You have spent your whole life taking care of your brother, trying to help find a cure for his disease. Everyday you have to look into the eyes of a person whose body is alive but their mind just wants to die. In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the protagonist, George, is faced with a similar situation after his best friend, Lennie, murders the wife of the antagonist, Curley. George made the decision to that because he was responsible for Lennie, he should also be the one responsible for his death in this circumstance. Euthanasia, or mercy killing, should be a legal way to end someone’s pain and suffering because it is moral and just.
The killing of Lennie, by george, was the right thing to do. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George kills Lennie. He does this because Lennie killed Curley’s wife, and George knew that he would kill Lennie slowly and painfully, so George decided to get it over with quickly and painlessly. After Lennie kills Curley’s wife, he runs away. George knew that Curley was going to want revenge on Lennie. George says to Candy, “Maybe they won’t hurt ‘im… I ain’t gonna let ‘em hurt

Euthanasia is the act of killing someone who is very sick, in order to prevent any further suffering. For example, Dr. David Dufor states, “Although they were not terminal, there was still unbearable suffering, (both psychologically) and physically,” (Gross). This shows that although the twins being talked about here weren’t going to die naturally, it was still moral because of the different types of suffering. Furthermore, “ The group argues voluntary euthanasia for people who are terminally ill would increase their quality of life by removing the stress of facing a painful death,” (Preiss). This shows that not only can euthanasia be ethical, but it can also improve quality of life by ending the patient’s pain and suffering. The decision is definitely never easy, but is is the right decision to
Active euthanasia should be permitted as a medical treatment to allow people the right to die with dignity without pain and in peace. Euthanasia, also known as assisted suicide or mercy killing, takes on many different forms. When most Americans think of euthanasia, they think of a specific form that is referred to as “active euthanasia” which means to actively do something that will end a patient’s life with or without that individual’s consent. When euthanasia is performed in an involuntary manner it is usually because the patient is comatose, unconscious, or otherwise unable to communicate whether or not they want to have their life prolonged through artificial means. In such cases, the physician makes an
At the end of Of Mice and Men, George kills Lennie after Lennie kills Curley’s wife. I think that George did the right thing by killing Lennie. Lennie had done the worst thing he had ever done, and it proved to George that Lennie really was a big danger. Lennie had caused George a lot of problems and always seemed to make mistakes that kept them on the run. Lennie never learned how to stay under control and how to keep out of trouble.
Is killing someone right or wrong? In the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck readers are conflicted with this question all around the world. George killed Lennie after Lennie accidentally killed Curley’s wife.George and Lennie had known eachother for a long time they even traveled together. George helped Lennie out of multiple situations and killing him was the best way he could think of in the instance of Lennie killing Curley’s wife.Even though Lennie and George were friends, George was justified in killing Lennie because Lennie was undisciplined and unsafe.
In the book, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, there are many human and animal deaths all throughout the book. The most significant death was when George went against his will and killed Lennie. Lennie’s death was unjustified since he was never given any opportunity to make up for it or to just run and get away. After Lennie killed Curley’s wife no one could trust him and with that the workers on the ranch believed it was Lennie’s “turn” to die. Over the course of human history there have been many unjustified deaths leading to no charge against the assailants. Such as, death row, self-defense and euthanasia, these types of deaths are all unjustified and there are many reasons to authenticate it.
In the book of mice and men George killing Lennie was justified because he did it to protect his best friend. If George didn’t kill Lennie he was going die from a painful, tortures way by Curly and the angry mob of men. When Curly saw his wife’s dead body he vows to her by saying, ”I’m gonna get him. I'm going for my shotgun. I'll kill the big son-of-a-bitch myself.
Title "The crash of the shot rolled up the hills and rolled down again” (Steinback 106). George made his decision and did what he had to do.. Euthanasia, or assisted suicide is the act of killing someone who is sick or something like that to stop them from suffering. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinback, this is shown a couple times throughout the book but is shown between George and Lennie. Lennie accidentally murders Curley’s wife, and when they find out Curley wants to get revenge and kill him. George takes charge and in order to help or protect Lennie, he had to kill him so he did that.
