The Byzantium Empire was the Eastern addition to the Roman Empire during the Late Antiquity and The Middle Ages. Established in the Ancient Greek city Byzantion in 330 AD by the Roman Emperor Constantine as the new imperial capital of Rome. Furthermore, he had added duplicates of everything from Old Rome, such as the Coliseum and the Imperial Palace, not including the Pagan temples. The Byzantines had spoken Greek and had more Greek architecture and culture than Roman. The Byzantium Empire had survived the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century AD. Byzantine was able to remain for a thousand years before subsequently in 1453 falling to the Ottoman Turks. The Byzantium empire was a phenomenal empire lasting almost 1,200 years, it had survived all the other great empires. Much more impressive than age was the influence and reach the empire had had on civilization. Christianity, literacy, beginnings of art, literature, and architecture from the Russians, Serbs, and the Bulgarians came from the inspiration of the Byzantines in a variable degree. Up until the eleventh century, Byzantine was a dominant power, but by the mid-eleventh century, the Byzantines were faced with an eastern invasion from the recently converted Muslim Seljuk Turks. The Turks had in a short amount of time conquered most of Central Asia, including Syria, Iran, all of Mesopotamia, and Palestine. Subsequently, they were also being attacked by the Normans from the west. This resulted
Three major civilization composed the classical empire. Classical Rome, Han China, and Gupta India all thrived at one point during this era, but with success also eventually came the fall of these three empires. Taking place at different times and due to different reasons, all three started to decline and eventually were too weak to defend themselves. The fall of the Roman Empire seemed to be more complex and due the many more little problems, by they all three fell apart due to unrest and problems created that could not be solved before it was ultimately too late.
The Roman Empire fell of multiple reasons. Some say it was because leaders were corrupted or it was economic issues. The reasons that will be talked about further on are, surrounding cities invaded Rome, Christianity spread, and their borders became to hard to control.
The Byzantine Empire and Western Europe originally were part of the Roman Empire, but by the middle Ages(medieval times), they were very different, even though they did share some common traits, but by the 300's, the Byzantine Empire had far surpassed Western Europe in trade and economics and political unity, while both empires were having arguments over religion.
Much of past civilizations have endured many failures and triumphs throughout their existence. In the third century, there were many civilizations that started to flourish. One of these civilizations that started to expand was the Byzantine civilization. The Byzantine civilization, also regarded as Byzantium, was part of the Roman Empire which was divided in 395 AD. Byzantium had shared the same attitude, as the Roman Empire, toward exercising its authority over its citizens and throughout its empire. The Islamic civilization had started thrive in the fifth century. The Islamic civilization was unified together as unison by Islam and it has expanded its civilization throughout parts of Europe through jihad. Because of their expansions
The Byzantine Empire followed the Roman Empire, and it, also, seems meager in comparison. It had evolved from the Roman Empire, and because it was in the late stage that it was in, land had been lost, so in terms of size, the Roman Empire was superior to the Byzantine. The empire wasn t strong, either. At the start, the first ruler, Justinian, attempted to reconquer Roman lands, but in doing so, left his own land in ruins, and his conquests were lost right after his death. The Empire faced many enemies and was threatened constantly by them. Eventually, all land was lost except for the Constantinople, the rich and powerful capital city, and the land surrounding it.
They had been pushing since before World War I. The Indians were promised in the 1930’s that they would be granted independence but
Following the decline of the Western Roman Empire in 476 CE, a new empire rose up in the ashes. This new empire, the Byzantine Empire, was a culmination of Western Roman cultures and tradition, yet, it also contains many distinctive features. Originating from the same empire, the two empires display similar cultural roots.
Many events played large roles in the middle ages. The fall of the Western Roman Empire occurred when the invading army named the Visigoths invaded Rome. For three days, they destroyed everything in their paths. Western Rome did not have effective royal progression. They set up officers as rulers, who were immediately removed by adversary petitioners. The reasons why Western Rome fell includes multiple invasions by Barbarian tribes, economic hardship, being too reliant on slave labor, government corruption and political instability, and lastly Christianity became popular and the traditional values of Rome were lost. Another important event was whenever Charlemagne became an emperor in Western Rome. In his quest of becoming an emperor, he became King of the
Legalism made people want to follow all rules to avoid harsh punishments. People also wanted to because they didn’t want to bring dishonor to their family. This led to a stable society because everyone followed laws and stayed in order.
The Roman Empire is well known throughout the world. Rome is known for many things, like being one of the longest lasting empires and its progressive ways of thinking for the time. Both of those reasons are true, however the Roman government was really the jewel of the empire. From the slightly democratic running to the praetors and the Senate, the Roman Republic made a big statement. Before the Romans came up with the idea of a republic, Rome had a king.
The Ottoman Empire is almost directly correlated to the decline of Byzantium. The Ottomans had men stationed in nearly 100 forts and 100 castles. Doing this enabled him to maintain pressure on the Christian infidels out east. The Ottoman Empire had not had their own foothold until around 1354, when they got a hold of a peninsula roughly 100 miles southwest of Constantinople. When this was accomplished, it was recognized that the time of the Ottomans conquering Constantinople was edging closer and closer. Using their superiority, intellect and vast numbers the Ottomans attacked the weakest part of the Byzantine defense, the west walls of Constantinople. The Ottoman Empire was very strong and some had seen them as bullies.
What kind of technology in the Roman Empire affect its growth the most? I will be investigating from the start of the Roman Empire in 753 BCE to when the Western Roman Empire fell in 476 CE. This investigation will have a broad scope while investigating and include things from the Roman Legion to aqueducts and concrete. This investigation will not include technology that was not widely used to better the Roman Empire. The research question will answer my question by conducting research on how different groups of technology made the Roman Empire better based off of their potential uses and different contributions to Roman society.
The Byzantine Empire, though often forgotten among better-known empires, such as the Roman Empire, ran for nearly one thousand years, occupying the eastern half of what once was the Roman Empire. It engaged in trade, expansion, and decades of warfare. It also gave women a better status then men, valued and preserved Greek history, and eventually fell to the Ottomans.
As the Roman Empire began to fall, it was split into Eastern and Western sections. The emperor at the time, Constantine, declared that the new imperial residence, Byzantium, would become the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. After experiencing economic issues and invasions from the Huns, the Western part of the Roman Empire finally collapsed in 476. With a wealthy, strong, and prosperous capital, the eastern half of the Roman Empire survived and became known as the Byzantine Empire. This wealth and stability allowed for significant achievements to be made.
During the classical era, many great and influential empires were brought into the world. One of the most influential of its time was the Roman Empire, which was located in the Mediterranean Sea. This empire encompassed a large mass of land, which included both large chunks of straight land, and many islands. Over the period 300 B.C.E. to 500 C.E., economic causes of the formation of the Roman Empire included an expanding economy, and cultural effects of its administration included spreading a common culture.
