When starting the ropes course I think we were all a little nervous, not just about heights or different challenges, but figuring each other out. People walk around on nails for a while till they feel they know someone good enough to open up, this activity sped that process up a quite a bit. Different people take on different roles and I think this made some stand up to show their leadership and others show how they follow. This is a good way to sum up how people will act in working groups as well and gave us a further understanding of what we should expect from our teams. The ropes course was a good exercise to have fun and open up to each other. I know that I am usually quiet at first but if I am given a hands on activity I feel I can be more of myself and interact at a greater level. One of the first concepts I wanted to talk about was ‘how to communicate effectively at work’. When reading this we learned that you needed to get to the point and say your central idea, just get it out there and see what people think, it may be good or bad but you won’t know till you speak up. When working on the low coarse tight wire we were able to finally group up and say what worked and what didn’t. It was difficult when you wanted to just try it on your own, but had the rule of three point contact. So instead of trying to figure it out alone, we eventually decided to give everyone a voice and weigh our options about what to do next. I think once we got everyone on the same page we were
Communicating in Teams. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Good communication and team work is essential in all aspects of my job, and requires some basic rules, such as: Objectives within the roles and responsibility, and objectives of the job, being able to make decisions, sharing information and knowing when it is necessary and when it should be kept confidential. Also, being able to resolve conflicts is a big part or working partnerships, as not everyone is going to get along with each other and sometimes people need to just be able to listen and come up with a compromise. It is all about delivering good quality social care to the clients, whilst maintaining strong working relationships. With
Communicating effectively with our colleagues especially misunderstandings and especially work planning. Effective communication also makes healthy working relationships, and empower members to problem issues in a, and we unite manner. This will, in turn, create a more fun and less stressful work environment.
The four core competencies utilized in my group enabled a smooth outcome. My group applied communication giving each participant a moment to discuss his or her individual ideas to the group. I felt this gave each person a chance to share his or her thoughts while the rest of the group listened. This enabled an efficient
We need to be able to come out with solution with creativity. We need to be aggressive in what we have desire about. Do all we can do to research and try different methods. In the same time, be brief and be aggressive. Try to go straight to the top, to the decision maker, and you will be surprised about what you can get from the brief action.
All things considered, communication must be improved. It is my belief that if employees are informed and made to feel a part of a functioning team, we will see a great improvement in employee morale, more error-free projects will be produced, and client deadlines will be met with less overtime requirements. In order to open the lines of communication, to boost employee morale, to reduce the number of overtime hours, to eliminate client dissatisfaction, and to enhance the project quality, and to improve on performance, I recommend that the following steps be enacted. • • • • • • • The CEO will hold weekly staff meetings Department managers will conduct a weekly staff meeting An all-hands meeting will be held monthly Publish a monthly newsletter Place suggestion boxes in every department Implement a project tracking system Appoint an employee to schedule and monitor the progress of all projects
• People communicate so job the job can be done properly, by communicating this can also improve relationship and promote team work. At work I speak to my colleagues during work so the job can be done easily and efficiently. I think that speaking during working hours can improve working relationship and promote team work. I also speak to the clients during work hours so I will know if they need any help or assistance. By speaking to them I
Some points of good practice with communication are listening to the staff as they might
Throughout the readings communication was identified as a vital component for establishing and maintaining relationships. Porter-O Grady sanctioned for leaders to establish firm rules of engagement to help support a positive group dynamic (2013). While Kelly & Tazbir explained that friction and conflict were a normal part of group development and were representative of the Storming stage of group process (2014). Moreover, they explained that with assistance from the team leader the team can overcome these obstacles, strengthen inter-professional relationships, and enter into the Norming stage (Kelly & Tazbir, 2014). Here the team is able to participate in the effective exchange of communication and begin making progress toward goals. This represents progression into the Performing stage of group process (Kelly & Tazbir, 2014). When the team has met its intended target they are ready to anylze the outcomes of their work and enter the final stage of group process—Adjourning (Kelly & Tazbir,
Discuss how an individual can use effective communication techniques to overcome workplace challenges, encourage collaboration across groups, and promote effective problem solving.
Teamwork is important to complete any task and without it you have chaos. Everyone knows the saying “a team is only as strong as the weakest player,” this saying can be put to use for sports but it doesn't come into play for other industries. If doctors, pilots, food industries, and construction workers used this for everyday work they would be more efficient. Furthermore, every industry that has ever existed knows that there is always going to be something unexpected. Gawande recommends that when a team is working together and they can't seem to figure out what the problem is they should, “stop and talk through the case together”(101). When a group of workers uses this democratic way of thinking they critique each other and end up improving one another by showing them a different way of thinking. For example, many think surgeons rule the operation room and what they say goes, but in actuality they make mistakes like everyone else so this rule will actually save lives.
I felt like due to most of us not knowing each other and ever really interacting with each other, there was tension. We did not know how to start a conversation over some very intense issues that this activity bought upon us. I definitely was anxious at the beginning because I was nervous about how such a a large group was going to interact with each other. Other times that I felt some tension was when people started disagreeing on ideas. When people thought their idea was better than another persons. I felt some tension when people started using their job title as being superior to voice their opinion over
When doing so the other group members were active listener, by using their whole body verbally and nonverbal. Like facing the speaker and giving eye contact and try to avoided interruption. The group also acknowledges the thoughts of the speaker by giving constructive feed back. Due to the effectiveness of the group communication, we were able to build trust, respect and understand the issues and make decision for effective change. We illustrate this by coming together as a group one again to accomplish the goal we initially wanted to accomplish. Since the first organization that we had chosen was incorrect, so we had to make the necessary changes to accomplish our goals. The other effective feature is the purpose of the group. Kozier et al (2010) stated that the effective group purpose is when “goal, task, and outcomes are clarified. Understanding and modified so that members of the group can commit themselves to purposes through cooperation” (p.401). For instance, each individual was assign a task and knew what was to be accomplished. As group we all decided to meet at suitable day and time which was beneficial to all team members, because we could commit to the group and focus on what needed to be achieved.
For example, through my involvement in the school and university debate has boosted my confidence in their views and to communicate confidently and clearly among team members and the audience. In addition, preparation in 30 minutes before the debate and the responsibility as a captain of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) debate team has taught me a lot in terms of teamwork through discussions, dividing tasks and make decisions that take into account make a judgment all in shaping the concept and strategy of the team before the game. In addition, communication among technicians is one thing that I practice while working in Unisem (M) Berhad because it is very important that we connect tasks of technicians working in shifts before and after that either through verbal communication or a memo. In addition, my experience as a technician in at normal shifts to test new socket, test board and software provided by the customer for 3 months has much improved the way I communicate with customers of SKYWORK either in terms of verbal and documentation. Next, I also communicate well with all parts of my job as the supervisor, operator and maintenance technicians to help me in control and repair machine in my shift. In fact, my experience as a technician at night shift there are only two people per shift has educated me to divide time and
