There were three mains reasons that caused the American Revolution. The three important reasons were Taxation without Representation, The Boston Tea Party and The 1st Continental Congress Meeting. Taxation without Representation is one of the reasons the American Revolution happened. The original phrase was “No taxation without Representation”. James Otis who was a lawyer in colonial Mass who thought that the phrase wasn't right so he changed it to “Taxation without Representation is Tyranny”. The British Parliament started taxing sugar in colonies in the sugar act. James Otis and other colonies didn’t agree to the sugar act and then started protesting. Things that were taxed were ships papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers and playing cards. The British Parliament also taxed the stamp act. The colonies wanted to make their own taxes. That is why Taxation without Representation is very important to causes that led to the American Revolution. Another one of the reasons that caused the American Revolution was The Boston Tea Party. The meeting started on September 5th and ended October 26th 1774. All of the colonies were involved except for Georgia because they didn’t show up. There was also the 56 delegates, George Washington, Patrick Henry, Samuel and John Adams. The meeting was held because they needed to discuss the British Intolerable acts. It was held in Philadelphia at the secret session in Carpenters Hall. The British won the war in 1763 and then the British Prime Minister controlled all the colonies, raising money and taxing. A couple of decisions that they made were to end Taxation without Representation, trade boycott with Great Britain and boycott British goods. The 1st Continental Congress Meeting was a very important event because it was the first time they were all meeting face to face to talk about the issues that we were having all
