underwater noise may even
Annie Dillard’s effective use of language and style reflect and further the opinions she voices within “Pilgrim at Tinker Creek”. She knows how to reel the audience in and then strengthens her points with such detailed descriptions of every little thing. A common theme throughout this classic is about seeing and gaining the ability to be able to see things for their beauty and what they really are. Dillard also wants her audience to see the things that are usually not noticeable or sometimes even taken for granted. Things such as objects, events and creatures, Dillard does a great job at making the words on the pages jump out and come to life. She first points out the tomcat. She vividly describes how this big bloody-pawed tomcat would lay
Another very interesting thing that I have found out in this essay by Regina Blackstock is a case that occurred in 1962 when some Lockheed Aircraft Corporation scientists erected a barrier across a channel with strong microphones. When the dolphins approached it, clicking noises were heard. The dolphins gathered into a group in nearby shallow
The party was in Quaker Square and they hosted the party in a big hall. In the hall, there were tables and each table represent a country. I started walking around the tables and learn about each country. For example, I went to China table and they started talking to us about China. Also, they wrote my name in Chinese. In addition, each country shows what are the traditional clothes in the country. My country which is Saudi Arabia had a table at the party. They had some music from my country, some tradition clothes to let other students try them on, and some pictures of my country.
The intention of the Quakers was to rehabilitate the offender and bring him/her to repentance understanding that all answers came through God. As the laws changed abolishing the use of capital punishment for any crime other than first-degree murder, Quaker ideology recognized that the opportunity to rehabilitate individuals incarcerated or their crimes would make them better citizens and not merely institutionalized individuals when they were released. “It was believed that penitence; pastoral counseling and reasonable discipline would correct antisocial behavior” (Bartollas, 2013). The goal of the institution was solitude as this would provide the individuals time for reflection
