The Roles Of Ancient Egypt's Government

Students in the US are taught briefly about ancient Egypt in elementary school and again in high school. The question is, how much do they really know? There are a lot of things to know about ancient Egypt’s government, gods/goddesses, and even about the pharaoh’s roles. Ancient Egypt’s government is divided into three main categories: the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom. The Old Kingdom’s government had the most direct control. In fact, the pharaohs had a strong government to appoint officials who they could trust to take care of workers and the Egyptians (“The Government of Ancient Egypt”). Joseph was a high official, who was appointed by the pharaoh in Genesis 41: 39- 41 which says: 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. 40 You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.” 41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” These high officials had jobs like handing out enough food for people just like in Genesis 41: 55-56, when the famine in the land began the pharaoh put Joseph in charge of the storehouse, which was full of grain …show more content…

Ancient Egypt has been known for their gods for a long time (“factbarn.com”). They worshiped many gods/goddesses because at one point there were forty-two nomes and they had their own god. When ancient Egypt came to recognize the gods they recognized those of the nomes and many more. It was difficult to tell which god was which because they could transform into different things.
