Within the film, Edward Scissorhands, we are shown many different characters, stories, and people. There are many differences shown between Edward Scissorhands and the townspeople, this is easily viewed through the costumes they are wearing. Edward’s costume consists of a black leather vest with a variety of different dark belts around his waist, neck and on his arms, his costume also consists of dark leather pants, which also has a variety of dark belts around his legs. This is also shown in Edward’s pale and scarred face, and in his black hair. Edwards costume relates to the dark, gothic world. The residents of the town Suburbia wear costumes that consist of pastel colours and tacky clothing. The difference between the costumes of Edward and the residents also connects us to what the two world themes are, one that is dark, bland, and gothic and one that is colourful and tacky. This shows the two different worlds, one that is gothic and one that is simple, colourful, and regular.
