While the MLL title is on the line in Tuolumne, in Sonora the ’Cats are trying to get in one final strong game before the beginning of the playoffs.

Sonora (14-9, 6-5) sits in third place in the MLL, and although Argonaut (19-7, 6-6 MLL) is right behind them, the Wildcats possess the tiebreaker with two head-to-head victores over the Mustangs.

Sonora has lost a number of close games this season, the most recent a 83-81 defeat at home to Summerville.

Even with a few tough losses to its name, Sonora has the ability to put up points in a big way, which is something that could push it deep into the playoffs.

The Sonora Wildcats girls’ basketball team is only one win away from wrapping up its perfect Mother Lode League season.

With a win tonight over Amador, the Wildcats will be a perfect 12-0. Sonora’s 10 game winning-streak is the longest streak in all the division IV teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section.

As of Monday night, the ’Cats are ranked as the No. 1. team in division IV, according to maxpreps.com. A win tonight in Sutter Creek would all but solititfy the top seed.

The Calaveras Redskins (20-4, 9-2 MLL) not only sit behind Sonora in the MLL standings, but also in the division IV rankings. Argonaut will be the third team to represent the MLL league in the postseason.

The only two blemishes to the Redkins record were via Sonora. If the two teams remain ranked No. 1 and No. 2, they could potentiouly meet on March 5 for the section championship at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.

The ’Skins wrap up their season tonight when the Summerville Bears head to Mike Flock Gym in San Andreas with a 7:30 p.m.
