From my personal observations I have found that educators that specializes in kindergarten through 12th (k-12th) grade commonly has plenty of health issues after their teaching of about twenty to thirty years and onset of retirement. They are required daily to stand on their feet for an extensive period of time teaching and monitoring their students, this eventually wears the body out and results in massive health problems such as knee and ankle tears, varicose veins, and back aches. Most health issues tend to be incurable and educators has to cope with their pain for the rest of their lives. Something I have noticed from my personal relationship with family members who are teachers is the constant standing is a tear on their body and they will have to eventually prepare for the long days by purchasing expensive garments to attend work and prohibit future damages to their own self. In health care benefits for k-12th educationers the first modification that the teachers should have is a complimentary pair of shoes for their job. Apart of a teachers job is to stand on their feet for an extensive period of time which eventually causes their legs and feet to counteract with health issues such as varicose veins and ankle tears. He claims that stress is apparent in every student’s life; however some have more and this stress has a direct connection on the child’s success both in school and out. Stress can be caused by many things, such as economic, family, or even social problems. The stress prevents a student from staying focused in school because they are distracted by other problems. Since they are not able to focus, they do not perform well at school, leading to bad grades, which leads to more stress. This cycle continues and the student is unable to learn as the workload gets more complicated.

Today, there seems to be a push to change the policy of teacher tenure. “Roughly 2.3 million public school teachers in the United States have tenure—a perk reserved for the noblest of professions (professors and judges also enjoy such rights).” (Stephey) Tenure refers to a policy which gives teachers a permanent contract that effectively ensuring them a guarantee of employment for life. Stephey continues to state, “Though tenure doesn’t guarantee lifetime employment, it does make firing teachers a difficult and costly process, one that involves the union, the school board, the principal, the judicial system and thousands of dollars in legal fees.”
Teachers work during the school year just as much as some people do year round. They more than likely spend their free time grading papers and helping struggling students by interacting with them one-on-one. Most teachers in South Dakota do have a second job, and they still struggle to make ends meet sometimes. Think about how many good dedicated teachers have just walked away from the profession just because they couldn’t afford to remain teaching. The Teachers Retirement System of Texas (TRS) is Texas’ general pensions fund for active and retired public teachers. Currently, the TRS-Care plan, which insures health care for state retired teachers, is facing a $768 billion dollar shortfall. For the last few years TRS-Care has been struggling to remain sound as factors such as soaring health care prices, longer life spans, and more teachers retiring have put a strain to the system. More than 233,000 public retired teachers and their dependents participate in the plans within TRS-Care. The $768 million shortfall losing the funds that help pay for lifesaving health care procedures and drugs will cause the retirees and dependents put severe hardship to the retiree and dependents. Teacher’s general gross salary is already close to the poverty line and once they retire their socioeconomic situation does not change for the better, instead they cling to the funds they paid to when they were active for their pension and healthcare.
It is not like teachers do not have other things to worry about. Teachers have bills just like every other American in this country. Lets also think about wither or not these teachers have kids. If the teachers do have kids, they probably have to worry about their school supplies to. Maybe their kids play sports or part of other after school activities; I am willing to bet that participating in those activities cost money to. I also sure they do not get to work for free. There cars or trucks cost money, and the gas they use to drive them cost money also. Let us just set aside all the worldly things and get back to just the teaching aspects of it all. They spend whole lot of money on supplies. Why can we not give teachers a raise? They spend too much money on supplies that should be given to them. The low pay for our educators is causing many negative effects. New York Times shows that the low income is causing sixty-two percent of teachers to have a second job outside of their teaching jobs. Just to have enough money to support their families and make ends meet.
