In the article, Education and Schooling: You Can Have One Without the Other, Mwalimu J. Shujaa of the State University of New York discusses the importance of learning that there is a difference between schooling and education. Can education exist without schooling or vice versa? Shujaa’s article gives an insight into the conjunction of schooling and education and how they impact the culture of African Americans.

Contrary to what many people think, the best education takes place according to an individual 's needs rather than at the most prestigious school. In his book, The Education Apocalypse: How it Happened and How to Survive It, Glenn Harlan Reynolds goes into depth about the failure of the education system. Reynolds appropriately explains how there are problems with the education system and how it will continue to fall; he then presents ideas on how fix the issue.

Neil Postman wrote, “The End of Education” which he compares technology to religion and how everyone thinks technology will be the answer to everything. In his comparison of religion to technology, he said,” important distinctions are made among the different meanings of “belief,” but at some point it becomes far from asinine to speak of the god of technology” (Postman 38). In “Reliance on Online Materials Hinders Learning Potential for Students” by David Smith the author argues online education has some benefits students are also able to suffer. Smith begins his article with stating students are lucky for being able to have the amount of access they have to receive education unlike past generations. He goes on by stating “this variety has begun to work its way into academia, as well; more and more, it seems, organized instruction is moving beyond the classroom and into cyberspace” (Smith, Par 3). The “traditional” educational experience is slowly being taken over by the technology world.

Freedman’s article published in 2007 titled “New Class(room) War: Teacher vs. Technology”, he shares with readers that it is becoming increasingly more difficult for teachers to teach because students are easily distracted by gadgets during lessons while Matt Britland’s article, “What is the future of technology in education?” published in 2013, is encouraging and promoting schools and educational institutions to use the cloud. Generally, Freedman’s article featured in The New York Times seems more credible and convincing as compared to Britland’s article in The Guardian because he provides an impartial view on the topic and he uses a diversity of sources to validate his points while Britland brings in his personal views and uses only a trail he conducted on his own to sustain his views.

The World Wide Web had revitalized education by making it easier, and more efficient to teach. Before the creation of the Internet, the most popular and widely used way of teaching was mainly with books and lectures, limiting the speed and efficiency of information to learn, while also limiting the number of units given in a school year. With the Internet, teachers were able to discover and teach topics easily, leading to quicker lessons and topics as they use the web browser and online sources to benefit the speed of the lessons as well as better the students in different ways to educate. In addition to teachers using the Internet, students also greatly used it to help with homework, to fully understand a topic, to help with projects, and to communicate with their teachers. While Britland feels that we should embrace technology, Freedman feels otherwise. Britland believes that the future of education is in technology, in the form of cloud and advocates that inculcating technology into our education system is the way to go while Freedman believes that bringing technology into the classroom will act as a source of distraction for the students and shows the battle of technology versus teachers.

With high speed internet available to potential students of all economic levels, schools are opting to implement online classes into their traditional teaching curriculum. As a result, our society is divided in two different ways of thinking on the education. Some believe the modern method is better than the traditional method of teaching. Personally, I believe both methods should balance one another instead of attempting to substitute one another; this way their purpose of educating will be far more successful.

There is possible dehumanisation from continued use of online teaching meaning that the repetitive nature of connecting to the Internet to do work can lead to people being seen more as automatons than people.
