b) Author provides the reasons to help those in need. Throughout the three chapters, he is convinced that helping the people in poverty is what God wants us to do, but the church has failed to help out the people in need. Blue states that “the Lord himself is found among poor” (p. 18). The author provides many different supports from the Scripture. In addition, “Jesus is very clear that concern for those in need is a litmus test of faith, not to be failed by any who hope to enter his kingdom” (p. 23). The reason why Jesus came is “to bring good news to the poor” (p. 26). God “has not forgotten about the poor,” and “the kingdom of God is not just about us” (p. 23). The Bible is clear on helping the people with need is a “personal responsibility, it also affirms our corporate responsibility to help one another” (p. 26). God wants us to live “according to his word” (p. 35). God is “interested in our being of practical help to those in need and destroying the things that oppress people” (p. 36). Isaiah 58 “tells us that the Lord wants us to share our bread with the hungry, bring the homeless poor into our homes, share our clothing with those who need some and not hide ourselves from the rest of humanity” (p. 43). For these reasons the author believes that Christians are called to serve the people in poverty.
The author says that we are to help those in need, and we can accomplish so by providing direct relief and teaching the skills. He feels obligated to direct relief because
There are times whenever someone you know just needs assistance and since they are your friends you should help them out. Giving to charity and even helping strangers in need is what Christ calls us to do because some people were not fortunate enough to have the same resources that you were. God does not condemn wealthy individuals since it is considered a blessing, but states that we should help out the needy and less fortunate and help relieve poverty. As stated on page 44 “After the commitment to one’s spouse(s) and family, the Old Testament makes it clear that God’s people have a special responsibility for others, specifically the widow, the orphan, the poor, and the oppressed and the stranger,” (Stapleford, 2015). People sin because we were all born from sin, but God does not like whenever a person neglects the poor and less
of oppression, understanding the central core of the Gospels as Jesus' identification with the poor
The core message of the Parable of the Sheep and Goats is that God’s people will love others (“Matthew, Chapter 25). The message is called to help those in need. Men and women cannot ignore the plight of human beings suffering from homelessness. People must work together in order to meet our own needs and also work in order to have something to give to those in need. The good works will result from our relationship to the shepherd (Harrington). The grace stucture, Coalition of Homelessness, is an example of this passage. It has developed and implemented effective solutions to New York’s homelessness crisis. Coalition for Homelessness has provided stable housing through shelter, moving them into permanent housing, and implementing assistance programs to keep them in their housing. The Coalition is following the message of the Last Judgment passage by helping those in need and working together in the community to give basic needs to other

Luke’s Gospel greatly emphasizes the social justice aspect of Christian living. Throughout the third book in the New Testament, the story and history of Jesus Christ is written, and Luke preserves the many sayings of Jesus warning that those with material possessions have a
[LO 1] Augustana received $10,000 of qualified dividends this year. Under what circumstances would all $10,000 be taxed at the same rate? Under what circumstances might the entire $10,000 of income not be taxed at the same rate?
1. Chapter 1, is about introducing the Tres Camarones, the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. Also, since the people in that town didn’t like change much there are already danger roaming around like the bandidos who will be evading the town.
Ruby Payne spoke about poverty in A Framework for Understanding Poverty in a way that is helpful for my church to further understand the issue of poverty in our community. The attributes of this book will help my church to better serve and address issues regarding poverty throughout our church and throughout our community. Some of the key points that resided with my thoughts were that “poverty occurs in all races and in all countries.” (Payne, 10) As much as I believe this is common sense, common sense is not so common to everyone. There are so many stereotypes of what poverty looks like. The idea of who poverty affects has been a misleading depiction that predominantly focuses on specific racial or geographical sectors. It is
One question the book raised for me is how do we know when we helped enough to be saved and live in God’s kingdom? Kraybill emphasizes the importance of being humble and help the needy. In my life, I have helped others in need and fed the hungry, but I don’t do this every chance I get. We are never going to know how much we should help others, but it would be nice if we did. Another question this book raised is if we are truly helping those in need by giving them the things they need or are we just giving them more of a reason to ask for stuff? The reason why I ask this question is because some people choose to live like they don’t have any money or food, but in reality, they do have food and money. They chose to live that lifestyle. Some people who are poor and hungry have won the lottery and in a couple of years they spent all the money and put themselves in that situation. Are we going to get the same amount of credit for helping them when they are in need, even though they put themselves in that situation? This when we just let God be the judge of that. He knows out intentions and He will deal with them when the time

(Luke 10:25-37). Jesus taught this so that Christians would treat everyone the way that they would want to be treated. In Luke 6:20-26, Jesus said. “That the poor were special to him and that their suffering would be rewarded in heaven.” He also went on to say, “The rich who ignored the suffering of the poor would be punished.” One of Jesus’ most important teachings on poverty was in Matthew 25:31-46. To the affect Jesus said “Whenever you help anyone in need you are helping me.” Christians believe that when they help someone they are helping Jesus and that they will be rewarded for it. These are the main Christian teachings on wealth and poverty.
Reverend Young addresses Christians about wealth inequality as he states that Jesus cared for the poor and consequently, followers of the faith have an obligation to do the same.
Believers are called as Christians to assist those in need and those who are struggling in their walk with Christ and life. The fatherless and widows are mentioned particularly, because they are usually neglected or oppressed. It is our jobs as Christians to help those who need help. It is our duty to surround those who are struggling with love and to provide them with assistance in their troubling time of
Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God. Many people today seem to look over the poor and needy. The people who are the poorest may be the happiest. We have to be able to look at these people and see how wonderful they really are. They may not ask for anything but when someone offers to give them something they truly do cherish it. Even if it is just a slice of bread or a pair of old shoes, or even a blanket. Today we can give to charities to help these people because somewhere someone is getting that blanket you did not want and it is the thing that is keeping him warm all winter.
