Has there ever been anyone who isn’t afraid? In The Ravine, Vinny is afraid. But his friends don’t act like it. They seem brave, but I don’t believe it. Vinny and Joe-Boy are 15 year old Hawaiian boys and are best friends. They’re going to the ravine to cliff jump and swim. Two weeks and one day before their visit, a boy named Butchie died. The two friends, Vinny and Joe-Boy, are different in many ways, but similar in a few ways.
Vinny is weak. He couldn’t stand up to his friends. PG:7-He thought that if he told his friends that his mom wouldn’t let him go, his friends would laugh at him. This made him think he is weak.Vinny is also scared. Didn’t want to jump off at risk of death PG:11-12 Vinny was scared to jump, because he might die. He is also regretting disobeying his mother. He is scared at that time, but he then gets “peace”.Vinny is slow Joe-Boy told him to go faster to the pond in the ravine. PG:5 When they were going to the pond in the ravine, Joe-Boy told him to go faster and “Hurry it up”. So I infer that Vinny is slow.
Joe-Boy is pretty strong Told people what to do PG:7 Joe-Boy is more like the boss of the group and tells everybody what to do. No one can convince him to do anything. So based on clues, Joe-Boy is strong. Joe-Boy is also very brave. He literally Jumped off cliff into water at risk of death PG:8-9 He said that he

No one can convince him to do anything. So based on clues, Joe-Boy is strong. Joe-Boy is also very brave. He literally Jumped off cliff into water at risk of death PG:8-9 He said that he jumped “man style”. The fall could injure Joe-Boy, or maybe even kill him. This tells me Joe-Boy is brave. Joe-Boy also fast. Joe-Boy tells Vinny to go faster to the pond in the ravine. PG:5 He could also be impatient, but i think he is fast, but not able to because there is no room. Hence, Joe-Boy is
How would you feel about jumping off a 50 foot cliff?scared?brave?Or excited?Vinny and Joe-boy are both characters in a story called”The Ravine”.They are best friends who live in Hawaii and go to a ravine to cliff jump and swim.there was a boy who died two weeks and one day before they arrived. Joe-boy and vinny are different in many ways and they are similar in some ways.
In the first chapters I have learned that Joe was dishonest and through his action and choices and this tells me this character cannot be trusted. One reason why Joe is dishonest, is that Joe told Mrs. Robinson (Jackie’s wife) and other people that he wasn't a time traveler even thought Joe was. Another reason is that when Joe got back from the journey Joe didn't tell his teacher that he went back in time Joe said he found it from the baseball cards and lied when he should have been honest although he didn't want people to know. The last reason why Joe is dishonest, is when Joe came back from the first time that he didn't tell his mom that he got chased down from the cops.
Ponyboy is gold. He is helpful and smart, but he’s a greaser and well that’s fine to some people...to others it’s just not acceptable. Even though Ponyboy and Johnny hit the road after Bob was killed he still deserved better. Ponyboy had potential and he is going places, I can tell. Ponyboy has had many losses in his life, Mom, Dad, Johnny, and Dally, but he is strong. That’s all he is going to need to be.
He was not a man who went looking for trouble, but if trouble came looking for him or someone he loved, I would always put my money on Joe, even when he was 75 years old.
Joe’s understanding of war in Johnny Got His Gun is very similar to Boy’s in the sense that he doesn’t really understand what he would be fighting for in a battle. One example of this is when Joe is at the train station with his family awaiting his send-off to war. During this send off Joe didn’t really question why he was going to war or what he would be doing in war. He went without and hesitation which shows that his
Have you ever had a friend who was mean to you and argued with you? Vinny and Joe-Boy are both characters in a story called “The Ravine”. Joe-Boy and Vinny are different in many ways and they are similar in some ways.
“Hills Like White Elephants”, by Ernest Hemingway, is a short story published in 1927 that takes place in a train station in Spain with a man and a woman discussing an operation. Most of the story is simply dialogue between the two characters, the American and Jig. This couple is at a critical point in their lives when they must decide whether or not to have an abortion. Certain themes arise from this story such as choices and consequences, doubt and ambiguity, and how men and women relate. Hemingway also uses many examples of symbolism in “Hills Like White Elephants”, including descriptions of the surrounding scenery, the hills themselves, and the station where the action takes place.