“Through violence, you may murder the hater, but you do not murder the hate.” Martin Luther King Jr. This quote represents that although there are people who hate others, murder will not solve this problem. As well as solving the root problem by not just ignoring it. This can be shown when pulling weeds in the garden.
After reading the novel, Of Mice & Men by John Steinbeck, I felt relieved and shocked. The novel ends with George shooting Lennie in the head because he killed the bosses sons wife. Lennie was born with a mental disability causing him to look up upon George. When Lennie killed Curry’s wife, a whole lynch mob was on the look out for him. George saw no other choice but to take Lennie out of his misery. I felt relieved because it wasn't the first time Lennie had caused a scene, previously they had to leave town because of an incident Lennie had caused. George already knew Lennie could not control himself and some point he couldn't try to control Lennie forever. In the last chapter is states “George still stared at Curley’s wife. “Lennie never done it in meanness,” he said. “All the time he done bad things, but he never done one of ‘em mean.” He straightened up and looked back at Candy. .. He said sharply, “I ain’t gonna let ‘em hurt Lennie.” George loves Lennie unconditionally, this makes him choose to kill Lennie
Murder. Euthanasia. Both result in someone killing someone else; however, euthanasia saves the person from a long, painful death. In John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, the main character, George Milton, kills his best friend Lennie Small to save Lennie from a more painful death. Lennie's death is an unavoidable mercy kill that Steinbeck gives hints about multiple times throughout the book.
In John Steinbeck's classic novella, Of Mice and Men, George makes the decision of killing Lennie because he knows it is in Lennie's best interest. His act of killing Lennie is not considered criminal. George has good intentions in killing his companion. George is trying to prevent Lennie from being tortured and from his constant desire to please George and not cause trouble. Additionally, Lennie repeatedly places himself in difficult situations, and as a result, brings George into the circumstances. There is a close friendship between George and Lennie, and George had carefully thought out whether or not he
Choosing someone’s fate is truly terrifying. George had to make the difficult decision by ending his best friend’s life. What George did for Lennie is called “mercy killing”. Mercy killing is putting an end to someone’s life to spare them from pain and suffering. In the book Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, George was looking out for Lennie and decided to end his life.
Death has a ripple effect. Having a loved character in die when in desperate times, is what The Outsiders by S.E.Hinton, and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck both prove this point from some of their main characters. Sadness, loneliness, and desperation connect all of these deaths together because it is something they all share. Guns are a symbol in these books that represents trouble for ones without them. The characters in both books primarily die from getting shot or acting gallant. A few of the deaths came from saving lives or standing up for themselves, but the deaths that came from others being killed are truly the most sorrowful ones. Dally, George’s heart, Bob, Curley’s wife, Johnny, and Lennie are the ones who died in these books
Lennie was always getting into trouble and since George can never get Lennie out of trouble, Lennie would always end up in jail where he wouldn’t survive no matter what, so to prevent Lennie from getting into trouble with the cops or Curley and the guys, he had to do the right thing. Lennie killed Curley’s wife and even though it was mainly her fault for going in there flirting with him he still should of stopped petting her hair when she told him. Who would know what Lennie would of done next. George should not be punished for something that could of saved some
In Of Mice and Men, George was right to kill Lennie. In the novel, Lennie killed a mouse, a puppy, and a woman. Lennie could have been charged with rape on two separate occasions. In Weed, Lennie grabbed a woman and ripped a part of her clothes off. At the farm, in the barn, Lennie stroked her hair and accidentally killed her. George killed Lennie, because Candy told George he wished he would have shot his own dog, Lennie killed Curley’s wife, the puppie, and the mouse, and the lynch mob would have done worse things to Lennie.
Euthanasia, which is also referred to as mercy killing, is the act of ending someone’s life either passively or actively, usually for the purpose of relieving pain and suffering. “All forms of euthanasia require an intention to accelerate death in order to benefit patients experiencing a poor quality of life” (Sayers, 2005). It is a highly controversial subject that often leaves a person with mixed emotions and beliefs. Opinions regarding this topic hinge on the health and mental state of the victim as well as method of death. It raises legal issues as well as the issue of morals and ethics. Euthanasia is divided into two different categories, passive euthanasia and active euthanasia. “There are unavoidable uncertainties in both active and
