The group I have been working with currently is the group I used in doing the self-assessment in chapter eight. I scored an eleven which is in the effective teamwork category. This group is a group of three married couple, all who are officers (pastors) of The Salvation Army. Lussier, & Achua stated in their book that all teams are groups, but not all groups are teams. (2013, p.278) Our group is definitely a team working with the common goal to run a week long bible/leadership camp. Each of us has been put in charge of different areas of this camp, such as; decorations, music, snacks, bible studies, and devotionals. Collective as a group we all live hours away from each other, one couple lives in North Platte, Cape Girardeau, and Detroit.
For this class project, I think my group worked well together on the assignments. We all saw we had responsibilities and were expected to do our own parts for each assignment we worked on. For each assignment, we would split it equally among us and used a tool called Google Docs so we were each on our own computers but working together on one file. Google Docs really made the process easier with reviewing all the information and having it all in one file. If any questions came up we had a group text to communicate when we weren’t on campus grounds for class.
In conclusion to this paper, Salvation Army is a strong standing company that focuses on giving to those in need. The company has been growing for many years and has made a strong impact on every community that it touches. The company houses officers, employees, and volunteers that spend numerous hours taking care of the ones that need help the most. The company which started with just a husband and wife is now all over the world and continues to promote a strong Christian faith. The company is doing everything they ethically and morally can to help everyone. There is always going to be an issue somewhere, no one is perfect. The company is the next thing to being our savior. Salvation Army is the one who is trying to fix the broken through
What do you think when you hear the word Salvation Army? Red kettles, donating clothes, helping the homeless?. These are all part of the Salvation Army but there is so much more to it. As one of the oldest and largest organizations in the world , the Salvation Army formed from a church in 1865 . There plan was simple, share the gospel of
Creating Effective Teams: a Guide for Members and Leaders is a book by Wheelan (2013) designed to do as the title states; guiding members and leaders to create effective teams. Wheelan (2013) begins the book by highlighting the reasons that groups are important. Wheelan (2013) states that throughout history, “Groups have played a major role in both the survival of human beings and the development of human culture” (p. 1). The majority of the book is based on 4 stages that create a group of individuals into an effective team. The first stage is called dependency and inclusion. According to Wheelan (2013), the first stage of the group is

Group and team work is described as two or more interacting individuals who share collective norms and goals and have a common identity. The size of the group is key, a large group the leader may not catch all. However, a small group becomes more bonded, allowing interaction and shared awareness.
The topic discussed this past week that will be most beneficial to my ministry as a Salvation Army officer is the “Difference between an Army and a Church.” Although, there are various similarities between the church and The Salvation Army, I also noticed that there are distinct difference. These differences make The Army unique to its ministry.
Working in a group to achieve a high quality group project can be one of people’s most difficult school experiences. Working in a group is tough because there is often someone who does not pull their own weight. “There are five stages to group development, adjourning, forming, storming, performing, and norming” (John & Wiley pg 166). Christine’s group from the Case Study the Forgotten Group Member is in between the Storming and Norming Stages. The Storming Stage “is dealing with tensions and defining group tasks,” while the Norming Stage is dealing with high emotionality and tension among the group members” (John & Wiley pg. 166). Christine and her group could have had better

Group work has been a cornerstone of the social work profession and requires a variety of facilitator skills and awareness of group processes. The SSLDTM Group Program for People with Difficulties in Social Situations (Socialwork1914, 2017) provides an excellent example of a psycho-educational group co-facilitated by two female social workers, Jane and Karen. After viewing the 6th session of this 8-week program, I began to understand how the concepts of group formation/development, interpersonal dynamics, and leadership styles contribute to successful group work outcomes.
Teamwork is built on mutual cooperation and right relationships. Teams are made up of an assortment of members who seek to work together to achieve the same objective. John Maxwell has written a book entitled The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork which I view five of them applicable for the church or spiritual team setting. Before sharing the five
When I have to work in a team, I try to reach success with others participants in assigned activities. I do not take the role of leader or follower. I consider myself just another participator, but always thinking about doing everything right and clean. I have always had in mind that teamwork are all those actions and activities that are carried out collectively. In order for there to be an excellent group work, I think is necessary is that the actions are developed collectively. This means that to carry out group work, the existence of an entertainer or coordination is not necessary. The collective performance of an action is sufficient, within the framework of mutual interaction.
This chapter reviewed many different aspects of group work such as different processes and skills required to run several different groups. The groups discussed were open-ended group, groups hosted in residential settings, single-session groups, and large activity groups.

The things I will have done differently in the group was to use my time wisely. I believe because we were on a time frame, I tended to rush things just to say okay where done. Also, more support and trust at a point of time I was kind of second guessing another idea. I feel that you have to have trust in your group member to make it effective.
