History has taught us many things about leadership. Good Leadership can be the difference between winning a war and losing a war. Even in everyday life, a good leader is capable of achieving much greater things than a normal person. But leadership is a powerful tool that can be used both for the good of mankind and its downfall.

Why do we hear so much about the bad leaders, but so little about the good ones? That’s because none of our leaders are perfect, but what makes a good leader? A good leader is someone who is honest, decisive under pressure, and can give confidence in times of distress. Many leaders in our world, or in fictional worlds, show that these qualities prove most important.

What makes a leader a good leader? It is based on how much he does for his people? Or is it based on how much he accomplishes during his reign? There is no one definite answer for this question. A “good” leader can be determined by several different standards. Although their approaches were frowned upon by many, Hannibal Barca, Caligula, and Genghis Khan can all be viewed as “good” leaders. These leaders differ in morals, military tactics, and ruling strategies but, they all managed to accomplish the statues of “The Great” during their time of rule.

There are many traits that make a good leader including loyalty, protection, and wisdom. A good leader is someone who is loyal to a group of people and is someone who is able to protect every each one of them. In a famous story called The Odyssey written by Homer, Odysseus is forced to become the leader of a group of people that he will have to sail with back home to Ithaca. Odysseus is a great leader because he is able to lead, protect, and speak with wisdom to his crew whenever they fall into another one of Poseidon's traps. Today sometimes we may not see someone as a good leader, but if we were able to connect the definition of a good leader to every time that person was a good leader, we would be able to judge that person differently.

I believe that to be a good leader doesn’t necessarily define as someone who sets a goal and directs people to achieve it, but as someone who may have to adapt to change based off their surroundings and situations. A leader should be someone who is able to guide with not only direction but also logic, understanding, and an open mind. Oskar Schindler proved with continued leadership that even the most dismal situations may be able to change your values and based off those values change your actions and the direction in which you choose to lead and how you influence.

My mother always told me, ‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going.’ When times get rough it is important to not waste time sitting in self-pity, instead you need to take charge and change things for the better. I believe that being a good leader does not wait around just hoping, instead they make things happen. There are many elements that I believe make a good leader, but just being genuine and passionate towards a cause is what I believe is most important.

Good Leaders play an important role in our society, and it is a quality than needs to be developed thorough an entire life. There are many different leadership styles, as well as there are many good leader examples. A successful leader knows exactly how to effectively manage the group , in order to work towards the realization of a common goal.

Unlike management, leadership cannot be taught, although it may be learned and enhanced through coaching or mentoring” (Leadership).

An effective leader is one who inspires many to not only accept change but to cause change themselves, furthermore, though leaders can be effective it doesn’t always mean they are responsible with their power.

All of us have a natural leadership style within us. However, the way we go about displaying this natural leadership defines whether we are a good leader or not. A good leader is someone who helps teach, respect, and inspire the lives of individuals around them. Also, a good leader is someone who is not afraid to step up and take action when it is needed to be. As a result of stepping up and taking action, they are radiating the natural confidence and power that a good and strong leader should contain. In all, a good leader is someone who listens and cares about the lives of the individuals that surround them, and every action and decision they make is for the benefit of the greater good.
