In my role with Hygienic Smiles Dental Hygiene Office as an office assistant, I managed and organized charts and files of patients daily, to ensure that all information was accurate and up to date. I can apply this same level of attention to detail to tasks such as preparing income tax returns or even making sure that the copier never runs out of paper. Furthermore, because I highly value the confidentiality of our patients, I maintained professionalism when handling sensitive or personal information belonging to them. Working at Hygienic Smiles also tested my ability to adapt and become capable of learning new software, such as ABELdent Dental Practice Management Software used at the office or Microsoft Excel and Taxprep.
It is preferable if you are always visible when approaching a patient. Always follow the correct procedures, and never carry out any procedure you have not been trained to do and do not use equipment you have had no training on.

Nevertheless, before all this to happen, there is a process to go by and complete it accordingly. To be competitive in the medical field marketplace, all medical assistants have to be certified through the AMA. Physician assistant’s scope of practice is defined by the level of education, experience, state laws, facility policies and the supervising physician’s delegations. PAs work as a team with the supervising physician and they support the physician’s scope of practice. The Physician Assistant (PA) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) career fields were the medical fields’ response to the physician shortage that began in the 1960s, but the shortage still exists today. As the population continues to grow, the gap continues to grow as well. Medical schools were having a hard time producing as many doctors that were needed to fill in the gaps in a timely manner, leaving the medical field looking for ways they could have health care providers diagnose and treat patients, but educated in half the time of a doctor. The PA program was then born out of the military. Medical doctors watched as military doctors and medics came back, but they had no formal training except for on-the-job training. The NP program was derived from previous midwifery program. Currently, as the physician shortage is still impending more and more PAs and NPs are being hired to fill in the gaps. This is causing many questions to arise: Are they qualified?, What kind of education do they have?, and Should I feel safe?. Patients want to know that they are getting excellent care, and that their medical providers are qualified to diagnose and treat patients accurately.

Every year, an estimate of 5.9 million people dies from disease (World Health Organization, 2016). Some of these diseases are caused by bacteria, parasites, virus, trauma, mutations, and environment. Often, these medical specialists need help in treating large numbers of patients in need of care. In the 1960s, the physician assistant (PA) profession was created.in 1965, there was a noticeable shortage of physicians. Eugene A. Stead Jr., MD, of the Duke University Medical Center assembled the first class to take on the role as physician assistants. These men received medical training in fast track manner to what a physician might learn (Academic Academy of Physician Assistants Organization, 2014).The duties of a physician assistant are similar to what a physician may carry out but differ in some ways. However, high salaries and benefits of working in the medical field give reward to the employee.

I go to Windrose clinic they always dress professionally and act professionally too. When you get to the office they wear their scrubs and tie their hairs in pony. Steps you can take to create a professional appearance as a medical assistant are:
“Hair and fingernails must be clean, groomed and at appropriate length and artificial long fingernails are prohibited” (Appearance). Hair should be out of the face and up in a ponytail or bun depending on the length of the hair. Men with think beards and long hair should keep a short clean cut and also have their hair in a neat ponytail. The reason for this is to avoid possible contamination in a specimen and to avoid touching your hear or face during a procedure. Fingernails must be kept clean and short because long fingernails can harbor harmful bacteria and the medical assistant could accidently scratch one of the patients. Another thing about personal hygiene is the kind of perfume used. Strong perfumes should be avoided because it could make a patient dizzy or uncomfortable. Keeping your mouth clean is also important because the medical assistant is constantly talking face-to-face to patients, coworkers, and doctors. Having bad breath can cause the people around to feel uncomfortable, therefore, cause patients to have unpleasant