He had never done that before, he learnt to resist and fight. Meanwhile, he also became very negative.“I used to make A's in English, mostly because my teacher made us do compositions all the time. I mean, I know I don't talk good English ……Now I was lucky to get a D on a composition.”(Hinton Chapter 12),his grades began to drop.He could get A’s in English before, whereas, after Johnny's death, he was grateful that he got a D on his composition. Therefore, the Ponyboy after Johnny's death had a huge contrast to his previous personality and
Joe had to overcome the fact that he didn’t have the training, the money, or the connections of the other boys. He was forced to forge his own path in life, which he did very successfully. This didn’t mean that Mr. Rantz was fine with his poverty. In fact, Joe was annoyed that he “continued to feel like everybody’s poor cousin. With the weather remaining cool, he still had to wear his ragged sweater to practice almost every day, and the boys still teased him continuously about it” (Brown 91). Joe shows how he wishes he had the life of his crewmates. Joe isn’t a complainer, but he is jealous of the boys clothes. He wishes that he could While Joe is fighting for his spot on the team, he also is fighting for his life-a stark contrast to the other boys on the team.He has to overcome the over abundance of obstacles for a homeless college student-lack of money, constant source of food, and a lack of solid parenting. In Joe’s mind life would be so much easier if he had what the other boys had, and he’s right-it probably would be easier. But Joe overcomes the difference in social class and income level to be a vital member of the rowing
When he was little his mom died, and his dad remarried to a woman named Thula. Thula did not like joe and she kicked him out when he was only ten years old. “She declared that she would not live under the same roof as joe, that Harry must choose between him and her. She said Joe would have to move out if she were to stay in a godforsaken place. Joe was only ten years old” (Brown 86,87). I never could understand how someone could kick a child out of the house and force them to live on their own when they are ten years old. As Joe grew up the more he needed his family, but his family was not there for him, at least not his biological family. When Joe made the rowing team that's the day that he got a new family, even if he did not know it at the time. So was Joyce, a beautiful girl who loved joe and they were going to get married and start a family of their own. “When joe stopped playing they talked about what it would be like when they were married and had a hoe and maybe kids” (Brown 102). Making the rowing team and meeting and falling in love with Joyce might have been the best thing that has ever happened to Joe. As soon as everything start going good for Joe, Thula gets an infection and dies. Not that it was a good thing that she died, it was very sad, but it brought Joe and his dad back together again. Harry wanted Joe to move back home with him and the kids. “I’m going to build a house where we can all live
On the contrary, in his poem, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” Robert Frost suspects that each and every individual has a timely death and that people should strive to fulfill their commissions before giving in to death. Although still elaborate, his poem is a lot less emotional poem than Dylan Thomas’s “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.” Frost primarily utilizes imagery to illustrate an experience to astutely share his beliefs. In short, his poem is about a gentleman travels into the woods with his horse one night, as described in the poem’s title. The man suddenly comes to know that he cannot afford to pass because he has something to fulfill before he gives into death.
Vinny and Joe-Boy are similar they are also different too maybe more than the other but still the same and in the same way different in more ways Vinny is a scared, weak, good friend.Joe-Boy is a brave, strong, but yet is a bad friend
Joe brought a moral side to the novel and gave the readers relief from tough characters in the novel. To show a contrast between Joe and the other characters in the novel, Dicken made Joe a simple, content guy, who does not focus on money nor society’s standards during his time. No matter how Pip treats Joe, he is always there and continues to show Pip how much he cares and loves him. After Pip has grown up, Joe still listens to him and he still confides in Joe. As the theme of social class continues to rise in the novel, Joe excluded himself, by being true to himself and doing good, despite having little money. To demonstrate, in the novel, Joe states, “But if you think as Money can make compensation to me for the loss of the little child—what come to the forge—and ever the best of friends.” Here Joe lets Jagger know how much Pip meant to him and how little he cares about money.
Joe is not just a companion but also in some ways a paternal and even
The audience can relate to Joe and feel sympathy for him because he was a good man who did many great things for his family and in the end paid the ultimate price. Towards the end of the play, Joe's son Chris anguishes over the fatally flawed decision made by his father, thus eliciting the sympathy of the audience. However, this is not enough to detract from the audience relating to Joe as a
